I'm all about what you share, here's one: I backwash my radiator after using coil cleaner just like on air conditioner After long miles and tons of bugs getting caught it needs a good washing out. Keeps good airflow coming into engine area.... Your share Awesome info. God Bless
Yep that's a good thing to do too. When I first bought our rig I noticed right off the bat that the front grill from the factory had pretty large openings or holes in the grill. Big ass bugs, lots of bugs would pile up all over the front of the radiator. So to eliminate this problem, I went to HD and bought some 1/4" *square* chicken wire. Made a cardboard template that was the same size of my front grill. Cut the chicken wire to that pattern. Then placed the chicken wire INSIDE the grill and fastened it to the grill with about 30 small white zip ties. You can't even see it from the front and it almost totally eliminated bugs from getting on the radiator. I replace those zip ties about every 2 or 3 years. And in case your wondering.....NO it does not restrict any air flow. I need to show that in an upcoming video. Thanks for bringing that up. 👍

Great video. I watch all your stuff and you have been a big part of my RV education. Why do you use Mobil 1 in the coach and Royal Purple in the generator? My guess is Mobil does not make an SAE 30. If that’s the case, why not use RP all around? I use a spreadsheet. I’m a CPA so it is not a big issue for me. You can, & I do, use a cell for notes. You can overfill the cell and read by expanding it. I like being able to use the Excel features to sort, search & organize.
Good question. 1) Both my car and the coach use the same weight oil 5W-20. Mobil 1 is easy to find, comes in quarts which makes pouring in real easy and I've always been a fan of this brand 2) On the generator: Mobil 1 does make a 0W-30 oil but is very hard to find and usually more expensive. But besides that, the generator is a different kind of engine. It's a high rev engine that is air cooled and runs hot b/c of it being enclosed. So I want a more "stout" oil for that application. Royal Purple could be considered a racing oil like Lucas oil. Take a look at this article. Did roof joint inspection on our 2016 Adventurer 38Q this AM. Found 10 ft of bad joint adhesive/sealant. Removed old adhesive/sealant, cleaned with mineral spirits applied 1 tube for 10'ft of joint using the remaining tube of Geo Proflex (never again). Will not use it again. Will likely use what Martin recommended for future joint repairs as I have not had good results with the Proflex in use or its ability to hold up. Starting to wonder if I can do this maintenance item much longer at my age on belly on roof for 2 hours feeling unstable in the morning heat and humidity. Wish Bago had found another method of securing the Filon roof that didn't require this much attention
We haven’t yet bought the RV we are looking at, but have been watching a few different RV YT channels….some for entertainment, and others for educational benefits. I started watching , and have subscribed to your channel. When I first started watching your channel, I thought to myself, “man, this guy is OCD and wayyyy overboard on maintenance.” However, after watching more and more of your videos, I was rethinking my original assessment. Yes, you do a LOT more maintenance and a lot more minute and detailed maintenance that nobody else ever even mentions. After seeing the age of your MH, your diligence and hard work appears to pay off, as you keep your motorhome and all of its components in excellent condition, and do the best you can to hopefully minimize your problems. Keep up the great work and the great videos! You’ve made me think of maintenance items that I would have never even thought of.

