Abandoned Anthracite EP1 || The King

The Bucyrus Erie 1250-w, also known as “The Anthracite King” or “The King”, for short, is a walking dragline excavator with a bucket size of 33/45 cubic yards. It is currently sitting abandoned in the middle-eastern anthracite field. It was the first big dragline to be used in the Pennsylvania coal fields starting in 1959 and idled around 2004.

Abandoned Anthracite is a fun new series I am beginning to document old, abandoned mining relics in the state of Pennsylvania. As a resident living in the heart of PA coal country, I look forward to sharing some cool mining related stuff here on my channel through the lens of a GoPro camera mounted on an “FPV” drone.

There's one of these just sitting on the side of the road not far from where I live. It too has a fence around it. From the info I got, it's been sitting there since the mid 1990's. It's called The He-Man II.

Not sure how the inside looks but it is behind a locked fence and pretty sure there are cameras around it. There are two operating draglines of similar size a couple hundred yards to the east.

I OPERATED A 1250W ( MASTER MINER ) IN THE FLORIDA PHOSPHATE MINES , IT HAD CABS ON BOTH SIDES SO THE OPERATOR COULD RUN IT FROM EITHER SIDE , IT WAS ONE OF THE SMALLER MACHINES I OPERATED IN MY OVER 20 YRS. OPERATING !
