Why not REDUCE prices for the fans instead of paying rich people more money? Simple, but that would take etics and compassion.

For you to say..."A lot of money for US, but not so much for them..." IS the freaking point!!! The one's chosen to play are the sponsored players, the ones who are already millionaires. It's not even a sport anymore it's a money grab for the top few. I would understand that the winning team gets X amount and the losing team splits Y amount. Which would be compensation, but based on results and not showing up. I'm sure the PGA covers room and board. This is insane...and wonder why some are turned away. The PGA is becoming a joke. After all the talk about the LIV guys and then make these greedy moves...as tickets are $5,000. You grow the game by increasing FAN BASE, not by increasing purses! SHAME

Event ticket costs are getting out of hand, these players should play for the honor and pride of participating in the event. Ticket prices are increasing at a higher rate than salaries. The attendance is turning into an elitist event only. How do families afford the tickets, parking, food, and drink, plus something of remembrance of the event, it's just crazy to me. These players some not all make a lot of money, they get most things for free with their sponsorships, and they are treated more highly than the average person. Celebrities just get it all, and I understand it's a capitalist system we live in, but the average people pays for everything for others to live better than most of us.

Actually, quit watching the sport that I watched everyday in some way. The average person can’t even play the courses that the PGA or DP Tour play. The cost and access is not available. $$$$$ ruins sport! Oh and Cantlay is the poster boy for what is wrong with pro golf, slow play, shit attitude, a complete narcissist!

How about they get paid if they win…that would make it more interesting, and the US might actually win more Cups

Why should the PGA cash in on Ryder cup without paying the players? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Of course they should get paid for it

You are exactly right. It’s B.S. 100 million in media rights + ticket sales + clothing/merch. If it was truly an exhibition and no one was making a profit, then I get it… but it sounds like everyone else is making a profit EXCEPT the players... Even the PGA gets their cut. A brand deal/sponsorship has nothing to do w the Ryder cup.

I don't understand why players getting paid is looked so down upon. People across all professions, countries, and pay scales want to get paid for their services. How much money a player makes prior to the Ryder Cup, should not have any influence on how much they make for the "biggest event in golf". Which has no problem charging $$$ (insane) to attendees to see a few holes of golf being played. Or charging advertisers / TV contracts $$$ to be part of the event.

I don't have a problem with it. After taxes which will be 40%, they will be able to cover costs of caddies, travel for them and their families etc. I am not ok with the price of tickets for almost any sports event. They have made it almost impossible for a guy to go himself, let alone bring his kids or family. Tickets are all geared for corporate now and then half of the tickets don't get used. So much for growing the game...

All I've heard from certain US golfers and commentators since LIV is how greedy the guys were who moved over. Now it's all about money in the Ryder Cup!
Not for me to rip bread from the starving mouths of US multi millionaires, but this is madness.

Isn't the money earned from the Ryder Cup used by the PGA of America for operating expenses for the next 2 years?

As Golf continues on the road to greed and getting into bed with murderers for the money the future of the sport goes into a terrible situation led by the obvious costs associated with everything : Equipment, Subscriptions, Green Fees , l personally hope that golf for clubs continues but that the extortionate costs backfires to give a wake up call to all involved in this greed malaise.

Prices for one day at the 2025 Ryder Cup can be close to $5,000. This is why players want to get paid.

this is bull !! historically, they played/represented/competed for the glory of their respective countries & the peoples in their parts of the world/continents. it's bigger than themselves as individuals. tiger's reasoning that the usa's ryder cup money would be used to support the foundations of their is indeed choices is somewhat besides the point.

Shouldn't some things mean more than money? If you watch ryder cups the emotions engendered by it are because of team bonding or national pride, they get given charitable donations too, it shows a benevolent and humanitarian side to these role models..if it becomes playing for money that takes a different complexion and tells our next generation that money is more important than community, charity and self worth...

  • @jokerman-pl4dp

Just pay the players, they have earned it. Most players that weren't selected would say they would play for free. Let Bryson DeChambeau play, he's arguable better then most players on the team.

I think the players should pay for the privilege of being on the team, instead of the other way around. It's too bad the players are so greedy.

You two are talking about 1997 as players being paid.
Let's go back to 1927 when Samuel Ryder came up with the idea of USA playing GB &I against each other for nothing.
The whole ethos was its for nothing but honour.
The Concession would never have been if playing for money. That's why Jack Nicklaus is thought of as the ultimate sportsman for conceding Tony Jacklins putt.
'More want more and greedy want the lot'