Martin great video.....I agree on PM process.....my RV has sat idle due to Covid and repair parts storage last 18 months so hit it big time today; changed oil and filter, power steering fluid myself. Had local mechanic change transmission, brake, coolant and differential fluids.......this weekend will hit the rest of items on this video......thank again .....
Hello Martin, Rookie Class A'er here. Got 2005 Winnebago Itaska 8.1. Crossed my motor battery terminals . No visual damage, replaced some fuses. Now runs good, slides, lites, generator all work. But batteries now don't charge. Likely fault, alternator and or solenoid?
Martin I was shocked and felt like I had my friend give me the bad news. Now I’m 77 and was a policeman as my main occupation. Well I live in Alabama and have a friend who’s son in law got cancer about 5 years ago and was told he had 6 months to live. Well he researched his issue and found that if you take a certain dog dewormer. You probably think I’m nuts but he’s still living today. Another friend is promoting this drug and he convinced his friend to take it. It resulted with a reduction of his tumors. It’s not very expensive and if it works all the better. I don’t know the name of the dog dewormer. At worst you won’t have worms. I thought they were nuts but everyone I know that tried this, it helped. Doesn’t cure you but it slows it down. When I get in touch with my friend I’ll send you the name. I just want to thank for all you’ve done for us. God bless y’all
I'm sad to say that Martin lost his battle with cancer last year. By the time he was diagnosed his body was full of cancer and he passed a few short months later.💔
Oh....I find them in all kinds of places. Convenience stores, flea markets, boutiques in some of the towns we visit, found a real kewl one in Walmart, and one at a Amish farmers market in PA. I'm always on the hunt for another bandana.
Fell behind on maintenance due to weather, grandkids and a bad cold. Got an awful lot to catch up on. Wash, Rejex, chassis lube, generator maintenance and genny oil change, roof wall joint are next on the list. It kinda hurts thinking of all I have to get done! I guess I am ancient in my approach to logging my maintenance (I use chisel, hammer and stone LOL). I use a hand written journal. I used to use the Ford Motor company customer maintenance web log for the F53 then one day it just quit leaving me high and dry with all my data. I guess Ford had a better idea on what to do with their web space. The journal/notebook is clunky and as I age my writing is getting bad, but its handy and it works. Like you I add a lot of good stuff to supplement my memory. Probably need to migrate to WORD.

All your comments on spreadsheets seem a bit off base to me. You can do everything you do in InDesign in Excel or Google Sheets. On the other hand I don't think your log method would be helped by them. Spreadsheets provide other options like a reminder field to redo something. I'm still forming my methods so I can't offer much, but I'd like to hear about your software contact.
Well *ALL My COMMENTS* on using spreadsheets was basically one comment. It doesn't fit *MY* wheel house. PLUS, like I said, I don't want to buy another piece of software. I have to many programs to keep updated now. But if it fits others needs that's kewl with me. I know my RV so well that I personally don't need reminders of when to do stuff, but others may like that feature. Like I said in the video, once my software contact that's reworking their online maintenance program launches, I'll post that info in my Community Tab. But if you use your water pump often like I do-if you have a leak-you'll know it immediately by the way the water pump acts. I've been binge watching since I found your channel yesterday. Great information! I have a suggestion that will prevent your out of focus problem you had in some of the scenes (#'s 7-13). Once you sit in front of the camera and establish focus have your wife switch the camera to manual focus. This locks the focus and prevents the camera from focusing on anything other than your face. I used this method every time I had a static scene when I was a photographer by profession.

I have a fifth wheel, when I purchased it there was not an operational or suggested service manual included. My most immediate question is about my hydraulics. I have no idea how much fluid it requires, whether you check the level with the slides in or out and for matter what kind of hydraulic fluid do you use to top it off. I attempted to find the answers to these questions on Lipperts site with no luck so I am hoping that maybe you could steer me in the right direction. Thanks again, Lee

If you can't find out the info on LIppert's website call or email them with your specific info of your system. And, you need to get the manual for those systems from them. Ask for a link so you can download it. Martin, I have a no start situation with my Onan 5500 Marquis. I push the prime side of the stater button can hear the fuel pump priming, then try to start. I get nothing! No solenoid clicking, NOTHING! Do you have any recommendations? Also, where is the solenoid located. The age of my motorhome is a 2006 Georgie Boy 35'. Thanks for all you do and for your service.
Check your electrical connections to the left of the starter button and especially your house batteries. It sounds like your house batteries are to low. Put a load test on them and check load with a multi-meter.
I like what you're trying to do but I disagree with you. It depends on how a camper is used and how it was built to begin with. We have an awesome camper that would become a maintenance nightmare if we travelled much but if we park it in a nice spot it lasts longer. If we want to tour the country we would just rent a class C.
Whether you sit still permanently or travel, there are many things I covered every RVer should be doing every year. So, I'm curious what you disagree with. Was it: • Wash the RV, add RejeX to protect it • Clean electrical connections, transfer switch and main breaker panel • Greasing areas that require that • Service water heater • Sanitize fresh water tank • Clean & Condition rubber stuff • Lube hinges, locks and items in the engine bay • Cleaning vents and vent covers • Clean AC units • Clean and lube steps • Tap fire extinguishers for safety • Maintenance logs
@@RVstreet The only thing I disagree about is the whole idea of owning most campers unless you park it. If you travel much they become a maintenance nightmare. Very few people think doing all that maintenance is any fun at all. You seem to like it. You are in the minority.

