What size mesh should I get in my saruca
I prefer the 16 mesh. If there is any silt left in your material, the 16 mesh will let it pass through quicker than the 20 mesh. The opening size is a tad larger, but a diamond that could pass through a 16 mesh would be very tiny.
Do you sale crater of diamonds soil with the saruca together? Or just the saruca.
I do not sell gravel of any sort. I have thought about it lately, but it is heavy to ship.

I like the higher sides on that Saruca. I may not make it back to COD anytime soon. Seems I spend a lot of time hunting sea glass. Happy Hunting.

The muddy miner, your invention ?
The saruca has existed in gemstone mining for many many years. This is one I made.
I have heard from others you make a good saruca. I was going to try making one from 12 inch pvc
@@304Plumbing the tough part is getting a tight screen, or keeping it rigid if you make a curved screen saruca. The PVC will be pretty heavy too, but I have seen them work.
My wife and I will be down March 25-29 if it doesn't work properly I noticed I can get one from Lovejoys right?

There are two options currently, 16 and 20 mesh.
What screen size do you recommend? I am going to Crater of Diamonds State Park in July for my first time. Also, I live in an area with garnets and gold (North Georgia and Western NC), so I could use the saruca more than just at COD SP. What size screen would be best for me to buy?
I like the 16 mesh for CDSP. It will catch most diamonds down to about 2 point, but will let any silt left in the gravel leave it. Should be the same with Garnets. Gold pickers should be the same, but fine gold would be a bit more finicky. You would need the 40 and 100 mesh when they come out.
Wel !! I was at the crater of diamonds yesterday and today . It got plowed yesterday afternoon .. even though I didn’t fine any diamond it was fun and was able to bring two 5 gallons full of material . Let’s hope I can find in those buckets . Thanks again for your tips .

i was thinking that it would be great for the first screening, to have a half submerged 15- to 20 inch long and about 8-12 inch diameter hand powered trommel which you could scoop material into and turn it, to get the larger stuff out, and make a high volume and lower effort classification step. my idea is, that you get a car of a certain size made, with its own stainless or plastic bin or tub which has a bottom drain, or a tip mechanism (for emptying and cleaning, or to grab your washed first or second step cons) and then have a second tub to catch the surface water as the first tub fills, as both a displacement and volume indicator, and water saving mechanism. and possibly as a means to switch bins over for the classification, or for using with a Saruca. what i would love to build would be a type of jig, that you turn a handle and it does the basic motions but, saves your back a bit form bending over and handling the weight of however many buckets you run in a day. i can imagine it as a single unit which you could easily move into the park and take up no more space than say, two regular size metal mesh carts for gear hauling. and, the tubs would of course double as gear hauling storage, for buckets and hose and screen sets/Saruca. and the trommel itself would be low profile enough to not be top heavy in transport. in any case, its something i've been thinking of for ages now lol.
Sounds like a good plan. I have thought about a mechanical jig as well for concentrating. Would save some back pain for sure…
