Matt’s THE man for all bulb wisdom- thanks a lot 😊 How many hours can the MV bulb be switched on for continuously ? Is there a limit ? Also - do You find the pricing reflects the quality ? Exoterra seems the cheapest & Arcadia the most expensive - how much does it play a role ?
Are you asking about the number of hours the bulb will give over it's lifetime, or just how long you should have it on for your animal? Reptiles should have a day/night cycle to preserve their circadian rhythm, maintaining proper sleep schedules is important. 12 hours on and 12 hours off is the most common. Some people like to run their lighting to follow the hours the actual sun is out that time of year. As far as pricing and quality, most of the big name brands are pretty similar. Personally, we use Exo Terra's Solar Glo bulbs most of the time. What you want to avoid is any knock-off brands that aren't tried and true. Improper UV output can be dangerous if it's too low OR to high, and the off brand ones have occasionally been tested to be very unreliable.
@@TyeDyedIguana Amazing, thanks so much 🙏 Yes, I have seen only complaints about the Chinese knock-offs and re: light cycle - yes, that's exactly what I wondered about :) Have people been buying those bulbs from you for themselves (for their own Vit D levels) rather than their reptiles at all ? I have seen folks online experimenting with it to pretty good effects - of course, very carefully. Would it work to use it safely, every other day for 1-5mins max (say 80W, at a proper distance, etc...) ? Or do they need to be switched on for sometime before the gas releases properly to emit the full light spectrum, etc ? Does it need to be calibrated somehow at the start or is it good to go just by switching it on ?