If you want to own an RV and just park it that's kewl. But even in that case you still have to take care of it or it will die a slow death. Like anything else in life. Most people who buy an RV want to be able to travel-either a little, now and then or full time-and they want to have a self contained mobile home of sorts, and enjoy different places. Not sit still. Maintenance isn't supposed to be a fun activity but it is a responsible fact of life that revolves around everything about how we live. Maintenance is required in owning a home, a car, your finances, your career path, relationships, raising kids and so on. Everything in our lives requires some sort of maintenance and attention. I can tell you and I aren't on the same path or wave length and that's kewl. But... I certainly am not in the minority when it comes to maintaining an RV and the importance of it. It just boils down to this....if you want to have fun and travel there is some work involved. Either you do it or you don't. If you don't do it, then yes...life in an RV can become a nightmare because of neglect. It's just the way life is. I've enjoyed the discourse with you William 💗

Hi Martin, You never cease to amazed me , great info, I have a 2015 Fleetwood Bounder classic 34B, I have started to change part of my transmission fluid at my oil changes. I have a 5 at plastic measuring pitcher and I remove the drain plug from the transmission pan and drain about 5.5qts out and replace it with Valvoline SYN fluid , I feel that even though it's not a complete drain, it will still extend the life of the transmission. I was wondering what's your opinion and anything you have done for your transmission. BIG FAN. CHUCK, RIDGEVILLE S.C.
*You never cease to amazed me* Thank you Charles I did drop my tranny pan and changed out the fluid AND filter awhile ago but that was before Joanie was my camera person. To hard to do everything by myself back then. So no video on that. Will do one though when I do it again. Needs to be done every 30K miles. But your right, a lot of that fluid stays in the torque converter. You can do partial fluid changes to replace about 90% of it. Each drain will remove about 7qts. of fluid. Do these partials 3x's. But that still leaves the filter that needs to be done. Manual says doesn't need to be changed until 100K miles. I disagree.
Did 6 mo. oil change on the F53 this week. Love that Fumoto valve- makes it so easy! Did the genny maintenance (oil, filter and spark arrestor) about 4 weeks ago.
What your channel has showed me is that full time or probably 1/4 time in an Rv is not for me. To much work to keep the rig road ready. If I was 20 years younger maybe. I did all my camping when my children were young & never needed reservations & Rvs were a lot easier to maintain, just like cars. What does it cost you to stay in Maine & Texas each year?
Hi Bill, Ya for sure, RVing isn't for everybody for reasons other than the upkeep. As far as cost from TX to ME and back, it's not much b/c we have camp ground memberships we use so no fees there, once in ME we stay @ both Joanie's brothers properties so no cost there. They both have a lot of property there. So it's basically the cost of gas @ 6K miles x the average price per gal. @ 7.3mpg = $$$$$ It's beautiful going up to ME and ME itself IMO is just a stunning state. EDIT: Ya know Bill, I thought about your comment all day yesterday which was *To much work to keep the rig road ready.* As I thought about it-probably like you-I've owned several homes in my life and I was always having to do something to keep it up. Mow the grass every week, take care of the garden and flowers, fix the fence, build shelves, fix a water leak, redo the walk way, clean the windows, clean the pool, do some painting, power wash the drive way and sidewalks, do this, do that.....I mean it was always something. And I had a garage full of stuff and tools to do it all. Now fast forward..... Everything I own is in my RV. Major downsizing. I don't have all the house chores and yard work to do and a garage full of stuff to take care of it all. Getting out from under the house and all those responsibilities-for me-was liberating. Working on or maintaining the RV is a labor of love with me. It's a whole lot easier than taking care of a house. Oh....all those taxesI used to pay.....there gone and the RV is cheaper to maintain too. But again I understand what you're saying. RVing isn't for everybody but I wish Joanie & I had done this lifestyle long time ago.

