And Rabindranath Thakur (Tagore) loved culture of Manipur. And he idealized the ideal Bharatiya woman as Chitrangada, the wife of Arjun from Manipur. And "Rabindra Nritya" and modern Bengali dance form established by the followers of the Rabindranath Thakur (Tagore) has immense influence from Manipuri Danceform. Manipur and Bengal has always influenced each other, back and forth. We love Manipur.

I said she's not Meitei Manipuri....cuz she is Bishnupriya Manipuri...these two communities are different and Chitrangada was a Hindu.... whereas at that time Meitei were not Hindus... Meiteis were probably converted to Hinduism around 1700...we people say that the present state Manipur is the old Manipur mentioned in Mahabharat and we were the inhabitants back then....but Meiteis deny it...they say that the Manipur mentioned in Mahabharat is not the present day Manipur because the old name of their state was Kangleipak....so it's still a mystery for us...but wherever the place Manipur was...we belong there.... although now our community is distributed in Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh...Meitei are Tibeto Burmese people and we are Aryan so we look different...even our language is different...but our traditional outfits and many customs are quite similar.....and rhi baat Bengalis k saath rishte ki...then we are more close to Bengalis than Meiteis.... because Bengali man SantiDas Gosai was responsible for their mass conversion from Sanamahi to Hindus...so many Meiteis dislike Bengali although unko galat bhi nhi bola ja skta ...unko zabardasti convert jo kiyatha unke Raja ne...under the influence of SantiDas Gosai....and we mostly stay nearby Bengali majority areas...also we look like Bengalis so zada similarity he...and one more thing..Meitei has Hindus,Muslims and Christians.... but Bishnupriya Manipuri are only and only Hindus... we may lack many historical evidence about our existence.. people say we copied Meiteis this and that... I don't mind... because somewhere it's really confusing how we have got the same outfit as Meiteis but different language...but one thing is for sure..that we are VAISHNAVS and pure pure Hindus
