    Well made docu with detailed reports on many skirmishes and battles. But the gallant defence of pasir panjang in singapore by the malay regiment was not mentioned. It was one of the great last stand stories of the malayan campaign.

      unlike in national TV, only malay regiments are shown to have given their lives defending this country.

      Cheers Andrew, I thought it was a good idea to have all the videos in one place as it makes it easier to watch the action unfold.

    half brought me to tears at the amount of lives lost defending a land some had come to call home, others but merely the path destiny brought them.

    Nicely put together - been watching this as I read through "Britains Greatest Defeat" by Alan Warren - Your graphical representations of the battles greatly enhance the text . I really wish the authors of such histories would put as much effort into the maps / orders of battles as You Tubers like yourself do . Well Done ! .

    Well done. Doing some research on my Grandfather’s movements prior to capture. He was with the 2/10 Field Regiment [Queensland) (22nd Australian Brigade)and to my understanding provided support at Mersing. I was hoping you had some information on this particular area. He ended up in Kanchanaburi working on the Thai Burma Railway and fortunately survived this experience. Do you have any info on the skirmishes at Mersing? My Grandfather was a Gunner but always said he never saw a Japanese until he was captured. Excellent video and thank you.

      Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video and that's an interesting story about your Grandfather. Unfortunately, I have no more information about Mersing, but there may be some information in the Regimental diaries that you may be able to find in the Australian archives.

    the malays, they support the japanese. but not all of them, the malay volunteers put up a good fight at bukit timah.
    why didnt the british use wireless comm? line wires get cut by enemy commandos making artillery useless.
    to those who wondered why the japanese was brutal is because their mentality at that time. they expect their enemy to fight to the death. cowards will be shown no mercy.
    in conclusion, the british are not prepared for malayan campaign. yamashita gambles with his limited resources and wins. but i think its not about the tanks and airpower. its about willpower to sacrifice anything for the objective.
    its just history i guess.
    anyways great video mr storm.

    Malaya was difficult to defend because local residents generally have been enlightened rightly or wrongly by Japanese propaganda of coming to liberating them from colonial rule.

    The "first allied casualties" were not in Malaya, they were in China several years earlier. China was our ally.

    • @StormofSteelWargaming
      @StormofSteelWargaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      China didn't join the Allies until 1941 after Pearl Harbor. Until that time they were not classed as an ally.

    • @phillipnagle9651

      @@StormofSteelWargaming Actually it is just the opposite, the US, UK and Australia did not join the fight against Japan until 1941. The US did not the join the European war until after Pearl Harbor but that doesn't mean that it wasn't going on.

    • @StormofSteelWargaming
      @StormofSteelWargaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am fully aware of that, but the Allies was a specific name for a group of countries that combined after the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor and the landings in Thailand, Malaya, Guam, the Philipines, etc. The Chinese had been fighting the Japanese since 1936, but did not become part of the Allies until 1941, therefore the first Allied casualty of the war against Japan was in 1941.
