Virginia is a great example of what religion does to idiots. Changing the goal posts and not even knowing what she did makes me feel so much smarter than I know I am.
Christianity and most prescriptive religions suit a lot of people.....they are not idiots per se......but religion allows them to abjugate the need to actually have to think too much. It is easier to say 'because the Bible, God, Jesus, Paul (as he is the real messiah of the christian religion) says' rather than questioning, researching and coming up with your own opinion. Most humans critise other people behaving like sheep but then 'flock' to dictatorial systems that has them behaving like sheep....ie formulated and prescriptive religions.
I'd say that religion makes the idiot, then keeps feeding it. Virginia was likely turned into an idiot by her parents, or by some life trauma that drove her to seek explanation for the randomness of the universe.
The ability of theists literally reading out definitions word-by-word, over and over again, while completely ignoring the fact that it does not in any way support their claim and then calling someone "insane" after they just said they would kill a group of people if a voice in their head told them to is actually a talent at this point
@@user-gk9lg5sp4y You do understand that ancient cultures were separated from other ancient cultures by thousands of miles when all the world's religions were being invented. Don't you? Pro forced birthers love to equate genocide with abortion, ignoring the fact that it is a false equivalence as the victims of a genocide are not infringing on the genocider's bodily autonomy. The same with slavery. They claim that abortion is like slavery which makes no sense as no one is forcing a fetus to do work without compensation. However forced birth is a form of slavery and was a way for slavers to naturally increase their stock of slaves, especially when importing slaves was banned in Europe and the US.
@josepheridu3322 -- She read out the defintion of genocide and lied that it refers to "group" which is not true. Its "ethnic group" which ethnicity emcompasses different denominations of ethnicity. (Like white latinos, or south asian vs "asian" meaning central asia.. or "germanic" germans versus jewish germans. Also, your jab at "no evidence of human rights exist!" Is a laugh and a half. Yes? So? You can measure the impact of human rights and their direct benefit socially, economically and morally. Social construct are like that.
Now I'm wondering what amount the USA let's in each day. And do they have to be in imminent danger or can they just be looking for a better job? If they're born before they are approved for a work visa or asylum status is that designation then moot because they are no longer part of the ethnic group? If there's genocide against all these poor fetuses, with so many of them already blind, deaf, mute, paralyzed, on feeding tubes, breathing tubes, iv blood, waste tubes, how will they ever get jobs and make something of their ethnic group?!?! We don’t steal moral systems from religion. Religion doesn’t have a a moral system to be stolen. “Obey me or suffer” Is not a moral system, that’s Fiat. The greatest trick religion ever pulled was tricking the world to think they invented morality.

