It really is a stretch for anyone to find even a most minor fault in Lucy's performances. If there is such a thing as perfection, Lucy is as close to it as one can get. She seeems to handle anything with great aplomb , as though she had sung some of these songs years before in an other era; and has What the Dutch would say: 'An old soul'.
This is not original with Whitney. It was originally written and sung by Dolly Parton as a loving tribute to her employer/mentor/friend Porter Wagoner when she decided to "go solo" in her career after being with him for about five years on "The Porter Wagoner Show," (1960-1981), a country music variety show my Dad and I used to watch together. Dolly gave permission to Whitney to cover this song, a smart move which made her many millions of dollars in royalties in the long run. I prefer Dolly's version because she sings it with the same heartfelt emotions with which she wrote it (knowing how badly Porter was hurt by her leaving the show). Whitney's is delivered emotionally too, but with more technicality and "vocal mechanics" which leaves it somewhat lacking for my personal taste. I think Lucy Thomas captures, in great essence and ethereal deliverance, the same emotional flavor which Dolly gave to it. This beautiful, sweet young lady is phenomenal!
This is awesome as always with Lucy. May be it is time to try some original songs from Rosie. The last one released : Broken dreams Also " Starlight" , " Suddenly" and" Gentle breeze" are stunning. The Rosie musical is based on the life of Rosie Boote, young, poor Irish girl , marrying a powerfull English Lord against the will of the King and the English nobility. She passed away in 1957 , after being witness of 3 English kings/ Queens coronation.🥰👍🤗 I wish the musical will be a huge success. Lucy put all she has on it. It can make her worldwide famous in a blink of an eye🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️
Thinking about the cover being better than the original, I would say there is another side to the argument. The original, or in this case original cover so inspired a generation of singers that they wanted to do their best too. The ultimate accolade must then be that your tribute was so good it was better. Nothing wrong with progress - the original will still have the emotional ties l, but to hear such talent taking over is incredible.

She can not hold notes long enough for a song like this. This video is a couple of years old. She should try it again. Someone who can hold the notes long enough, check out kpop veteran Ailee singing this same song live. She sang it once in the rain. Anyway, Lucy Thomas is fantastic.
