    Absolutely brilliant best railway in the UK by far in my opinion awesome scale and details love the rolling stock too they look better than the ones that have done and don't look to scale with the locomotive. I can only imagine the price of them my granddad use to build them in 3 1/2" gauge as I was the only grandchild interested I inherited them all witch I have gate pleasure in steaming them in the garden on a rolling road he use to test them on. Loved your video brought back some great memories thank you

    Absolutely fantastic. Looks great. And the scale sheds are brilliant.
    Just one question... How much do these locomotives cost.? Say, a 'pacific', for example.! Thanks.

      For the large locos such as a Pacific type locomotive, You're looking at over £10,000.

      Australia has several steam trains that operate and there is even a annual steam locomotive race. Looks very fun you should look into all the steam events there if you like steam trains.

    A few questions....
    1) If I wanted to buy a loco, say the Black Prince, how much would it cost?
    2) Where do you get them, and the track, from?
    3) From cold (on an average day) how long does it take to get them running?

    • @steamingspud
      @steamingspud 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1) The Black Prince might cost anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 pounds. Smaller engines with less features and detail cost less. It is far cheaper to build one from castings or scratch.
      2) Discoverlivesteam.com has used locomotives for sale and advertises most suppliers for all live steam models. Forums for live steam are a great place to get involved and have sales pages as well. There are club tracks that you can become a member of and bring your engine to run it. Laying track is extremely involved, expensive, and takes many hands.
      3) Depends on the engine. A coal fired 4-8-4 might takes hours along with lubricating the parts. A gas fired switcher might steam very quickly.

    Has this Railway now had to close for the land to be redeveloped? If so where did all the track etc go?

  • @paulw.woodring7304

    Why is the track laid on solid concrete or stone instead of stone ballast? It seems to work just fine, but I've never seen that kind of right-of-way before.

      I'm sure there's lots of considerations. What jumps into my mind is concrete will have higher first cost and lower maintenance costs.

      It's the Garden and Woodland Railway. The sign on the Bridge at 4:53 is a bit of a give away haha
