    Just come back from testing one. I totally agree with your excellent review, this bike is marvellous. Being in the market for a tourer/daily I have tested the 1200Gs, the 800Gs and the XR. This one I approached with reservation due to some reviews citing it as top heavy. Nonsense...
    It feels light, chuckable and my 6ft frame fits in like a glove.
    Niggles are throttle by wire which needs some getting used to (2 days should do it) and the screen is somewhat low for me, I had some annoying wind hit my face (with flipup open mind you) even with the screen on high and seat in low. A higher screen should take care of that.
    Selling point for me was the front suspension, which when braking hard gives very little way keeping the bike balanced and the brakes tactile. Coming from a Ducati Monster with minimal dive and instant response in such conditions I appreciated the extra feel and response it gives.
    For the price of a used 2009-10 1200Gs you get a spanking new 2 year warranted Trumpet. And you stand out from the Gs crowd too.
    Now what was it someone said about the pillion footpeg mounts? I you fall hard enough to bend them and the frame, the mounts should be the least of your worries. End of story.

    Nice review. I went for a test ride on one yesterday and it's reassuring to hear comments that back up my first impressions. I've owned a 2010 Street Triple which I loved and now have a 2015 Street Triple R which I don't love; the suspension is much too hard for me on UK roads. The Tiger 800 manages to feel light and chuckable (despite being heavier than the Streetie) without the disadvantage of me feeling battered when I arrive at my destination. I sat on one of the 1200s in the showroom and then went to stand it up and immediately knew that was too heavy for me. As well as an 800 providing plenty of power for most people, you don't have the weight of a big bike to wrestle. I've owned a 1200GS, nice on the move but it did nothing for my confidence at junctions and in car parks because of the weight. I foresee a Tiger 800 XRX in my future.

    For 2016 Triumph is coming out with factory lowered suspensions in the Tiger 800 range. I'm 5'5" in thick socks and this finally gives me a non - BMW option that is usable in the ADV category.

    If I lived in England.I would ride the Triumph Tiger XRX but I live in the states so I would ride the MT-09 Tracer.We call it the Yamaha FJ-09 in the states.I live in Southern California.The FJ-09 has so much Torque and power in the A mode and it's a light machine.The FJ-09 will due about 60 MPG.I spent the summer in Altringham,England.It's a town just outside of Manchester,That was back in the summer of 1976.Long time ago.I was 13.I haven't been back since.Maybe one day I will visit.Spend a summer riding the roads of England.I'm 53 now.Still young enough to have fun.

    I too had a street triple mark and I loved it,but I wanted something that was maybe a bit better at distance. Had a test ride on the 800 tiger and loved it, to me it seems like a taller street triple with that fantastic triple engine. It is so light and handles so well, and like you I am 5 8" and the adjustable seat height is perfect for the shorter of leg you seem to sit in it rather than on it. Its great two up as well, cruises along motorways no problem, I never thought of getting an adventure bike but after riding one of these I now own one and I am very happy with it...keep up the great reviews! PS mine has an arrow can on,sounds even better.cheers

    After 40k miles on a 650 Vstrom, I tried a CB500X. Great little bike but after 24k miles realized, it's really hard to down on power and be entertained.
    Finally sold the X, a Sprint ST and a MG Breva750 to buy this bike. And it's been like coming home! Even though it's a bit heavier than the X, the balance is so good and the engine so tractable, I'm not afraid to venture off pavement. What a gem! Everything works wonderfully. No missed shifts, no vibes anywhere and great pull right from 2,000 rpms. 4 months and 10k miles - This one's a keeper.

    Great review. Got the xcx a few months ago, moved from the 1050, was a wee bit concerned initially about "down sizing".
    a permanent smile ever since. It's just a joy and fun to ride. Did a 1500 mile trip round the Harz. Love it even more now. Added MRA visor to top of screen, big improvement on the wind noise and can ride comfortably with helmet visor up.

