Comet is my favorite antenna and the best hands down... Still rocking my 2x4SR nmo antenna... On a lip mount.. been using mine for about 8 and 1/2 years now and it's still kicking a little faded around the isolators but I think this thing will probably last me another 8 years at minimum... I have V2000A for 6/2/440 on my roof. Have worked some states on 6M with this, Vancouver from Berkeley California on Ft8. Fan of both Comet and Diamond, to me they're both good, about same level of quality.
comet has some great mounts and antennas. i got the trunk lip mount 3/8 for my hustlers used them on my rental while in 9k2 and Yi9 land even had the 3 antenna mounted on that mount. still have the mount
I like Comet Products! I have the Manual 300W AT Tuner CAT-300 for many years now. And a multiband vertical Antenna CHA250B which doing a fine fine job. SW-Germany is waving a hand! 73's de Your Friend Uncle Guenter
I have one of those mounts and the barrel nut does NOT come off like that. it will unscrew and go down the coax but will not come off the other side to come completely off, and it won't fit through the hole in my firewall. that's the whole reason why I bought it, but does not work as advertised...
Nice to see what Comment has to offer. I'm interested in the no drill mounts. Maybe let the sales guy talk a bit more and you not interrupt so much, just a thought.
I like Comet mounts but have been using Diamond antennas on them. I am really liking the black anodized antennas like the Diamond NR-770HB that handles 200 watts so I can run my 160watt brick amp.
So before I make this purchase of buying the Comet CA-2X4SRNMO antenna I have a question. I was informed that antennas had to be a certain length to obtain certain frequencies. I was told that 1/2 waves antennas should be between 41.5" - 44" in order to obtain frequencies of 144 MHz to 148 MHz. My plan was to purchase the Comet CA-2X4SRNMO antenna however that antenna is only 40". Does this mean this antenna will not be able to obtain 144 MHz to 148 MHz frequencies?
ignore the length of antennas when it comes to VHF and UHF antennas for your vehicle. Manufacturers use coils on these antennas to reduce the size for mobile applications. The length becomes important when you decide to build your own antenna for a given frequency on HF or VHF. Take the Compactenna Scan-3 for example. It is 9 inches, and covers 144, 220, 440, 453, 800 and 900mhz. The inventer uses different coils and things inside to make it work like a longer antenna, but it has a very small form factor. So any comet or Diamond antenna that is designed for VHF and UHF, it doesn't matter the length, only matters to you how long it actually is on your vehicle. Now as far as wavelengths, a half wave has more gain than a quarter wave.... But it will be longer... I hope this makes sense
@@HamRadioConcepts Thank you. It does help and I now have a clear understanding of how antennas work in terms of its length and operation. I am about to purchase the Comet CP-5M (RS730 Lip Mount). With this mount I will need an antenna. I was going to purchase the Comet CA-2X4SRNMO antenna. I think that is a pretty good antenna but do you know of any other shorter mobile antennas specifically that are extremely good with range? is the Diamond SRH770S 2m 70cm Antenna a better and longer range antenna that the Comet CA-2X4SRNMO antenna?
I just got a president Lincoln 2. How would I go About getting 11 meter? Not sure if there is anyone here In Portland Oregon who could do it. Any suggestions? Thank you
I don't charge anything and I got nothing for this. But if you have an idea for a commercial I'm willing to come to terms for a commercial, I could use the extra money
do you have any mounts that can fit on a Highlander 2017? I bought a mount back in 2017 but it would not fit it was to tight I tried the hood and the lift back
@@VE9ASN you run LMR 400 in vehicle, my LMR 195 didn't make it week before it broke. RG-400 is the FAA standard replacement for RG-58. More power, more heat resistant, less likely to break from vibrations, doubling shielded, not as lossing, Tram 1159-WB is taller than your standard 5/8 wave antenna, it's a 6/8 wave no ground plane necessary and it dips twice once in the middle of the ham band and again in the "public safety" part of the band, looks like a W. I am one of those that are new to Ham. This video was great. I just ordered a Comet dual band antenna.
3:38 I also just now learned that's why some of my coax does that...
I have 4 SSB 5 Antennas. I have been using these since 1993! 73, Bob
My Comet antenna arrives today along with an Icom radio. Going to try several antennas and use the RigExpert AA-55 to test them.

I have the CHA-250b vertical in the back of my house. It works great.
You like it? It's definitely a possibility in my future lol. Especially for my gf with a totally different yard size
I bought one sbb7 for my icom 2730a
New guy here. Thanks for the great review! I'll be checking these dudes out very soon.
Some interesting items. Definitely worth a look. Thanks.

Side note: the guy sounds like Ed Bassmaster
can i convert these to base station antenna?do i need to add counterpoise or grounding cable to it and connect to earth?
Very instructive video. Thanks for creating it.
I have had their ducks and worked fine. Had a tri-band HF mobile antenna and it was not the best.

groovy
Anyone tried these mounts on a escalade on the back latch ? seems like its plastic up there.

Not sure
Why is their a "Last man standing" sign above his head?
Maybe their antenna was used for the show?
My 2 meter / 70 cm vertical Comet is strong in my backyard @ 40 feet.

@Bovine Excrement the lmr 400 has been in my vehicle for 4 years, and the 5/8 wave comet is 4 inches taller than the 6/8 wave tram.
Comet has clearly just copied all of the innovations from Diamond antenna
