Hey Richard, watching now and wanted to add a bit of context to a story you highlighted! Being from a family that loves football and is Jewish, I dove deep on the Jewish prayer/kosher food report from TJP and its pretty much all false or intentionally misleading. A Rabbi was put in charge and was allowed free reign with the help of the Qatari government to put into place all the needs he felt had to be met for practicing, religious Jews. When the story referenced "securing" places for worship it was in reference to locating zones IN or directly AROUND the stadiums that weren't already in use. Not meaning secure from harassment. Services were also facilitated in churches and mosques. As for food, the Rabbi talked a lot about the cost of importing kosher meats when considered with the amount of practicing Jews going into the country to attend. In the end they waited till the event was underway, gauged the total number and ordered accordingly.
Agreed. I was surprised by how many people watched it no questions asked. Before the world cup it seemed like everyone agreed about ignoring it and then... Idk. Maybe I live in a bubble or imagined that 🤷🏼♂️
@@ptg_st3v3oh62 welp i didnt, but then football started to look too interesting to not look at it. I think there should be line, between watching for purely football and critizicing even after it ends, people responsible for things that happend there, qatar and fifa.
For some it might not seem much but the work you do by making these videos summarizing the bullshit going on around these public events is massive and so so important. Thank you
The Brazilian 24 thing is ABSOLUTELY real. "Macho" conservatives fixated on not being gay will avoid the number like the plague. I mean conservatives are absurdly cringeworthy everywhere in the world (alright, alright, conservatives, leftists are also super cringe don't come at me) and Brazil is the country that elected fucking Jair Bolsonaro a few years ago. That being said, Brazil is a huge country, there are at least a dozen different cultures that stack together to form the "brazilian culture" as we know it, and the "gay number" comes from Jogo do Bicho which is exported from mostly Rio de Janeiro, the cultural dominant region from Brazil (it's our Holywood). So I can kind of understand brazilians from less populated regions not experiencing the "gay number" the same way South West Brazil does. TL;DR: It's a thing everyone knows about but it's essentially only taken seriously by weird/old/homophobic men. Also, if you are a woman coming to Brazil and want to avoid creepy guys on the bus/planes/movies/whatever, pick chair 23, you will at the very least guarantee you aren't sitting next to a Bolsonaro supporter.
As a German, the saga around the "one Love" armband was so fucking cringe. Like either don't go in the first place/at least wear it or do it like the FA etc. and just kind off ignore the whole debate after the FIFA said "You wear it, you get a yellow." It was pretty obvious that the team got massively distracted by the debate, which meant that anything other than a miracle (our team has the talent but sadly it's all focused on like 4-5 positions and a lot of the other ones are subpar because of that) was never gonna do anything anyways. So it was a lose-lose-lose situation from the start anyways. Would've been such an opportunity to focus on the next EC and send a strong signal towards FIFA at the same time, but no. Now the trust in Flick is completely ruined and the DFB looks like an even bigger batch of clowns. But hey, at least Bierhoff is finally gone.
As a dane I agree And as a dane I had hoped they would give it to Eriksen, just to see Infantino having to explain how they penalized a man who nearly died on the pitch. And why the bleeding donkey balls did they ask FIFA before? They would have known that they would get a no, best would have been to just do it in the first match, once, done and be over with it
To be fair, the DFB did mention that they would have gone through with wearing the armband if the only punishment was a yellow card. The FIFA deliberately kept the penalty vague as a scare tactic, which unfortunately worked. But ultimately I agree with you, they just shouldn't have gone to Qatar in the first place or just worn it anyways, which would have probably led the other teams to do the same, and I highly doubt that FIFA would just penalize multiple top teams in ways that would prevent them from making a deeper tournament run.
@@littlet6131 the problem I have was with the whole shit they tried to pull afterwards. Like if you are spineless, at least don’t try to weasel out after.
The attempted pronounciation of Ochocinco had me chuffed to bits. He changed his name from Chad Johnson to Chad Ochocinco in reference to his jersey number being 85 for the Cincinnati Bengals. I think he has some hispanic heritage so he went with the Spanish single digit's spelling. Also because naming yourself "Eight-Five" is a bit on the nose in an English speaking country.
I hated how everyone made a stand in the first day or so then happily 'forgot' the issues associated with that country and the corruption that allowed it to become the host in the first place.
We in the West demonize and judge all Russians when they don't risk their safety and lives to condemn or protest the actions of a dictator leading their country. Meanwhile we back out of making a small gesture to support human rights under a threat of a yellow card in football😂
You can say that the soccer (hello Brits, give me your salt) during the 2022 World Cup was good. You can also say that Qatar should never have gotten the WC and that they're a backwards nation rife with corruption. These are not mutually exclusive things. People's inability to think in 3 dimensions is infuriating.
Hey Rich, if you wanna have a chuckle, take a look at Serbias coverage of the croatian fan, miss Knoll, the conspiricy theories that their national TV aired are amazing in how ridicilous they are
Didn't even know that crazy shit was even happening in Iran. Thanks for doing what you do rich when you stop it's gonna feel like I got one eye closed, much love.
As an Argentinian, about the paid actors stuff. We've seen a lot of news relating Bangladesh citizens as massive Argentina fans, they had a whole section in the stadium, and there are dozens of videos of them Bangladesh fans cheering for the team. I wouldn't be surprised if more eastern people, whose teams are mostly dogshit to be completely honest, would find a team to cheer for whenever their national team doesn't play. It's like being a fan of a local shit team but liking Chelsea on the premier league.
Oh I can certainly believe that the fans are very much real. Here in kerala there are banners and billboards and huge cutouts of Messi and neymar. The state is absolutely crazy about Argentina and Brazil when it comes to football and for people to say they are paid fans is really shitty considering how dedicated they are. Like they know insane amounts about the teams and players it's kinda insane.

What annoys me the most about the world cup is the fact that so many said "respect their cultural" and things along those lines when it came to the LGBTQIA issues. Oppression of any sort should never be respected and people who kept saying this and saying they aren't oppressed make me sick. As someone who went out with a qatari who is gay and has to constantly hide the fact he is to make sure he isn't imprisoned/ outcast entirely or stoned to death to say people like him aren't oppressed and it's 'tHeiR culTUrE' make me sick and are frankly deluded.
Croatian fans are 100% legitimate and they are singing a patriotic song written by a bunch of famous musicians during the war against Serbia. Nothing fascistic or anything leading to that, it's actually quite a beautiful song called 'Moja domovina'.