We have a serious immigration problem from the Fetus Nation. They are entering our country by crossing the placenta barrier, without papers, or vetting. They are only after our jobs.
There are approximately 2,000 different gods and about 40,000 different Christian denominations in the world, with around 200 in the United States alone. It seems to me that a god is as unique to each person as their mind can perceive. I believe this is why the American founding fathers saw it fit to establish a separation between religion and government.
the fact that she has to convince herself that there were NO TODDLERS in an entire given population is mad... also, saying someone is immoral on grounds of a controversial subject due to your own beliefs doesn't magickally make your god innocent of being a monster.
I was really wondering where she was going with that one. Like god aborts fetiluses and straight up deds kids every second of every day. Even if I was a crazy murderous atheist who wants to abort as many souls as possible I'd still always be a distant second to the almighty himself.
Divine command is subjective morality, not objective morality. God is the subject and its not even a practice of morality. It's doing what you're told.
Morality where someone else says tells you what to do and you obey regardless if your actions are objectively evil, is shallow morality. The morality of a child. Morality where you think it through and decide what is right or wrong and why and do that even though your “superiors” tell you something else is the deepest morality. The morality of an adult.
What the caller did is called "Deflection". She was caught being okay with Genocide (if God says so). Then realized how bad that sounds an deflected to abortion. Weak and sad.
I'm sorry for an unrelated comment regarding the topic, it's just I can't help myself saying it out loud: seeing a new (ridiculously hot, literate & articulated) face on the line made my day. Let alone when I consider the fact I follow the channel mainly for its comedic effect: hearing Will talking to this kind of a brainwashed person is a treasure.
This woman is an authoritarian. The notion that any person has the authority to order the systematic killing of an entire group of people is insane to me. She’s a deeply gross and unpleasant person.
A PARTICULAR NATION OR ETHNIC GROUP. When Will perked up as she slowly read that, and she just...didn't even give that bit an ounce of thought. She heard group and went "This supports my arguement."
Wow Wow Wow.... How the caller goes from if God want's genocide it's okay, but abortion is unjust genocide. I agree with Will, the caller really needs to sit down and study/understand what the word means.
All either host had to do was say "god said it was okay to get an abortion". She would snap back "hur dur, how, did you talk with god?" And you just gotta say yes. No proof needed. God set forth the situation and made it so she wanted an abortion. Or pose the question that god wants abortions, he killed off humanity before so why not? Youd have to be /arrogant/ to think you understand god...
LOL! You're right! Will should have reminded her that her Bible forbids her from telling a man what to do! Her Bible would have had her sitting meekly and quietly while Will explained to her what genocide means and then what ethnic and national groups are.
Is her husband making her call back this time when the big meanie isn't on? She's still dishonest like Matt said, to the point where she couldn't even recap Shannon's deconversion story without making her sound like she stopped believing because she was mad at god or whatever. Just saying nonsense she's been fed. Not an independent thought in that head.
21:46 "if God is almighty then wouldn't whatever he does be right?" Absolutely not! Morality isn't based on might. WTF? Does everything a king does automatically become moral and right simply because he's king?
I am a 69 year old life-long atheist. By the time I was exposed to the god notion in kindergarten I had long since figured out that Santa & the Easter Bunny were my parents. When other kids talked about God I didn't have a clue what they were talking about because it made no sense at all. Such things were clearly imaginary. If Santa and the Easter Bunny were not objectively real then a massively powerful deity was just ridiculous. I am now an apistevist gnostic atheist because our studies of the quantum realm show that there is no energy available for anything 'supernatural' to work with, and no way for such notions to avoid detection if they were objectively real.
James Madison, coming out of the Constitutional Convention, wrote a letter to Thomas Jefferson discussing the constitutional proposal. He addressed the idea that religion would be some sort of aide to civic virtue. He said: "Religion. The inefficacy of this restraint on individuals is well known. The conduct of every popular Assembly, acting on oath, the strongest of religious ties, shews that individuals join without remorse in acts agst. which their consciences would revolt, if proposed to them separately in their closets." People will do anything in the name of relgion. It's not a moral or ethical restraint on anyone.
I actually think Virginia is in some kind of negative relationship with the guy who's present when she calls in. He seems to be putting her up to this and hovering over her when she calls, and I almost feel like letting her call might be enabling some kind of abuse.
"What's the definition of genocide then?" "It's not my responsibility to educate you, but..." - provides an accurate definition of genocide. "Well since you refused to provide a definition of it, I looked it up, and..." - provides the same definition and tries to twist it to mean something else. Now the real question is... has anyone ever had an abortion with the specific intent of preventing everyone else from having children ever again? Because if not... doesn't meet the terms of her definition even if you accept her attempt to skip over the "nation or ethnic group" part of the definition she was quoting.
One heartbeat feeding the stream of oxygenated blood cells into the other, until it reaches a point of independence Just like our fetus forefathers intended.
It's weird that this caller makes such a big deal about abortion, when based on what she's admitted, if God commanded people to perform abortions she'd consider it moral.
One of my favorite things to poke theists with is the real ten commandments, the ones laid out in Exodus 34 11-28, the ones that were placed in the arc of the covenant. If they tell me to read the bible, I say "OK, lets read the book of Numbers out loud together in one sitting." That book shows God as a petty, narcissistic, jealous, vindictive, and murderous bully.

