Kia Joorabchian: why I spent millions at Tattersalls this week - Luck On Sunday

- Football agent and leading racehorse owner Kia Joorabchian enjoyed a huge spending spree at Tattersalls this week, and on the the opening day of the October yearling sale (book one) in Newmarket he spent more than £11million on bloodstock, which included a youngster he purchased for £4.4m guineas.
His new purchases will run under the Amo Racing banner and Kia spoke to Nick Luck on Luck On Sunday about the reasons behind his purchases plus future plans and ambitions.

He has the right idea but he will need to spend millions at every sale for the next twenty years. The top Coolmore / Godolphin /Juddmonte pedigrees never get near a sale. The homebred horses which are currently racing have been developed by careful breeding over the past 40 years, When Vincent O'Brien started going to Keenland in the 1970's the attitude was buy all the top yearlings. This was the start of Coolmore
He's trying to go against established organisations that have been in the game for many years and produced the stallions that they are buying from.
You can trust him, he's a former football agent...
Ambitious optimism, apart from the fact that of course... to compete with Coolmore one needs an Aidan O'brien, and unfortunately they don't make them like him no more💀

All you need is one good horse at a cost of 20k and take it to Wolverhampton at 830pm on a cold wet night and win at 50/1 then do it again twice in a year that will give you a nice living oh put a nice little apprentice on it for her Xmas bonus while all the top jockeys are abroad. Easy game.
He doesn’t have his own stallions ready yet so he’ll want to create one in the next 5 years to get his/their money back. Wonder how king of steel is doing. Egan will be licking his lips for his new mounts lol

@@davidsmyth4184: Just what I was thinking 😂 If he thinks he's going to be able to go up against & better Coolmore, Godolphin, Aga Khan & Juddmonte what Prince Kalid Abdullah managed to build in just 40 years is over incredible, Juddmonte have over taken the Aga Khan who's been in the racing scene for 176,000 years 😂 This dude will be in the shadows for a long time.
Is nobody going to question this guy where the money is coming from? Or does the racing authorities even care? He’s got some dangerous people backing him.. but I mean godolphins owner captured and tortured his own daughter..

it should not be up to individuals to counter act against the big powers, it should the BHA, the jockey club, to limit horses in training and limit the actual sales price of the yearlings. UK racing is just in a sambles. Look at France how owners actually get benefits and price money is very good. Kia idea is interesting, but in long run it is damaging to the sport. the punter in UK has no change of wining, and when he does his account gets closed. Horse racing should be regulated properly and not run by the bookmakers.
@mastercann7168 I think you are muddling day to day racing and bloodstock. What do you hope to achieve by capping yearling prices? Do you then cap the future sales price for horses in training?
Racing does have issues clearly, but capping bloodstock prices isn't the way forward. It is like trying to cap professional sportsman's transfer fees. The sums seem eye watering, but if these foundation pedigrees allow a stud to thrive and employ people, then it's a sound investment. These horses are bought to race, but the fillies at the top end, are bought to breed from. Only circa 50% of last years book 1 catalogue have seen a racecourse.
You are kidding, UK Government struggle to find one million to 🎉support, an industry that has to offer that amount for one race!

Has he any idea howcmany horses and bloodlines in the Godolphin stable, they have thousands of horses.
The top horses are very hard to find, you can spend a lot of money and never find one