Ya I show how to keep the water out in the video. Just use a thick large towel, fold it in half and place it down in the hole. Joanie also places another towel down below inside on the floor JIC some water gets by. I have a bin of old towels I carry with me. Once the rinsing is done, I take that same towel and clean up all around the AC pan area and so forth.
I use Word to log all my maintenance on my RV Travel Trailer. I also use a 3 ring binder with plastic sleeves to insert my sheet of paper with how to replace or repair items on the trailer for future reference. keep track of when refill propane or recertify the tanks, I have exploded views on paper of the brake assemblies and their part # so when I need a new part I look up the # and order it. I have electrical schematics & diagrams of my fridge, furnace, water heater for troubleshooting, its my on hand maintenance log when I travel. Thanks Martin for all how to videos.

Thanks Martin! Your motorhome will last forever with all your maintenance. I wish I could change my oil but our winter retreat in Yuma Arizona is not big on do it yourself rig maintenance. One item you didn’t mention was defrosting the fridge. We do that every quarter religiously.
I've done a lot of extra things on our Norcold fridge and don't have that problem much. Probably once a year. I plan on doing a video on that, I just haven't got around to it but I need to.

Hey John, It's funny you asked this question b/c I just replaced them this past July in Maine. Here are my complete notes on those replacements: 7-17-2021 • FINALLY found wiper blades that work from NAPA but I had to modify the Trico Universal bracket some. I had to clip off some the front plastic ears and then use my Dremel Tool and grind smooth the two flat areas on the backside. I also had to open up the metal wiper “J” mount itself on the wiper assembly about 1/8”. It was just a little to tight for any wiper blade to work and I had to file the “J” part too, just a little bit to allow it to slide into the universal bracket. Now all I have to do in the future is buy replacement blades. So glad I finally fixed this problem. I really need to a video on this because so many people have a problem finding replacement blades for these kind of Class A RV’s. NAPA Wiper Blades = 28”, Part#: 35-280 which are the Trico ICE Extreme Winter Weather Blade $19.99ea.
@@RVstreet Yeah I bought some from walmart that are the 32" But I do like them.. they seem cheaply made even though they cost about 50 dollars for the pair. I wasn't sure about the Trico brand. Etrailer has some that cost 80 dollars a pair.
@@johnhowell5969 Ya I don't know about your wipers, but mine are the large "J" hook type. None of the so called "forum suggested blades" worked. including Walmart. I wasn't so concerned about length. My problem was attaching any blade to the metal arms. So I finally went to NAPA with an old blade and the measurements of my "J" hook along with a picture. The lady there was so nice and she dragged out about 8 pairs of blades and a half dozen different types of universal adapters. We finally chose the Trico one that was the closest to fit right fit. When I got home I still needed to do a little extra work to make them attach right. BUT....it's done now and going forward I'll just just buy these NAPA Wiper Blades = 28”, Part#: 35-280 which are the Trico ICE Extreme Winter.
Yo brother man Martin. I'm just curious about something? On a couple of your videos " water bay setup & generator maintenance " you have a pair of vice-grips on your bay door gas struts rods. Have you replaced those gas struts yet? Really want to know if you. Lol. Have you ever done a detailed video on a complete flush of your transmission - power steering pump - brake master cylinder & lines and hydraulic leveling jacks and tank?. I've never seen it before. Still I would love to see a video of how to adjust your slide-outs if needed. Well I just left Apache Junction, Arizona and headed back to Florida for some personal business then up northwards. • I hated the factory door latch on my wet bay. It would always slip out of the door and would come down and hit me in the head. There wasn't room to install 2 gas struts so I just installed one. If it's windy-the door will come down, so I just keep that vice grip right there in the bay. • I did drop the tranny pan and changed out the fluid and filter but that was before Joanie was my camera person. To hard to do everything by myself. So no....no video on that. Will do one though when I do it again. I had a shop do a once over & replace tires, but, have been plugging away at repairs & upgrades myself ever since. Just did your roof series a couple weeks ago. I also did the generator right before that. I appreciate you and all you put into these videos and for the great information you provide. Next up is leveling jacks as one has issues…. Grate job Martin. Point #12 was about the A/C just to add since that is what I do for a living. Is the cleaner you have the evaporator and the condenser the more efficient the unit is. All you are doing with a/c is removing the heat from the unit and the humidity so the cleaner you have it the better. I am looking to get a class C unit soon so I am watching your videos so I can hit the ground running thank you.
Not sure I understand your question totally but cleaning the evap coil allows maximum air flow thereby making the AC unit much more efficient, cool better and work less.