      I am also considering changing my 2010 1050, xrx has loads more extras, are you happy with the smaller engine? How is the seat comfort and does the suspension soak up the bumps compared to the 1050? Cheers.

    • @TheSteps62
      @TheSteps62 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I have got the 1050 and am considering buying either an xr or the xc, coming from the 1050 how do you like the handling of the xcx? And how do like the suspension, better than the 1050? Our roads here in New Zealand aren't the best. Cheers, Steve.

    Great review mate. I just picked up a pre-owned 2017 with the top box and side paneers. Very nicely kitted out. Only 3500 miles on the clock. They certainly hold their value because I have seen a lot of you used ones for at least 2,000 US dollars more than mine. I picked mine up for $8,700 and I'm quite happy. I appreciate your review because I bought my Tiger without an owner's manual and from a non Triumph. So depending on good reviews like yours helps me to understand my motorcycle. Thank you so much 🙏

    Great review, spot on. I traded my Tiger 955i for an XRX and have found it excellent. 4000 miles in a month or so including trips to Wales and Europe averaging 62mpg. It's light, comfortable and as real world fast as you need. I can't fault of it except stock exhaust is too quiet so swapped for a British made Fuel can. I have ridden the BMW S1000XR and Multistrada, a different league in performance but unless you want sportsbike type acceleration and top speed, the Tiger matches up in most departments but saves you up to £5k. Try a test ride...

    The first Tiger I ever rode was a 2015 Tiger. I rented one in Colorado and rode all over the Rockies for 10 days. It lacked a little power in low RPMs off-road. I had to adjust the clutch, and it was better. Triumph upgraded the engine in 2018, so my 2019 Tiger I own now is much stronger. I don’t ride off-road much. It’s not a XC bike. But I’m not a young rider. I’m 67. I’ve got the low model, because I have leg problems. It fits me just right. I have a 1100 GS. So the Triumph gives me what I want, until I get to serious off-road riding. I recommend it.

    Thanks for doing a great video. It's an awesome bike and glad you had fun on it. I rode the XRx with Tracer back to back a few months ago (videos on my channel) and found the tracer a lot firmer than the tiger. The level of smoothness on the triumph felt very natural same as the riding position. I'm looking forward to your new video on the Yamaha Mark. Enjoy the heatwave on Wednesday:). SR

    Hi Mark, I'm in the market for either an XRX or an XCX. I watched this video last week and have been watching similar vids from others since. I re-watched your vid just now and have to say that it is streets above the rest. Informative about the bike; you show us how it operates in the real world and how it 'got' to you.
    It was also a great pleasure to watch someone riding, imo, properly. Altogether a pleasure to watch.
    Now I just need to find your Tracer test vid !!!!

    Just recently bought a new Tiger XRt in metallic red...very smart! Great engine as you say, but still running mine in. On hold at the moment whilst waiting for better weather.
    The Centre stand is awful, very hard to get on the stand, and just as hard to get off too. At least the side stand is vey good. Also, bought a shorter screen from Powerbronze as I find the standard very noisy. A common complaint I believe. Lastly, the 12V DIN sockets...no use for anything without bulky adaptors!
    But apart from the minor niggles, a lovely bike to ride...and that's what matters. I also have a Kawasaki Versys 300, and awaiting delivery of a new Honda CB500X any time now.

    Tested the XRx today, loved it, however the wind noise and buffeting was appalling. I'm 6ft, and on either setting it was shocking, even at 15mph. Still considering getting one but that would just drive me crazy. The Triumph larger screen might help but I've seen comments that it doesn't make much difference sadly.

    I think its down to the Tiger XRX or the Z1000sx for me, I seem to love\hate the Tracer looks, but then there's the bloody Versys 650, which when configured with the Touring package, comes in much cheaper than the XRX, but then the Z1000sx in Candy orange (Touring package) just looks so sexy :)

    Why put the exhaust where the pannier goes, it's a touring bike? Underslung exhaust would be better, & a TFT screen with navigation. It's a no brainer Triumph.

