    From Wikipedia:
    Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States, and is one of the principal communities of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages.
    Columbia began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious and class segregation.
    Columbia proper consists only of that territory governed by the Columbia Association, but larger areas are included under its name by the U.S. Postal Service and the Census Bureau. These include several other communities which predate Columbia, including Simpsonville, Atholton, and in the case of the census, part of Clarksville. The census-designated place had a population of 104,681 at the 2020 United States Census. It is the second most populous community in Maryland after Baltimore.

    Columbi Md. is one of the safest small cities in Maryland. It is located between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC.
    Love this place.

      It's the second most populous city in Maryland, unless you consider every city in MD to be small (pretty true)

    Cool ... as a Columbia resident it's kinda cool to see my town highlighted on TH-cam. Your title is kinda misleading, though. You start off cruising around east Columbia, Owen Brown Village, and don't get to the actual "downtown" (Town Center) till you cross US 29 @ 12:30 ... halfway through the video. Then @ 19:25 you leave Town Center and spend the rest of the video cruising through Wilde Lake Village. Like I said, cool video but the title could use a little tweaking. And for folks watching this video who aren't familiar with Columbia ... Owen Brown, Town Center, and Wilde Lake are 3 of the 9 "villages" that make up Columbia.

    My Mom & I lived in Columbia from early '69 to May of '73, we were among the first 3,000 residents. I've been back a couple of times over the years and really didn't recognise anything on your drive on the east side of 29 but DID on the west side. We lived in Bryant Gardens, Partridge Courts and Fenland Field. We watched the original Wilde Lake middle and High Schools AND the mall built. I always remember the cool old clock in the mall but understand it was removed years ago now. Great memories on your drive!

    I absolutely LOVE Columbia❣️❤🥰 I’m glad to see Mr. Rouse’s vision of downtown Columbia becoming a small city, yet keeping and protecting CA land.

    I grew up in Columbia. Went to OMHS etc.
    It’s changed so so much. Like a different world.
    Even though allot of streets etc are still there is so green that time of year.
    I don’t know how I would do in MD anymore. The politics and nonsense have gotten way out of control.

      Politics and nonsense are everywhere in the US. I moved abroad 5 yrs ago. No 24/7 politics dominating the TV, no guns and what a difference to see how the rest of the world lives. With that being said if I did move back for family reasons I'd move to Columbia MD hands down. I've lived all over the US. North, South, Midwest and West. Columbia would be it.

    A more suitable title: "Suburbs of Columbia, Maryland"!

    • @IM-qy7mf
      @IM-qy7mf ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I kept wonder if I just had the wrong understanding of what qualifies as "downtown" - all I see in this video are residential areas and long stretches of tree-studded roads.
      Side note: much of this video looks like Reston. Wow

    • @ssir5927
      @ssir5927 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IM-qy7mf Reston is basically a whiter Columbia. Both were designed at about the same time implementing the same ideas by rich white men, with the notable absence of the focus on racial inclusion in the case of Reston. Both are equally rich but Columbia is far more dominant in it's wider region commercially. It has become the second largest "city" in Maryland.

    • @ssir5927
      @ssir5927 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was the Downtown of Columbia...
      There are houses and buildings behind every single tree that lines the roads. There absolutely are never houses or businesses directly on main roads. It is a design feature.