2) On the generator: Mobil 1 does make a 0W-30 oil but is very hard to find and usually more expensive. But besides that, the generator is a different kind of engine. It's a high rev engine that is air cooled and runs hot b/c of it being enclosed. So I want a more "stout" oil for that application. Royal Purple could be considered a racing oil like Lucas oil.

SIDE NOTE: On my small portable Honda generator the manual clearly states to run regular oil in it for the first 20hrs., but after that I can switch to synthetic, which I will do and also use Mobil 1.
Did roof joint inspection on our 2016 Adventurer 38Q this AM. Found 10 ft of bad joint adhesive/sealant. Removed old adhesive/sealant, cleaned with mineral spirits applied 1 tube for 10'ft of joint using the remaining tube of Geo Proflex (never again). Will not use it again. Will likely use what Martin recommended for future joint repairs as I have not had good results with the Proflex in use or its ability to hold up. Starting to wonder if I can do this maintenance item much longer at my age on belly on roof for 2 hours feeling unstable in the morning heat and humidity. Wish Bago had found another method of securing the Filon roof that didn't require this much attention
We haven’t yet bought the RV we are looking at, but have been watching a few different RV YT channels….some for entertainment, and others for educational benefits. I started watching , and have subscribed to your channel. When I first started watching your channel, I thought to myself, “man, this guy is OCD and wayyyy overboard on maintenance.” However, after watching more and more of your videos, I was rethinking my original assessment. Yes, you do a LOT more maintenance and a lot more minute and detailed maintenance that nobody else ever even mentions. After seeing the age of your MH, your diligence and hard work appears to pay off, as you keep your motorhome and all of its components in excellent condition, and do the best you can to hopefully minimize your problems. Keep up the great work and the great videos! You’ve made me think of maintenance items that I would have never even thought of.

Had local mechanic change transmission, brake, coolant and differential fluids.......this weekend will hit the rest of items on this video......thank again .....

Hello Martin, Rookie Class A'er here. Got 2005 Winnebago Itaska 8.1. Crossed my motor battery terminals . No visual damage, replaced some fuses. Now runs good, slides, lites, generator all work. But batteries now don't charge. Likely fault, alternator and or solenoid?

Are you talking about your house batteries or your (1) chassis battery?
Martin I was shocked and felt like I had my friend give me the bad news. Now I’m 77 and was a policeman as my main occupation. Well I live in Alabama and have a friend who’s son in law got cancer about 5 years ago and was told he had 6 months to live. Well he researched his issue and found that if you take a certain dog dewormer. You probably think I’m nuts but he’s still living today. Another friend is promoting this drug and he convinced his friend to take it. It resulted with a reduction of his tumors. It’s not very expensive and if it works all the better. I don’t know the name of the dog dewormer. At worst you won’t have worms. I thought they were nuts but everyone I know that tried this, it helped. Doesn’t cure you but it slows it down. When I get in touch with my friend I’ll send you the name. I just want to thank for all you’ve done for us. God bless y’all
I'm sad to say that Martin lost his battle with cancer last year. By the time he was diagnosed his body was full of cancer and he passed a few short months later.💔
So sad he passed away. He was a great teacher of RV maintenance and repair.

