    Another example of the multiple faults that you have to find when another person has
    had a try to fix something.
    The ribbon cables are a nightmare to reinsert without damaging them.
    Well done Dave, you will have another happy customer.

    I bought a broken Pioneer, CLD-D702, off of eBay awhile back that had this same issue regarding that it turns on but does nothing. I noticed when I opened it up that the turn mechanism was a mess and assumed over time that was the issue. You just verified it for me Dave so I guess I’ll be working on this machine pretty soon. Thanks for the video 👍🏻🙂.

    “Don’t drop metal pieces and jewelry inside”…this should be included in the owner’s manual, but then again, no one reads them anyways. Nice job, Dave

    Question is, how did the ear ring get inside the machine? Did someone try to fix it and their ear ring fell in I wonder. Great fix again, keep up the good work.

    I was shouting "Check the ribbon cable" but you were not listening. Then you found it, but when you plugged it in and nothing happened, I thought "Oh dear, I guessed wrong" but then. By the way, can I have my ear ring back lol. (joking).

    In the days of CRT tv repairs i found coins in the back of the tv, on more than one occasion, probably kids dropping in coins through the airvents/slots, and then it suddenly stopped working, how strange! 😁
    Didn’t tell the owners though, you’ll never know what they’ll do to the kids….

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if it was me I would know exactly what I would have done to the kids. Doing the dishes without being paid for months or cutting the lawn without being paid for the entire summer or giving up all their allowance money to pay for the repair. I was brought up and taught the value of a dollar and back in the 60s a dollar went a long ways. I was taught to not go into debt and not borrow money but save for it until you can afford it because that's what my parents did. I've never had any personal debt other than my mortgage when I bought my home which is long paid for. If I want to buy a new car I go to the dealer and I write them out of check. If I broke something as a kid I was expected to work to pay for the damage just like adults have to. It builds responsibility. Both my kids are very responsible now that they've grown up.

      Always worked for me. My credit rating is probably very low. Never checked but as i don't borrow money and my 1 and only credit card it paid off every month I am sure my score isn't that high. Been years since i had a mortgage.

    I would say a slight different moral: "Don't let the kids play with hifi in living rooms, otherwise you'll find metals, toys, food, etc. . inside the machines".

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes it probably was kids. Everything breaks. Things that you think are unbreakable turn out to be breakable. Expensive neon sculpture that is definitely breakable was put up on a shelf 20 feet in the air for safe keeping. A ladder is required to get to it. One day it just broke. Climb up ladder to find a stuffed toy sitting next to the broken tube. Sonny boy said his friend threw the toy up and broke it. Friend denied it, say Sonny boy did it. Cost 500 to have repaired. Sonny boy learned quick when his allowence and chore money went into paying for the damage. He wasn't happy. It was one of those learning moments as they say. My reply was "if i broke something of yours you would expect me to fix it or get you a new one wouldn't you? His reply was yes, and my reply, there you go.

    Hey. Great job. Where are you located? I have a Pioneer CLD1580K. It will not play a disc. I took the top cover off and cleaned the laser. The problem, I don't see the actual laser working. I'm not going to look straight at it. Held my hand over it, saw no light.
    I'd like to ship it to you, and see if you can fix it. I bought it while in the USAF and just hate to trash it.
    Thanks in advance.

      @charlesjorden7499 maybe see if a belt needs to be changed out. If the belt is loose it might be able to spin a cd up to speed but not a laserdisc. Don't take my suggestion as the gospel since I'm just spit balling here.

  • @enricoself2256

    I wondered what the owner paid for the botched repair attempt: one hour of work and a metal earring ? Not a big fan of those ribbon cable connector, i prefer the one where you just push the cable in and that's it. In the connector where you have to slide the lateral tabs to lock the cable, half of the time just pushing the tabs will cause the cable to misalign and you have to start all over again ...

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well flex cable is required in this design because it needs to move so you don't use fixed wires or even flexible wires on connectors like that that have to move back and forth every time it reverses you'll end up with broken connections in no time. Those flexible PC boards like the ones used for dot matrix printers are designed to flex constantly without breaking

    If an earring gets dropped into the karaoke machine, there's a good chance something more was getting blown than the karaoke machine.
