- My 6 year old contemporary solo, Departure, from my third year of competitive dance. At Hall of Fame Dance Challenge: 1st Place Overall Petite (ages 8 and under, out of over 40 solos) in the Future Hall of Famer Division, First Place Platinum, and a technical excellence award.

WOW, what a future awaits this young lady. Most kids this age can't walk down a hallway without bouncing off the wall. Superb performance.
I’m sorry but the people commenting “needs more dancing” you do realize she’s 6 right??? There is only so much dancing a child can do at that age. She obviously has god given natural talent and the older she gets the more she’ll be able to add more dancing into that talent. But for her age this was a flawless routine.

Brought tears to my eyes. I have watched Dance Moms for years and have become conditioned to watching excellence in young girls who dance. When you have flexibility you will use more tricks because you are able. I enjoyed watching them as well as the control, facial expressiveness, and the awareness that comes with such control. A stunning and beautiful performance!

Note to your teacher/coach: why does she rely so much on her right leg for the extensions and tricks? She is so young and needs to be body-balanced. Being able to be amazing in both sides reduces predictability (not always tricks on the right) and gives her more artistic range. Don’t stunt her left side.
The truly amazing and captivating dancers work both sides. Sylvie Guillem for example.
My best guess is that since she is so young and most likely has recently learned a lot of her tricks, she isn’t very practiced on both sides. I’ve been dancing for 12 years and I am still quite a bit more flexible on one side although I don’t rely on one side one for tricks and turns. Considering she is so young and has such incredible control and technique already I would imagine that her skills on both legs will be almost equal soon

I hope she will be encouraged to balance out and not get up with just winning. Many of the older girls (teens, etc) in these competitions are so lopsided using only one leg and yet they win, which just encourages bad dance form. Seems like they are getting rewarded for tricks and not truly artistry.
Ann Wong I completely agree! It is a huge pet peeve of mine when dancers wear one shoe because they can’t do anything on one side. I honestly wonder how they get away with that because I go to a recreational studio and we have always been trained to do things on both feet so I would think kids who are training for hours everyday would be more balanced

Anyone is capable of raw talent and emotion at any age we're all born that way.
Flexibility we're all born with the possibility and the potential but it's just like a fire starting from hot embers we need to be given lots of love attention and help for our souls to ignite but once we do we are as a burning inferno and are tough to stop once we have it.

She’s very good at flexibility, but there was no dance to it. Just continuous splits and back contortions. But she is only six and has to do what the adult dance teacher tells her. As she gets older she’ll get her own mind and do what she likes. In the near future she will be a force to be reckoned with.
Right now tell me how you’re a dance competition judge in real life. 🙄

she performed great, but I kinda missed the actual dancing. for me this was just one trick after another barely connected. tho that is not the girl fault, she really did amazing and danced a lot older🥰
yeah, agreed. she is an amazing dancer and she expressed emotions amazingly however I feel like the chore was just not there and it was trick after trick
When you start dancing like her (I dont knwo the name of this dance type) than you start lerning a lot of tricks an these tricks you performe. But if you get older you will dance with more actual dance. I hope you understand. Sorry for englisch i am from germany. Btw i am not a dancer only wached a lot of dance moms :)

I actually love this comment. Dancing has grown to a place where now all it is, is seeing who can get their leg the highest, who can do more turns. These kids are being brought up with these standards that don’t make dance what it is. I would honestly be more impressed if she enjoyed her self and used the stage, flowed through her movements, and didn’t do as much tricks. Dancing is leaving its roots and this is a prime example of that. There’s no hate, this girl is amazing, I’m strictly talking about the sport as a whole.
