finally i found a video on this! i have been trying to get into it for atleast about a month? after a hiatus for over a year, ive been so confused why i couldent get into the game. its so sad. i absolutely loved that game.
Around 9:50 I completely agree lol. "I was a former Ubisoft employee!" basically implies someone was working with a team of people to meet a deadline whether the product produced was good or bad. We all sort of know how larger coorps work. Of course larger coorps servers must be up at all times, it's professional and they're getting *paid*. I think it's veeery ironic how SOA came in this year while alicia was down, because it really got major hype for a game that is nowhere ready to be put out to the public yet- it was honestly unintentional marketing. SOA still has to rewrite "bad code" to suit their needs, and make the games playable while meeting the expectations of what already exists in Alex's AO. I think an important thing about life is to learn to give yourself and others grace. Alex is the only developer working on code consistently for Alicia Online, and it's a passion project. Sometimes passion projects burn out but to keep a game updated every Sunday for years already takes dedication. To not be paid and to know you will never be paid because Alicia is abandonware is another step. Do I think he could interact with the community more? maybe. But I think when people see others constantly criticizing your work it makes you not want to interact with them haha. Whatever the issues are, I hope Alex takes the time to ensure a good end product and not let all of this ruckus get to his head haha.

We can't deny what Alex has put into his version with his own time and passion as well as the other volunteers that go unpaid, plus Alex does put his own money in to keep his server up. I do wish he would come out with a statement of his own though and not have Kuri speak for him. Even if after he goes back to silence, anytime something like this happens it should be him not her speaking on it. A standard compensation box isn't really going to cut it this time around if the game does come back because the hole is dug and someone has to get in it, or start filling it back in with better actions towards the community because they are tired if waiting to see what happens and see what happened in the first place. As for SoA, I think their timing is slightly suspicious no lie. Of course they could have been looking for people to work on the project and the timing was just a coincidence with AO bring down, hard to say. As if now I am just gonna let the cards fall where they may, if I have to move to SoA to get my mario kart horse game fix because AO doesn't come back so be it. But if AO does return I will remain keeping an eye on SoA to see what they change or add that can make it more worth my while.
I just had to cackle at the person making a game dev discussion into a political thing like the fact that there is horrible stuff happening around us negates any other discussion to happen or that no one can't be frustrated about other stuff. Seemed more like a troll to me to try so desperately make it into a activist problem when the topic was just games. Both can happen at the same time bruh.
That's the kind of person that makes us look bad when we try to talk about the horrors happening, and climate change and transphobia, among other things. It's not a good look to shove it into conversations not even remotely related to it....
Recently got new computer and was so excited to play AO only to realize it isn't working. I tought the problem was my computer but now seeing this video it all makes sense. I really miss AO, there's no other games what could replace that. I really hope the servers opens again, or if not, SOA would come soon. I just really miss those silly magical races, it's insane how many hours I could just play that. And thanks for this video

Would it kill them to just update people on what's going on? The lack of communication from the team is genuinely baffling. Every bit of news I hear about this is the same thing, over and over, secondhand info from people in the same boat. The discord doesn't even seem to have a FAQ channel, the general chat is full of the same questions over and over cause no one can tell what's going on. I don't expect things to be up and running over night, but if it isn't likely the game is coming back, then I'd rather not waste my time checking back.

The fact that Hayley M Bright brought up Gaza in reference to an anime horse game being down is just 💀💀💀💀 I have family from there, and it sickens me that she uses their suffering during online banter like this actually sickens me. AO helped me cope with the trauma of my childhood in Gaza as I was adjusting to life in Canada during my teens. Sorry for the rant. Her comment is legitimately offensive to me. She seems like a narcissist who only brings up my people’s suffering to downplay other people’s annoyances On topic, I don’t think the game is coming back at this point. At least not any time soon.