Oh....I find them in all kinds of places. Convenience stores, flea markets, boutiques in some of the towns we visit, found a real kewl one in Walmart, and one at a Amish farmers market in PA. I'm always on the hunt for another bandana.
Fell behind on maintenance due to weather, grandkids and a bad cold. Got an awful lot to catch up on. Wash, Rejex, chassis lube, generator maintenance and genny oil change, roof wall joint are next on the list. It kinda hurts thinking of all I have to get done! I guess I am ancient in my approach to logging my maintenance (I use chisel, hammer and stone LOL). I use a hand written journal. I used to use the Ford Motor company customer maintenance web log for the F53 then one day it just quit leaving me high and dry with all my data. I guess Ford had a better idea on what to do with their web space. The journal/notebook is clunky and as I age my writing is getting bad, but its handy and it works. Like you I add a lot of good stuff to supplement my memory. Probably need to migrate to WORD.

All your comments on spreadsheets seem a bit off base to me. You can do everything you do in InDesign in Excel or Google Sheets. On the other hand I don't think your log method would be helped by them. Spreadsheets provide other options like a reminder field to redo something. I'm still forming my methods so I can't offer much, but I'd like to hear about your software contact.
Well *ALL My COMMENTS* on using spreadsheets was basically one comment. It doesn't fit *MY* wheel house. PLUS, like I said, I don't want to buy another piece of software. I have to many programs to keep updated now. But if it fits others needs that's kewl with me. I know my RV so well that I personally don't need reminders of when to do stuff, but others may like that feature.
Like I said in the video, once my software contact that's reworking their online maintenance program launches, I'll post that info in my Community Tab. So be sure to watch for that.

As far as preventing, detecting and repairing leaks I've kinda covered detecting leaks in many videos. But if you use your water pump often like I do-if you have a leak-you'll know it immediately by the way the water pump acts. Other than that I don't use or have water detection systems or sensors, Not needed. As far as fixing a leak, I just did a video on that but it won't go public till July 23rd. So stay tuned for that 🔧

I've been binge watching since I found your channel yesterday. Great information! I have a suggestion that will prevent your out of focus problem you had in some of the scenes (#'s 7-13). Once you sit in front of the camera and establish focus have your wife switch the camera to manual focus. This locks the focus and prevents the camera from focusing on anything other than your face. I used this method every time I had a static scene when I was a photographer by profession.

My protective arm bands are simply long black tube socks I buy @ Walmart and then cut them off at the heel. I wear them EVERY TIME I work on anything.

I have a fifth wheel, when I purchased it there was not an operational or suggested service manual included. My most immediate question is about my hydraulics. I have no idea how much fluid it requires, whether you check the level with the slides in or out and for matter what kind of hydraulic fluid do you use to top it off. I attempted to find the answers to these questions on Lipperts site with no luck so I am hoping that maybe you could steer me in the right direction. Thanks again, Lee

The reservoir for your leveling jacks and slide levels should be checked with either jacks up or slides in.
If you can't find out the info on LIppert's website call or email them with your specific info of your system.
And, you need to get the manual for those systems from them. Ask for a link so you can download it.

Martin, I have a no start situation with my Onan 5500 Marquis. I push the prime side of the stater button can hear the fuel pump priming, then try to start. I get nothing! No solenoid clicking, NOTHING! Do you have any recommendations? Also, where is the solenoid located. The age of my motorhome is a 2006 Georgie Boy 35'. Thanks for all you do and for your service.
Check your electrical connections to the left of the starter button and especially your house batteries. It sounds like your house batteries are to low. Put a load test on them and check load with a multi-meter.
I like what you're trying to do but I disagree with you. It depends on how a camper is used and how it was built to begin with. We have an awesome camper that would become a maintenance nightmare if we travelled much but if we park it in a nice spot it lasts longer. If we want to tour the country we would just rent a class C.
Whether you sit still permanently or travel, there are many things I covered every RVer should be doing every year. So, I'm curious what you disagree with. Was it:
• Wash the RV, add RejeX to protect it
• Clean electrical connections, transfer switch and main breaker panel
• Greasing areas that require that
• Service water heater
• Sanitize fresh water tank
• Clean & Condition rubber stuff
• Lube hinges, locks and items in the engine bay
• Cleaning vents and vent covers
• Clean AC units
• Clean and lube steps
• Tap fire extinguishers for safety
• Maintenance logs
@@RVstreet The only thing I disagree about is the whole idea of owning most campers unless you park it. If you travel much they become a maintenance nightmare. Very few people think doing all that maintenance is any fun at all. You seem to like it. You are in the minority.

