this is just a wee vlog style video of my adventures in Edinburgh for a wee joined birthday with my sister and I thought you might enjoy it too x

It took me a long time to click on this video because whispering is almost always too abrasive to me, so I stick to soft spoken videos. It was exactly what I needed tonight and your whisper is officially my favorite on a short list of whispers I actually enjoy.

I spent the summer working in the UK last year. On July 4th weekend I took the train up to Edinburgh from Cambridge and man what an experience. Spent a day in Edinburgh before we rented a car and headed for Inverness. We stayed at a hotel in Queensferry and crossed that same rail bridge several times over the weekend. Interestingly Scotland reminded me a lot of my childhood home of northern Maine and I came to realize that of my ancestors who were from Scotland, they probably settled in Maine out of a sense of nostalgia for home.
I spent my last night in country by myself in a small town named Combrie. On a hike into town I found American Western Redwood trees planted in the forest grown to a height of fifty feet with thick treaded bark. People were very friendly and didn’t seem to find it odd a lone Yankee wandering around their town. It was a once in a lifetime weekend that happened basicly on a whim because I happened to be working over there.

I grew up in a small town not far from Edinburgh with Red Wood trees too! I can still remember the feel of the bark 🖤
@@LucyLoveCraftASMR I was amazed to find Redwoods in Scotland. At first I had no idea what they were. I assumed they were cedar trees and really old givem their width but the bark was too course. I dug into the internet and found Redwoods were imported to Scotland not long after the California gold rush in the 1850s. I would imagine 500 years from now those trees will tower over that little town which will probably not look that much different.
The central and northeastern part of Maine where I am from looks striking like the countryside between Edinburgh and Perth with its rolling hills carved by glaciers, evergreen forests, and farmland. Aside from the roundabouts of course 😉 The best time to go is August through late September because the midges and mosquitoes aren't as bad and in fall the leaves turn to brilliant colors that are amazing in the chill fall air. Although at the height of summer the days last forever, something I miss where I live now in California. It's definitely not as beautiful as Scotland for sure but I guess that's because I grew up there and it's not unique to me now.
I never realized how much the linguistics of Scotland influenced the American dialect of English, particularly in the rural areas of the east coast. For instance in Maine we use the term "A'yup" as a filler word which can mean different things based on the context of the conversation. I was taken back when I heard a similar slang term "Hayup" used in nearly the same way at a shop in that small town. It was so strikingly similar I even asked the girl behind the counter about it. I though we invented the term in Maine but I guess we just brought it with us from the old world.
Sorry to ramble on but I could fill a notebook with those few days it was so awesome. Scotland did ruin me though as I discovered the correct way to spell whisky is without the "e"; and I will never be the same for it 😉

Awesome, if you return to the UK, I'd highly recommend York, Bath, the Cotswolds in general. London isn't all that but all of the aforementioned places are wonderful. Kudos for pronouncing Edinburgh correctly, nice to hear lol :)
