I've always thought this was one of the smartest scenes to ever be included in a film. I'm curious if this thing actually happened, but it really doesn't matter, because it encapsulates SO MUCH that was true about Frida, Diego, and their social/political/academic circle. As for the dance itself, it is so perfect only the most prude, puritan, religious nutjob could have beef with it. It's basically as sexy as you think it is, whether merely graceful and sensuous, like 2 swans in courtship, or smoking hot, like the opening scene of lesbian "adult film" (I think the 'p' word would get this comment deleted LOL).
Above all, it's unforgettable.

Two great women
For someone whose character- Frida- was supposed to have spent most of her life in a considerable amount of physical pain (as she admitted in the film), she sure looks to be moving quite easily and pain free in this scene. Her portrayal was fine, but overall too much of a broad, Hollywood performance.
She just chugged half a bottle of some pretty pure white alcohol; pretty sure she would be feeling no pain. Plus, Frida was a fighter and she didn't let her pain, or anything else, slow her down until she was older. And it is a movie so there is artistic license to enhance the viewer's experience. But you go right ahead and find fault instead of simply enjoying the artistry because it's so much more self-satisfying to be a critic.
