  • The Sawi were headhunters and cannibals when a young couple named Don and Carol Richardson arrived in their village carrying their seven-month-old boy Steve-and a message that would change the tribe forever. Fifty years later, Steve joins his father, Don, and two brothers, Shannon and Paul, to visit the Sawi village where they grew up.

This was the trip of a lifetime for Dad, my brothers, and me. I'm so glad we invited a videographer along to document the trip. Imagine if we hadn't - others would never have had the opportunity to share vicariously in our experience. My favorite parts were paddling the canoe, talking to the enthusiastic old "Isaac" from a distant jungle village, and encountering "Moses" on the bridge. I'm so glad the videographer happened to be there to capture these brief conversations. Our family loves the Sawi, their neighboring tribes with whom they used to wage constant war, and the people of Indonesia as a whole. I've given half my life to Indonesia and my brothers and their families still live there (though hundreds of miles from where the Sawi live). I hope this short video inspires and encourages everyone!

      Dear Victoria,
I am from India.I read this book when I was a teenager and it touched my heart in a very powerful way.I can say that it was instrumental in helping me appreciate the power of the gospel in a way I had not understood before. The part where the tribe people hail Judas Iscariot as the hero stunned me.And then how through the persistence of your grandparents, the Lord led them to a key to sharing the gospel in all that spiritual darkness is sooo amazing!
The gospel is powerful and no people or country is beyond its reach.
Praise God for your grandparents and thank you all for the testimony that has encouraged and touched many more lives around the globe. 🙏🙏

My dear brother in our LORD JESUS CHRIST, just like you in the past 2 hours I shed so many tears of happiness constantly thanking HIM for HIS word among your ancestors. I live in Germany among heathens on a socalled "higher cultural level", but this work here is nowadays much harder than ever before!
Therefore, pls. pray for this country, which is again led by the highest evil powers in this world to a center of unbelieve and witchcraft by the modern media!!
Our LORD JESUS is coming pretty soon and I am consoled and re-energized to continue and look forward to meeting our LORD JESUS from face to face in HIS heavenly realm and also to meet all brethren from around the world with HIM!
Glory and thanks therefore be only to our LORD JESUS and through HIM to our GOD and FATHER in Heaven!
      With outmostly brotherly blessings

How could people resent this? These tribes were headhunters and cannibals at war with one another, and now they are getting baptized in multitudes. What have they actually lost by giving up those old ways? How much have they truly gained? I thank God for people like this.

Don and Carol represent the missionaries that are front line to pioneer in primitive and sometimes dangerous places. Peace Child is not just a story of how God provided a breakthrough in this circumstance but is a illustration of how God's love reached out to sinful mankind to draw him to Himself. Don is a very good writer in addition to being an outstanding missionary.

I think what you and your parents did was great, but all my life I've felt called to the United States, but not as a pastor. All I know is my country is filled with darkness, many of our leaders have actively turned their backs on God and the people follow them. I'm not quite a voice crying in the wilderness, but my mission field is here. On the other hand I have brothers across the United States as well as in India, Pakistan, and Uganda. In a chat with a brother from Uganda I believe the Holy Spirit filled my mouth with His words to make bricks and not worry about the monsoons so much. He said he rents the land. So I asked him if the land owner lived in a mud hut. A couple of weeks later he told me the land owner would let him lay up to 25,000 bricks. Pray for Brother Peter. This may open a new door to preach the Gospel.

What an awesome story. How brave your parents must have been to put all their trust in the Lord and go out and spread the gospel. My ancestors were methodist preachers who came to Canada when there was nothing but bush. They helped build roads and preached the gospel to the indigenous people. They were even gifted a war club from a chief who became a preacher himself, and once baptized, gave up his fighting ways.
It's so crazy to think what those days must have been like.❤

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an incredible blessing to watch this. Even if I only came across it in 2022. We had the privilege of hosting Don Richardson as the main speaker for our Missions conference, at our local church in Vanderbijlpark , South Africa, round about 25 years ago.
What a blessing! My husband and I were so struck by his humbleness and sincerity! I also remember how proud and grateful he was that all his children also loved the Lord. Looking at this short film I am again struck by a FAMILY serving faithfully and even able to still speak the language so many years later. I wondered if the actual infants that were exchanged as the peace child(ren) were still alive today?
Thank you só much for sharing this!!

My American sweet Mama-san sent me this TH-cam about 7 years ago, and I happened to see again. This is so beautiful. Mama-san had been missionaries in Japan for many years, and went back to her country about 20 years ago. She did the same great work here in Japan, and I am really appreciated that she taught me about Jesus. She also showed me it is very important to read Bible every day, which I do now. If I did not meet Mama-san, I am not here now. She left God's great love in my heart, but I have not been with God for many years and almost forgot about him, but in my heart somewhere he has been. Even after so many years, he just comes back to my life. Mama-san had been encouraging me even I was away from Jesus, but her love never fade and always be my Mama-san. She actually have 8 beautiful sons and daughters who was born and raised in Japan. But she cared about me also. When I saw this video, I think about Mama-san and her own kids and what they think about their childhoods in Japan. Papa-san was gone several years ago, and I miss him, too. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you our heavenly father, I pray for all missionaries who work for God all over the world in his name. Amen.

Just finished reading your book, "Is the Commission still Great? which lead me to this video. First, like so many others I read your father's books years okay while my wife and I attended, what was then called, New Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, WI. They left a huge impression on me especially Eternity In Their Hearts and Peace Child. I've recommended them to many through the years and passed out a few as well. Second, I'm so thankful for your families commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and the preaching of His Gospel to the ends of the earth a big encouragement to my heart this day. Finally your book, Steve, which was given to me by a another faithful servant of the Lord as yourself, has reset my heart and mind to understand better that the global and local mandates are not in competition buy compliment each other. My heart was renewed this week to speak the Word of the Lord more courageously, Thanks be to God for your encouragement to the Body of Christ!

YES! This is the power of the Gospel. The power of our Creator, our lord Jesus Christ. His gospel goes beyond cultures, beyond race, beyond human weakness and frailty. God changes hearts, he makes weak men to be bold lions in the face of adversity, allowing peace to reign.
I busted into tears in the beginning when the correlation between these infant children being used as peace offerings became the conduit to share the gospel, to be the conduit of grace that God used for his missionaries to speak the truth.
I notice how it isn't about you guys. It's about what Christ has done through you and your family. The work that was done was incredibly instrumental to help lay the foundation for these people to continue the work. Your parents made disciples, who in turn made disciples, and so on. That is the definition of the great commission.
Nay sayers often think westerners go out to spread western thought. This is not the case with true believers who hear and heed the call to go into the ends of the earth to share the gospel. PRAISE GOD!

    Joel 2:12-13
Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;🙏
and rend your hearts and not your garments.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;🤍
    and he relents over disaster.

Saya bersyukur bertemu seorang yang mencintai Tuhan bersama anak-anaknya ketika perayaan 50 tahun Injil bagi suku Sawi.
Pengalaman yang berharga ketika melayani di tempat Injil di tabur dengan kasih.
