MY BUDDIES & I ACTUALLY WON THE "ALL ARMY ENTERTAINMENT" CONTEST, AT THE PRESIDO IN SAN FRANCISCO, IN 1959...."ONE MEATBALL"......JACK ENGLISH..ACTOR / SINGER...WEST HOLLYWOOD
when we kids would fight over the last meatball on the platter at dinner--Dad would break out with that phrase. We had no idea what it was about--he thought it was funny. YEARS later I was waiting on an older gent and he asked for a meatball as a side, and automatically I broke out with that phrase--He jaw dropped and said "you're too young to know that song!".
Bravo! I remember this song from long ago, but am hearing this version for the first time.

Thanks for uploading this wonderful flash from my youth: hearing my mother sing this while she cooked. . .
I wish I could have met Lauritz - what a sense of fun! :)
Dean Martin could have sung this song with Mario Lanza.
Ah, but Lauritz Melchior was one of the greatest tenors of the 20th Century. And Big was...well Bing!