    Sounds like a very 'nice' bike! Interesting review; I am 5'8'' and recently bought a BMW F800GT as I thought the Tiger would be too tall. The BM is great in town and also on a motorway. Perhaps I cold be tempted with a go on the Tiger.

    Great review Mark thanks. Do enjoy all your reviews. One thing I really dislike about this bike is the fact that the pillion peg mounts are welded on to the sub frame which reminds me of a gen 1 Bandit 600 I had a "million" years ago... Very poor/cheap as could easily be damaged in an on/off road spill!

It's standard, but after an hour it's uncomfortable. The pain is in my tail bone area and takes a couple of days to get over.

    Mark. Would you consider these bike a suitable first big bike? Passed my test in 2008 but life then got in the way. Had a couple of trail bikes over the years but nothing above 250cc. I only ask as one has come up in my local area at a reasonable price. Many thanks.

      Hi James ...yes should be fine..just take it steady for the first few hundred miles getting used to the weight and power ...v Strom 650 and versys 650 are other good used buys

    Hey Mark. I really appreciate your impartial reviews. I am a new rider (age 55) wanting a commuter bike for motorway and London traffic plus touring ability. I am torn between the Tracer 900 and Tiger 800xrx. £2k difference basically. I am testing riding them both again this weekend. My sensible hat says the Triumph but my wilder side says the Tracer - it looks better too. Triumph servicing costs are quite a bit higher it seems. Any handling difference between the 19" front wheel of the Tiger verses the Tracer's 17"? What bike would you recommend?

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil Matthes hi Neil well first off they are both brilliant bikes so your going to be happy with either personally I preferred the bottom end power of the triumph whereas the Yamaha has more top end. I think if the yam is 2k cheaper then definitely go tracer. the 19 inch wheel rolls over bumps better but it's not that important. I see quite a few tracers in Dorset on my travels and they look good All the best mark

    Hey Mark, I really enjoy your reviews. Any chance you can get your hands on a 2016 Tiger 1050 Sport to compare to the 800 Tiger XRX and Yam Mt-09 Tracer? Would be interested to hear your views as I am planning on changing up from my Kwak Versys 650 later this year and want to get a bike that I will be happy to keep for a long time. Thanks!

    come on, do the tracer review soon! and compare to this! im very curious, since the tracer seems to be the king of middle weight class, the 1200 touring category is not feasible as im commuting in city daily, middle weight touring seems like the best for me

    Needless to say the English are always going to be biased, so don't take their words seriously.
    You must test ride one yourself to find out what's really like. However, I think Triumph building this bike with such a low ground clearance they've completely ruined it. I'm only 5'10' I had my legs bent, it's a very weird sensation, it felt like I was seating on a scooter, it's going to hit all sorts of bumps and uneven tarmac and scrape the foot pedals off especially into the bends. It didn't give me any confidence since i was always worried to touch down with that little sort of plate they've fitted under it, I definitely disliked the 19' front wheel, replacing the spokes, they've totally spoiled it, what a waste ! Thanks but no thanks !

    Ask yourself just exactly how much you absolutely desperately need that extra power, those additional cubic centimetres of the 1000/1200/1300 adventure bikes. Unless you're definitely ALWAYS going out for two hundred mile + rides every week, it's a (heavy) pose. It's a personal choice of course and I guess there's always that rush to be enjoyed from the sheer brute power of the bigger machines. But ultimately there's no denying that an 800cc machine such as in this review is just as capable of a fully loaded round the world jaunt.

    • @HypnoticPattern
      @HypnoticPattern 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Keyboard Dancers the 800cc motor from triumph has more than enough power to loft the front wheel to the sky at speed. you can throttle on in 1st, and 2nd, and you can clutch up from just about any gear.
      I can't imagine needing more power since if the bike weighed a teeny bit more it might not be nearly as fun.
      I LOVE THIS BIKE!
