  • this is a quick review of the Harbor Freight worm drive winch . I am not actually using it for its intended purpose . I will be using it to build a homemade rotary tumbler and have a video of that up soon .

    Bought one to use to hoist walls (max. 300 - 400 lbs) and the shear pin broke on the second wall. Thank you for this video. Now I know how to fix
    emedy the play in the worm gear and add a new shear pin.

    May I suggest a Dutton-Lainson worm drive winch with a hex drive handle... not only is it a superior winch, but the hex drive makes it easy to power it with any hand drill

    Hi Marilyn Alvarez yes it should handle 80 lbs with no problem. However as with any equipment Be safe . And especially don't use it to hold something up to work underneath it.

      Donald Sexton I got a previous model holding my truck bed up right now using two pulleys. I had one pulley come off dropping the bed a few feet and the wench held just fine even though being a previous model it had bad gear mesh and didn't have the extra support rod beside the worm gear. It's been holding the bed up for 5-6 months now. I do agree to use caution when using any winch but this model is more than capable of 80lbs+.

    The instruction booklet shows three ways of cable run and two setup orientations, wonder which is best. About your comment about lift capacity, this winch is specificly NOT for lifting, the rated limit is for pulling not lifting.

      Thank you Sherman Hofacker you make a fair point. However a true 2000 pounds worth of strain is 2000 pounds worth of strain. It doesn't matter if its because of friction or because of gravity.

    It takes six months to wind that entire cable up using the handle so I suggest using a drill to wind it on before attaching the handle.

    Thank you for showing this winch, I was wanting a small winch like this to pull up my 80 lbs. recreational scooter, would this work? I don't need anything huge, in fact the smaller the better, like I said, it's only 80 lbs., again thank you.

    I have one does it have a neutral setting cuz its a pain to unwind then wind in

      unfortunately it doesn't . The best you could do is make a socket drive for a drill to speed up the unwind that's about it.

    Is this reversible? Also do you know the gear ratio? The website does not have the correct info

    • @d.s.playlist6146
      @d.s.playlist6146 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it is reversible . but you can't unlock the drum for free spooling which is a bit of a draw back with this style of winch. Unfortunately I don't know the gear ratio .

      @@d.s.playlist6146 Finally found it, 40:1. I'm actually going to use this to turn a meat grinder with a big drill, so won't need a freespool, but the ability to reverse would be handy.

    You should’ve put it together and pull something that’s 2000 pounds

      Jacob Novac perhaps someday I will do a followup on this video and try your suggestion. It is worth mentioning that there is a difference between pulling 2000 pounds and Lifting 2000 pounds.

    Does that winch has a reverse mode?

    • @my1987toyota
      @my1987toyota  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please don't take this as sarcasm. Turn the handle the opposite direction for reverse . it's a very basic setup.

    Hello, I'm new to your site and have a question?
    What makes you an expert on this Winch?
    You would think an expert would use a Tripod
    when making a Video when 2 hands are needed.
    Liked your Video.
