Well, here it 3 years later(2024) and I am getting a set to fool around with. My brother got another set of irons so these were free. Hand me downs... Anyway, Im going to see if they help me get better. I play all year round and the Saturday guys I play with are a lot better than I am. I had some Callaway X Hots and they were ok. Went to T200's presently. Now the B21's are somewhere in transit. Hoping these clubs are the final piece of the puzzle
I have the Callaway Big Bertha 2002 and they’re still my best clubs together with my other iron set, Ping Rapture from 2008. But as these clubs BB B21 receives great review everywhere I am interested of them. Noticeable is the “loft-creep”. A 4-Iron is now 19 degree, 5-I is 22 degree down to the PW of 43 degree. This is equal then to Taylor Made SIM max irons. Typically a PW is 44-45 degree (a PW was even 48 degree on Ping Eye2+ from 1983) so they have moved up additional 2 degree. This fits with their AW on 48 degree and then you get a set of wedges 52-56-60 or 52-58 / 54-60 depending on if you play two or three wedges. Looks perfect for me. Notable is that on the Callaway Maverick irons they have added both an AW on 46 degree AND a GW on 51 degree as their PW is whooping 41 degree.
Great review and respect how you take time to reply to comments. Most of the TH-cam golf instructors rarely interact with their subscribers. You've earned my subscription. Look forward to more videos.
Played with my new B21s for first time today. Felt odd due to shaft being much lighter. They are very forgiving. Played with 2004 BB for last 4 years. I believe these will be great once I get used to them and get my confidence up. Great review!
I’d been waiting for Callaway to return to their super game improvement Bertha irons with an iron that is actually super game improvement like this. For too long their recent Big Bertha irons have been a fashion statement compromise of reduced top line thickness and relatively narrow soles for aesthetic purposes which really hurt those irons ability to be true super game improvement irons. These look like a return to the classic early Big Bertha designs, where they really were designed for mid-high handicappers as super game improvement tools. I also love the fact they went with a standard finish on these instead of that stupid black smoke finish that several friends of mine literally had begin to wear off the club heads after just a few ball strikes. Very glad I waited on these, and I’ll be buying a set soon. Have you guys tested the new Bertha B21 driver or B21 hybrids yet? Thanks, Bob
Hey I know this is an older video but your knowledge seems to be very good. I'm looking at changing Irons I currently use the taylormade rbladez tour but looking for something with similar feel but with a little more forgiveness any suggestions would be appreciated
A really clear, helpful review. I have just bought Big Bertha 9 to SW fitted by a local pro which I really like. How do the B 21 irons compare? I can NOT afford to replace them but would really appreciate your honest opinion. I am 77 years old with a handicap of 23. 9 iron distance 105 yards. Thank you for a good review & I hope you will have the time to reply.
Alan Goudie Hi Alan. I really loved testing these and in my opinion are just a little easier to flight than the ones you have. In terms of looks, slightly thicker top line and wider sole👍
For absolute beginner. How important is the fitting? Would you choose to get these standard 2nd hand for 400 or get a cheaper club with the 400 but fitted?
Ryan, I'm a 9 hdcp, my ball striking with irons can be very inconsistent, I use a lot of the face. Getting older and the swing speed is slowing down a bit 80 mph with 75 mph with my 7 iron. My question is would you recommend BB21 irons for some with my profile? Finally I'm thinking of using the graphite to maybe help with some be. I would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thanks
Hi Sean, I would say that they are much easier to get in the air. I honestly couldn’t believe how high the flight was. For some players that will be a game changer. Top line is larger, wider sole and much more tungsten lower in the head to help👍
Hello! I am a high handicap (low 20s) female golfer, looking for forgiving club with senior flex (I'm a little tall for women's shafts). How do you think this club compares to last year's Big Bertha or the Rogue X for someone looking to improve and get some more distance? Thank you in advance.
I think I would love to buy these B21 irons.. But they have a HUGE (and I mean HHHUUUGGEEE) amount of offset.. Way too much for me.. Alot of golfers (even beginners) don't like that much offset. I like everything else.. Huge iron head, big size, easy to hit. Here's an idea for Callaway.. I wish Callaway would make the exact same club (same sized head), but make another version with very little offset. I would buy it .. and I think it would be a big seller.
Agreed. Only down side to these irons is for a mid-high handicapper that regularly draws or hooks their irons. The offset in these could be a big issue. And there are actually a good amount of mid-high handicappers who do get the face too closed on the majority of their iron shots. Callaway should consider the same clubhead as you mentioned with far less offset.
@@rcg9573 Thanks Robert .. I agree with you.. You and I are super smart. I'm a righty and I have hit many "super game improvement" irons, and I hit them all about 15 to 20 yard to the left. It's because of the offset that every single super game improvement iron on the market has. When I hit a "players" iron (these usually have much less offset) the ball goes pretty straight. The "players" iron have a very small iron head size (which I don't like). It would be nice it just one super game improvement iron marker would come out with a far less offset version. I think it would be a pretty big market for this. The B21 seems like a great iron and it would be a great if they come out with a low offset version. I would buy the low offset version.
@@golfshake Yes.. I hope they see our comments too.. and if they come out with a low offset version of the B21.. and it's a huge seller. Hopefully, they cut me a nice big fat check $$$$ for the excellent idea.. ;-)
Great review Ryan look great irons as a senior 24 handicapper playing at a championship course need all the help I can get! How do these compare with T400? Currently playing Srixon 155 irons from 2015 model year.
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video! I really enjoyed hitting the clubs and in terms of comparison to t400, they are similar from a forgiveness perspective but much easier to hit higher and stop on the greens. Both very good though and if you get fitted, one may work better for you than another
The Berthas are a more forgiving set for a worse handicap player than one who would use the standard Mavriks. Think of them as a step up in forgiveness from the maxs.
