Albo... I ran into the issue with my 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS Coupe that I turboed and modified for rally-crossing. I "LOVE" this car. However, it's already over 20+ years old and it's showing its age. A couple years back, I got an Audi S4. I "liked" the car but I didn't "LOVE" it. Fortunately, I sold my car to my parents for $1 with the promise to buy it back after a couple of years with the Audi (the short story is my Japanese wife, wouldn't let me own two cars). In the end, I traded the S4 in for my wife's current car and bought the Subaru back from my parents. That was the best thing that I ever did and I still drive and enjoy my Subaru today. What I'm getting at, is keep your passion for the blood, sweat, and tears you've put into the S2000. Save up and get the GT4 later and then after you have time with both, then make a decision.

As an owner and track driver of a 981 GT4, I think you'd really enjoy the character of the car and the flat six sound. Just be aware of the operating costs. OEM tires are ~$2k for a set, OEM iron rotors ~$2k set, etc. On the topic of building the car, there is a lot you can still build with a GT4, but again it's going to be expensive. Also, doing top-end work on a mid-engine car can be a pain, so be aware of that as well.

I can understand your dilemma. Have my FD2 for 11 years. As prices of NSX goes out of reach I bought a Porsche 911 997 instead. I count myself hardcore JDM but the 997 is such a fantastic car on a different level. Especially in my case where I travel long distances often. Now the 997 has pretty much taken over those duties. And truth be told taken over the weekend fun driving too. Still I have such an attachment to the FD2 so I’ll keep it forever. If you can, keep the S2000. Otherwise you wouldn’t go wrong if you swapped it for the 718. It’s a more complete car that still is super fun and has incredible handling dynamics. The Cayman GT4 to me is the true successor to the NA1/2 NSX. If I had to choose today between the 997 and FD2 I’m afraid the choice would be 997. Being a Porsche you can keep it too. PDK or manual doesn’t matter. Having used the PDK I say it’s a different fun but still fun. And I beg to differ- my experience of the 997 is that maintenance costs are surprisingly low.
If you swapped will you miss the S2000? Definitely! Flat 6 howl or not you will sorely miss the VTEC scream. But be assured you’re keeping the better car

My opinions are conflicted on this, because I live for the "don't be too greedy" mindset, because you'll eventually become bored of the GT4, and go for something else, so there's not really much of a point, but at the same time, why would you ever stay in one place when you can go anywhere you want, I'll say just buy it if you feel like it, without looking back, and afterwards, if you get bored of the GT4, you can always get something else, something new to experience, instead of being stuck in one place, and you'll give the opportunity to somebody else to enjoy the car as well

edit: I just watched more of the video and personally, I wouldn't sell both cars to get the GT4. If it were just the S2K, maybe, but the utility of the Subie is something you'd miss. I used to be gung-ho two door car only! but after I got my WRX hatch I don't think I could go back. It's too useful. I've driven my friend's Cayman GTS, which is similar to the GT4 and it was great, but it will be much more expensive for not a huge difference in driving feel (IMO) I'd keep the S2K personally.. the value of those will just keep going up as well.

I think three cars maybe four. One car JDM. Second car dream car. Third car track car. And if you can swing it. Fourth car family hauler

A lot of people would say that you'll regret this and that. Of course you will. I regret selling many of my previous cars. But unless you have a ton of money spare, the only way to progress is by selling and upgrading.
If you can afford to run it, then go for it...while S2k prices are high. With that in mind, just think of what the future upgrade could be 😁

Keep the s2k. Don't feel pressured by your TH-cam content either. Your content has transcended your rides. Your cars just compliment your channel which is the best thing you can do. Lots of others base their content on their cars. So, keep it. Enjoy it. In time you'll get something else :)

THE ANSWER IS NO! Have you any idea what the S2K is worth in Australia right now? The average price for a high- mileage model is AU $50k. And there are only 11 available for sale. I wish I bought one pre-pandemic. Regret that I just didn't go for it now. They are already a classic.

Is this even a question ? If you can afford one it is a no brainer that a Porsche is the way to go. Love S2000's but a 718 spyder is leagues above.

I mean I think that if you get the gt4 and still end up really missing the s2k, you could sell it and get another s2k.
Yes you would be back at square one with it, and would lose out on money, but at least you'll know for sure how much the s2k means to you and if you want it to stick with you for a long time.
Also I'd say don't worry about it not being JDM. You're still gonna be documenting the car culture in Japan so its not like we're gonna be fully deprived of JDM content.

Under other circumstances I'd buy gt4, however if you already see selling it in few years, I think you made a good decision :) (But I'd personally sell s2k and bought 996 and stick to it forever :P)

If your S2K was stock, I would have said keep it, because it could potentially be an investment that would appreciate. If you really want a Boxter/Cayman Spyder, you should do it. You will be able to pick up a non-stock S2K again. I mean you basically said it yourself when you sat in the 718. But your S2K is YOURS, so there is a sentimental attachment to it.

In my country s2k is worth as much as the 718 spyder, and 718 value will just depreciate over the years whereas s2k will keep increasing, so definitely keep the s2k
