Meet Maria Khoreva- Mariinsky Ballet

- Khoreva graduated from Vaganova, was accepted into the Mariinsky Ballet, and immediately began fulfilling that expectation, being assigned featured or leading roles that one would not expect a ballerina fresh from graduation to be given.
She was already a superstar, with devoted Instagram fans following her life as a pupil in the Vaganova Academy (follow her @marachok). Her talent was already obvious-as were her exceptionally long lines, elegant technique and charisma-and when she joined the company's corps de ballet, it was apparent that her artistry was also far beyond her 18 years.
hearing her say her parents are her soulmates makes me super happy and it really explains why she’s such a warm person who’s willing to teach and help so many people. such an incredible person and a ballerina❤
Very intelligent young lady. Superb talent, she was accepted into the Mariinsku Corps de Ballet, when they saw her in action, they promoted her to First Soloist bypassing Corphee and Second Soloist. She will be a Prima soon. I have been watching Ballet for years and I have never seen anyone promoted right out of school, usually it takes years, especially at the Mariinski.
Natalia Osipova at the age of 18, she joined the Bolshoi Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet. In 2005, she danced the role of Kitri in Alexei Fadeyechev's production of Don Quixote and was promoted to soloist in 2006. Yes but not Mariinski.:)
Diana Vishneva joined the Mariinsky right after graduating from Vaganova in 1995 and was promoted to principal one year later
svetlana zakharova got a name of ''proma'' at the age of 18. i think maria is really doing the same :)
@@DanceChannelTV yes but after that it took Natalia 4 years to be promoted to principal. Almost like her career came to a standstill for a while and ultimately she left the bolshoi. Let’s hope Maria stays at the Mariinsky and is promoted to principal very soon.
"You cannot hide behind your technique" -well said Maria!
She said that in a particular context. She didn't say or imply that technique isn't important. She's saying that although you need the technique there is more, in addition, required.
she is so perfect technically and she knows that she has to develop her personality and artistry, she is so young !

Anybody that thinks a Ballerina is 'stupid' is just DEAD WRONG. These are among the most brilliant individuals with the most extraordinary precision to detail. You'd never make it into any Corps de ballet without being intelligent!
Jordan Sparks my teacher always used to say....theres no such a thing as a dumb ballerina, its just impossible. Stupidity and dancing cant coexist.

She looks like a baby here :-) and it's very beautiful that she has no make up on. Her English is exquisite and it is very interesting to listen to what she is saying.
I think in one of her Instagram stories she said her mom has a career where she uses English daily. I don't think her mom is an interpreter but if I remember it has something to do with the English language.

I think she excels in roles that focus on technicalities. She doesn’t do well,YET, in roles that requires to show strong emotions to portray the character. Other than that, she is perfect for ballet! I feel like the day she learns to emote on stage / make strong connections to her partners, is the day she’ll be promoted to prima ballerina!

to be honest, i don't think maria could have ever been a corps dancer. not that she can't work or dance in a group, but she would automatically look like the soloist. it is just how she dances is so exquisite that she can't not distinguish herself. she really has that special something... i really have never seen it before. she is so pristine and so breathtaking in that way--you really can't take your eyes off of her.

This is the first I ever heard this idea that ballerinas might be unintelligent. The question itself seems kind of unintelligent. Surely someone trained at Vaganova is deeply cultured and understands beauty. That is already very much, это очень много.

A lot's of young Russians have fluent English.

Such an amazing and intelligent talent I follow her on Insta and she makes great content. I do wonder though if the Russian school of ballet or Marinsky are stricter abt body weight and demands that dancers be under a certain pretty low weight for their height. It seems that dancers from the Marinsky are all very thin.
Almost every American wants to fatten up Russian ballerinas ? Don't you think this is strange ? Don't compare American ballet and Russian ballet . Russian ballet has a lot of supports and lifts in contrast to the American one,take pity on the Russian male dancers .For Europe and Russia, it is generally not natural to have a large body weight . Keep your standards to yourself .

This question from the interviewer about intelligence, tho...ballet needs so much coordinated mind- and bodyscills to just work at the minimum, plus music and choreografie, which makes it very complex, plus the social skills to function in a company, in addition the psychological strengh to perform, the emotional intelligence to act, the selflessness to give your soul to the audience....
Beeing a ballerina is combined intelligence on many levels, exquisite body and robust health.
In former days ballerinas might not have received a deep education, because it already takes si much to develop the body.
Nowadays ballerinas also must achieve a good school education, when they choose to become a dancer....who else is having 15-17 hours days when they are a kid or teen? 6 or more days a week, never have long breaks? They are probably the most dedicated people on this planet...
Just because in the end everything looks easy and carefree, it doesn't mean it is easy at all.
The interviewer should definitely work on his English. Maria is exquisite!

@@LanaArtSweden A native English speaker can hear the mistakes but that is not the point. He speaks good English despite mistakes and communicates well. that's what's important.
@@Marta44339 , Maria's English is better than the interviewer's. And yes, this is the point. You make yours, I make mine. His mistakes in English make it harder for the interviewee to make her points clear. Check the Maxims of communication. Professionalism has not been cancelled yet.
I wish I was put in a sport growing up. Seems sports people have it all figured out at such a young age lol
My niece is in gymnastics and she’s amazing. She was out in gymnastics at 4 years old and she’s 11 now. It’s crazy.
I’m 27 and never was in a sport haha I wanted to do gymnastics as a kid but my family was broke as fuck so it didn’t happen. Oh well hahaha

There are different types of intelligence. Visual, spacial, kinesthetic and many more are inherited by professional dancers. You choose to be a dancer because you are gifted kinesthetically and you know this from the start.

OK…..I had to stop the video….I have _never in my life_ heard that ballerinas are “not smart””!! Is that a Russian stereotype?? I am not a dancer (classically trained singer and flutist), but it is absolutely clear to me that to get to the top tier, dancers _have_ to be incredibly intelligent, incredibly sensitive and discerning and responsive, and far beyond just musically literate. I find their ability to find and then manage the smallest muscles in the human body truly unique, and they have to have a ridiculous amount of intentional self control. They also tend to be much more articulate than the general run of people, after having watched about 100 interviews. In fact, I believe Rudolph Nureyev was a genius in terms of IQ, because of the voracity with which he “devoured” books, various art forms, and ideas from everywhere on Earth, but he went much farther than that because he applied everything he learned, processing all of it into his own art, whether he was dancing, or choreographing, or both. His fierce engagement was always burning in his eyes, and I have noticed these qualities in many other dancers, but few to Nureyev’s degree.

She certainly has the ballet physique and is very pretty to look at. She is also well trained. However, she is so young, she doesn't emote yet. I have seen Maria, Kondaurova and Novikova dance Bayadere in Berkeley recently, i have to say, i was bored by Maria's performance. Not only her performance, the whole night was a boring disaster. She will hopefully mature in her artistry and her body, her whole being will emote as she dances. Kondaurova and Novikova were both superb and exciting to watch.