Years ago when my grandma’s house was fire bombed, my sister and I were more livid about losing our video game systems and toys than we were about losing our home. My Mom was really upset about losing her jewelry, Grandma lost her prized quilt collection that she made herself and my Dad lost his entire stamp collection. Yeah, we made it out alive but that doesn’t mean we don’t get annoyed at seemingly minor things as well. She seems to speak from a highly privileged position, and just sees the struggles of people like me as a means to shut down a conversation. If she knew even half of it, she wouldn’t be trivializing it the way she is. I hope she is just an ignorant child with no life experience that just argues as a contrarian to ease her own boredom.
I was just telling my boyfriend about this game last night and about how if it ever comes back up I wanted to play it together, damn. It's been so hard to find information on it though, for me at least, so thank you for this video. I've been wondering if it was my PC or the game being down for years, and finally have my answer.
Honestly bringing back AO was a personal hoby that just benefited other people. Even though Alex and Kuri have been notoriously on a bad reputation for years it doesn't change that fact. They shot themselves in the foot by promising things, but at the end of the day they don't own anyone anything. Especially their time lol. To me this is like someone decorating their garden. The community loves it, the person keeps doing that and including the community and then the person decides it's not for them anymore one day.. then the village tries to burn the person down for not doing what they want lol. If people really want the game that bad there's the internet. Start with coding courses etc. Then realise after a few years the demands you've been having. Wasting time on hobbies doesn't feed you nor pay bills. Passions burn out.
Also Ive played AO since back in 2015 before we even had multiplayer and all you could do was time race by yourself in circles on 1 map. People need to understand it's part of life to be disappointed and that they don't get to dictate what others do with their own life.

In that sense people do deserve an explanation of what is happening, or even just a short statement to explain what has been happening, and if he really is going to get the game back up eventually like Kuri has said.

About this whole "Alex once threatened to make the servers russian only" thing; either, as someone in the comments already pointed it out, he has some huge power problems and loves to play with the "power" he has over us or he is simply delusional and blind. His russian fellows are a lot, but definitely not innocent angels when it comes to the majority of them. However, it also seemes quite unrealistic to me since Kuri herself is german. He wouldn't kick her out of the game now, would he? Since they didn't say anything for the past weeks, not even in any comments under their last facebook post, it really feels like they have choosen to give up on the game in total silence. During the past months we at least had an annoyed (and quite disrespecting) Kuri telling us that Alex would be working on it; but nowadays, I don't know, I'm just waiting for the final end. I don’t want to piss anyone off with my questions, I haven’t played in a really long time and I was never really informed in the community. Is AO still down? And does AO contain some type of a virus? I know this has been an argument for a longer time now but no one seems to be actually answering this. I recently downloaded malwarebytes and I got a warning for the alicia launcher, eventough it never warned about AO before.
AO is unfortunately still down and no, if you’re downloading it off the correct website, regardless of any warnings you may get; it doesn’t have a virus. Apparently, there is some random file within its makeup that annoys malware programs, not really sure.
Damnn i remember downloading it for the first time a few years ago on christmas and i always log in from time to time and i was wondering why i coulent for the past few months... Welp now i know
Not knowing what is happening now is annoying me. I play Ao since 2017 now, to be honest, since a longer time I didn‘t really played active anymore, only when there were events, or when I wanted to play it, I played it also again before the shutdown were, before I also reached something in game which I tried longgg to reach it, that the server got down not long after it is so sad, because in the whole time I really wanted to play Ao again, I just hope they can bring back the Ao servers, I saw a Video in my native languge where someone talked with I think alex, it got said in the video Ao would come back but also SoA would come. As just looking around looking for any answers I have seen is people talking how Alex is petty? (I saw someone mention that he threated to turn the server into a strictly russian one? idk if thats true but if so y i k e s) and some people in the community have varying problems with the xWhiteKurix person? Keep in mind I mainly only look the fb page for updates so seeing some people talk about others and drama but never the sistuation in full is confusioning. Though with all that said I think while the team working on this version of Alicia has done a lot buttttt I have also seen smaller teams keep up private servers of other games , so I can't help question whats is really going on. I mean I kinda understand the slience a bit as it seems that that this version of Alicia has more harsher community in some ways. I just hope we get some sort of update on FB or the vk page.

Well good news is Alicia Online is fixed, Alex is just working on fixing the server security so it'll be another month before Alicia is back online

I mean I kinda understand the slience a bit as it seems that that this version of Alicia has more harsher community in some ways. I just hope we get some sort of update on FB or the vk page.
@@chaoticallycute7792 I can confirm in the past Alex has been petty and his threat of a strictly Russian server is true.. I was in the discord when that whole situation went down and saw the whole thing. I don't know if he would still behave that way if that whole situation happened now, but can confirm it.