If you want to own an RV and just park it that's kewl. But even in that case you still have to take care of it or it will die a slow death. Like anything else in life.
Most people who buy an RV want to be able to travel-either a little, now and then or full time-and they want to have a self contained mobile home of sorts, and enjoy different places. Not sit still.
Maintenance isn't supposed to be a fun activity but it is a responsible fact of life that revolves around everything about how we live. Maintenance is required in owning a home, a car, your finances, your career path, relationships, raising kids and so on. Everything in our lives requires some sort of maintenance and attention.
I can tell you and I aren't on the same path or wave length and that's kewl. But... I certainly am not in the minority when it comes to maintaining an RV and the importance of it. It just boils down to this....if you want to have fun and travel there is some work involved. Either you do it or you don't. If you don't do it, then yes...life in an RV can become a nightmare because of neglect. It's just the way life is.

Hi Martin, You never cease to amazed me , great info, I have a 2015 Fleetwood Bounder classic 34B, I have started to change part of my transmission fluid at my oil changes. I have a 5 at plastic measuring pitcher and I remove the drain plug from the transmission pan and drain about 5.5qts out and replace it with Valvoline SYN fluid , I feel that even though it's not a complete drain, it will still extend the life of the transmission. I was wondering what's your opinion and anything you have done for your transmission. BIG FAN. CHUCK, RIDGEVILLE S.C.

I did drop my tranny pan and changed out the fluid AND filter awhile ago but that was before Joanie was my camera person. To hard to do everything by myself back then. So no video on that. Will do one though when I do it again. Needs to be done every 30K miles.
But your right, a lot of that fluid stays in the torque converter. You can do partial fluid changes to replace about 90% of it. Each drain will remove about 7qts. of fluid. Do these partials 3x's. But that still leaves the filter that needs to be done. Manual says doesn't need to be changed until 100K miles. I disagree.
What in the world is rejex?
It's better than wax. Protects against harmful UV rays which is what oxidizes the RV.

Did 6 mo. oil change on the F53 this week. Love that Fumoto valve- makes it so easy! Did the genny maintenance (oil, filter and spark arrestor) about 4 weeks ago.

showed me is that full time or probably 1/4 time in an Rv is not for me.
To much work to keep the rig road ready. If I was 20 years younger maybe.
I did all my camping when my children were young & never needed reservations & Rvs were a lot easier to maintain, just like cars.

Ya for sure, RVing isn't for everybody for reasons other than the upkeep.
As far as cost from TX to ME and back, it's not much b/c we have camp ground memberships we use so no fees there, once in ME we stay @ both Joanie's brothers properties so no cost there. They both have a lot of property there. So it's basically the cost of gas @ 6K miles x the average price per gal. @ 7.3mpg = $$$$$
It's beautiful going up to ME and ME itself IMO is just a stunning state.

As I thought about it-probably like you-I've owned several homes in my life and I was always having to do something to keep it up. Mow the grass every week, take care of the garden and flowers, fix the fence, build shelves, fix a water leak, redo the walk way, clean the windows, clean the pool, do some painting, power wash the drive way and sidewalks, do this, do that.....I mean it was always something. And I had a garage full of stuff and tools to do it all.
Now fast forward.....
Everything I own is in my RV. Major downsizing. I don't have all the house chores and yard work to do and a garage full of stuff to take care of it all. Getting out from under the house and all those responsibilities-for me-was liberating. Working on or maintaining the RV is a labor of love with me. It's a whole lot easier than taking care of a house. Oh....all those taxesI used to pay.....there gone and the RV is cheaper to maintain too.
But again I understand what you're saying. RVing isn't for everybody but I wish Joanie & I had done this lifestyle long time ago.

