It is true, it is not only the body what makes dance but we have to admit that ballet is a visual art and, whether we want it or not, dancers' bodies have a very important role to make a choreography beautiful. I insist, ballet is not only the body, it have the purpose of expressing something, that is the important thing. (Sorry for my english, it is not my first language)
Maria is so encouraging: "The difficulties are not there to push you away from what you love, but to make you stronger". Words that have really helped me powerfully during very difficult times. And she is just so beautiful in how she dances: lyrical and poetic. WHAT a dancer. Thank you, Maria.
When she was talking about how being short doesn't matter and that its about dance and this is not a modeling business I was like YAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS YYYAAAAAASSS PRREEEAACCHHHH
She need someone to tell her that SHE'S BEAUTIFUL AND AN AMAZING DANCER, perfect in her own way. Love what you do and love yourself because you come to the world to be happy. everybody does.
I am soo impressed by her wisdom and encouragement. These simple words of her's have helped me substantially during a very difficult period of my life. I'd like to thank her personally, and God willing, one day I will. Superb video, by the way: one of the very best from Anaheim Ballet.
Maria is an outstanding example of a great artist with amazing eloquence. Her words are a continual source of inspiration to me, and many others too, I imagine. Thank you, Maria, for your perseverance, your humility, your humanity.
"It's how smart you accept all the difficulties that come on your way, because there will be many. But, they are there to make you stronger, not to push you away from what you love." I LOVE THIS. This is SO TRUE. I am keeping this quote forever.
She is so inspiring! I met her when I was at the San Francisco Ballet summer intensive and she is so humble and nice! She is definitely one of my favorite dancers of all time because she shows that ballet is more than having the perfect body and technique (even though she has both), it is how you present yourself.
This just made my day a whole lot brighter, im almost leaving for my dance classes, and to hear the words like keep believeing and nothing is impossible made me smile. Im going to go to dance class and show them what i can really do. Thank you Maria
OMG. i love her sooo much one of my favorite dancers in the world! and i just... cant belive that she danced on the same floor i dance on everyday!! i LOVE anaheim ballet and i LOVE Maria Kochetkova!!!!!!!!
It really makes me feel amazing to hear this AMAZING dancer like maria kochetkova herself to say that there were moments where she wanted to quit, but didnt. she really is an inspiration
The best management advice ever given by anybody "It's not such much about a talent, it's how much you want to do it and how smart you work, how smart you accept all the difficulties that come on your way, because there will be many, but they are there to make you stronger, not to push you away from what you love.”
This is my favorite video, ever. It is the most inspiring! I have so much respect for Maria and hearing her say everything she said in this video just encourages me more and more to keep going and to beat the odds, because I KNOW I can make it!! Thank you SO MUCH Maria for this insight and inspiration. I will think of you often as I face difficulties, you are right, they will always be there -- but they make us stronger!
Well said!!! I'm 5'11" & was constantly told I wouldn't be able to dance professionally.. I let it get to me & eventually stopped dreaming of becoming a dancer... Thank you for letting dancers know it's really isn't about your body type, it's about your expression, dedication, & perseverance! Keep working & you can achieve your goals 3
I saw Maria dance the role of Juliet when SFB was here, and I beg to differ with her: She IS perfect. She defines perfection. She embodies perfection. She was exquisite, stunning, astonishing. I was moved to tears. Thanks for sharing this video.
This is by far my favorite video so far... I'm no longer a dancer because I had to give it up for my main career.. music. But regardless I feel the same overpowering encouragement related to musicians. It's always hard seeing better people, or being criticized. This was very inspirational! Definitely made my day.
I agree with alcyonae. My passion is in Classics, and so many of the things Kochetkova says in this video can apply to anyone who is working hard to pursue whatever their passions and dreams are. This video was one of the best birthday presents that I received today. This was such a great coincidence.
I'm also 5 ft tall and she's my inspiration. I started dancing a year ago and now I'm on grade 3 with the other students who has danced ballet 4-5 yrs and my teachers are great. They taught me well. I would never stop learning and I would never give up because I had found my true passion and I won't ever let it go.
Maria Kochetkova and Misty Copeland have been the two most inspirational dancers I have ever seen. They've given me hope, they make me believe in myself. One day I hope to inspire so many people, just like they do.
This was a responsible and thought through statement! Very good! I could really see what she meant when she talked about her dancing and the pictures you showed!
" Ballet isn't modelling business. It's about dancing. Tall people can dance, short people can dance, everyone can dance." I've not been this inspired in so long. I can replay this over and over again ;)

I cannot do ballet because there is no place to learn. It breaks my heart so much because this truly is one of my deepest passion. I may not be able to do ballet but I watch lyrical dance and try to do that. At times it makes me cry to watch these videos because I want to do this so so bad! I know I would give it my all and work so hard and put so much feeling into it.. I KNOW I could do it... I can't though. But watching others do it... is amazing. Thank you for inspiring me and posting these!
She said there was more talented people in her class.......... That cant be possible can it? Cause she was just AMAZINGGGGGG! She lifted her leg up to her ear as if it required no effort or strength! Brilliant dancer! :)

On Nov 28, 2008, she danced Giselle at Kennedy Center. My mom and sister and I were blown away by how she stole our hearts both in acting and dance. They finally understood why I love that ballet so much and why I had insisted that 4 of us attend the performance.
"Its how much you want to do it, how you accept difficulties. They are there to make you stronger, not to push you away from what you love. Ballet isn't a modeling business, its about dancing. It's how you express yourself and use what you have to do what you love." Maria Kochetkova
She really is a pint sized powerhouse. Not only is she incredibly strong but there is so much grace and beauty and heart in her moves :)
"ballet isn't a modeling business" .... perfect way to put it

There is this genuine and precious level of vulnerability in her voice that makes her so real, so lovable and so relatable to all of us. :)