Ya I show how to keep the water out in the video. Just use a thick large towel, fold it in half and place it down in the hole. Joanie also places another towel down below inside on the floor JIC some water gets by. I have a bin of old towels I carry with me. Once the rinsing is done, I take that same towel and clean up all around the AC pan area and so forth.
I use Word to log all my maintenance on my RV Travel Trailer. I also use a 3 ring binder with plastic sleeves to insert my sheet of paper with how to replace or repair items on the trailer for future reference. keep track of when refill propane or recertify the tanks, I have exploded views on paper of the brake assemblies and their part # so when I need a new part I look up the # and order it. I have electrical schematics & diagrams of my fridge, furnace, water heater for troubleshooting, its my on hand maintenance log when I travel. Thanks Martin for all how to videos.

Thanks Martin! Your motorhome will last forever with all your maintenance. I wish I could change my oil but our winter retreat in Yuma Arizona is not big on do it yourself rig maintenance. One item you didn’t mention was defrosting the fridge. We do that every quarter religiously.
I've done a lot of extra things on our Norcold fridge and don't have that problem much. Probably once a year. I plan on doing a video on that, I just haven't got around to it but I need to.
I just have a simple notebook to keep track of everything I do. Maybe that is old fashioned

It's funny you asked this question b/c I just replaced them this past July in Maine. Here are my complete notes on those replacements:

• FINALLY found wiper blades that work from NAPA but I had to modify the Trico Universal bracket some. I had to clip off some the front plastic ears and then use my Dremel Tool and grind smooth the two flat areas on the backside. I also had to open up the metal wiper “J” mount itself on the wiper assembly about 1/8”. It was just a little to tight for any wiper blade to work and I had to file the “J” part too, just a little bit to allow it to slide into the universal bracket. Now all I have to do in the future is buy replacement blades. So glad I finally fixed this problem. I really need to a video on this because so many people have a problem finding replacement blades for these kind of Class A RV’s.

@@RVstreet Yeah I bought some from walmart that are the 32" But I do like them.. they seem cheaply made even though they cost about 50 dollars for the pair. I wasn't sure about the Trico brand. Etrailer has some that cost 80 dollars a pair.

I wasn't so concerned about length. My problem was attaching any blade to the metal arms. So I finally went to NAPA with an old blade and the measurements of my "J" hook along with a picture. The lady there was so nice and she dragged out about 8 pairs of blades and a half dozen different types of universal adapters. We finally chose the Trico one that was the closest to fit right fit. When I got home I still needed to do a little extra work to make them attach right. BUT....it's done now and going forward I'll just just buy these NAPA Wiper Blades = 28”, Part#: 35-280 which are the Trico ICE Extreme Winter.
Yo brother man Martin. I'm just curious about something? On a couple of your videos " water bay setup & generator maintenance " you have a pair of vice-grips on your bay door gas struts rods. Have you replaced those gas struts yet? Really want to know if you. Lol. Have you ever done a detailed video on a complete flush of your transmission - power steering pump - brake master cylinder & lines and hydraulic leveling jacks and tank?. I've never seen it before. Still I would love to see a video of how to adjust your slide-outs if needed. Well I just left Apache Junction, Arizona and headed back to Florida for some personal business then up northwards. • I hated the factory door latch on my wet bay. It would always slip out of the door and would come down and hit me in the head. There wasn't room to install 2 gas struts so I just installed one. If it's windy-the door will come down, so I just keep that vice grip right there in the bay.

* No adjustments needed on slides. That's one thing you don't want to be jacking with if they're working fine. To many models and style of slides to cover that subject. However......I have been researching a systemic problem with Power Gear Slide systems and especially on full wall slides. I'm thinking of maybe doing a video on that in the future. Well see.

Is the cleaner you have the evaporator and the condenser the more efficient the unit is. All you are doing with a/c is removing the heat from the unit and the humidity so the cleaner you have it the better. I am looking to get a class C unit soon so I am watching your videos so I can hit the ground running thank you.
Not sure I understand your question totally but cleaning the evap coil allows maximum air flow thereby making the AC unit much more efficient, cool better and work less.
The object is to remove heat so the cleaner the coils the better the heat transfer. So you are right telling people to clean the coils good job