I'm glad that you covered some of the contradictions in the Bible. During my deconversion process I compiled a list of them, not to disprove the Bible, but to look for ways to explain them. In the end I had something like 30 or 40 different contradictions that I noticed personally, and in the years following other people pointed out more. There were things like jehoiachin becoming king at both age 8 and age 18, or Judas buying the same field with the same money that the chief priests also bought it with after he apparently returned the money to them, or Paul's friends both hearing and not hearing the voice of God speak to Paul. The list goes on and on and on. Contradictions in the Bible were just one small part of why I stopped believing Christianity, but they were sort of a beginning point for me doubting what I had been taught.
@25:39 ...She refused to accept the flaw in this imaginary friend and choose to defend him ordering the killing of innocent kids and babies that are still learning about the world around them. How can they be wicked?!

It was truly painful when Virginoa read tge definition slowly abd still completely missed Will's point. It is even worse lnowing that she would be okay with atrocities if she were convinced her God commanded them.
We can hope that one day going to the store or doing something outside the house won't be as horrific & annoying as it currently is & it's bad enough to have to constantly be popping pills with edibles & a jack & coke or some other alcohol just to be able to get groceries without suffering as much due to 9 times out of 10 there's a stupid person who brought their poor decisions out without having the mistake properly dressed with ball gag & shock collar to make sure it doesn't disturb others that were intelligent enough to know there's no reason for anyone to ever breed
For a long time I too thought the issue was bad translations. That is the exact reason I went to Seminary... to focus on the original texts (I did not know about us not have any of them). I focused on koine Greek. The contradictions did not come from the text being mistranslated; they are in the manuscripts themselves.
I'll never forget this one theist who told me that the main reason he believed in god is because the Bible explains so much of what life is and what our purpose as humans is. This always struck me as odd, because most theists that I've spoken to see god as a thinking agent, similar to humans. And yet, if an alien asked for evidence that humans exist, we wouldn't reference a book and bring up certain questions that it supposedly answers. I just don't understand how it makes sense to go from "the Bible makes sense and answers many questions I have about life" to "God exists". I could write a book right now that explains many questions people have about life, and I could begin it all be asserting that unicorns exist. And yet something tells me that theists would suddenly understand that just because my book has what some consider to be good answers to hard questions, that doesn't automatically make its claim about the existence of unicorns true. So I have no idea why critical thinking suddenly goes out the window when it comes to god.
"Are you saying that people who are wicked should have the right to live?" YES!!! It is what it means to be for rehabilitation and redemption. To be for making amends for the harm you have caused. To NOT be for retribution and vengeance.

She moved the goalposts and still missed.

The ability of theists literally reading out definitions word-by-word, over and over again, while completely ignoring the fact that it does not in any way support their claim and then calling someone "insane" after they just said they would kill a group of people if a voice in their head told them to is actually a talent at this point

@@user-gk9lg5sp4yWhat a worthless comment. You may as well have just said “blah blah blah”.
@@user-gk9lg5sp4y You do understand that ancient cultures were separated from other ancient cultures by thousands of miles when all the world's religions were being invented. Don't you? In that sense, the correlation between genetics and religion is nothing more than background noise.

But god forcing miscarriages is "holy"

Or is it simply those in power pressing long established buttons when they want to do something insane and need justification
Speaking of Israel, so many Christians support Israel & the Jewish people, but then have to turn around and believe that "any" Jew out there who doesn't believe or accept Christ as their Messiah, rightfully deserves to go to Hell for eternity. They claim that the Jews are Gods "favorite people" yet only the Messianic Jews will make it through the pearly gates to Heaven. All other Jews will go to Hell for not accepting "Jesus/Yeshua" as their Messiah, as well as the ones who are still awaiting their Messiah to come.....

All either host had to do was say "god said it was okay to get an abortion".
She would snap back "hur dur, how, did you talk with god?" And you just gotta say yes. No proof needed. God set forth the situation and made it so she wanted an abortion.

21:46 "if God is almighty then wouldn't whatever he does be right?"
Absolutely not!
The conduct of every popular Assembly, acting on oath, the strongest of religious ties, shews that individuals join without remorse in acts agst. which their consciences would revolt, if proposed to them separately in their closets."
People will do anything in the name of relgion. It's not a moral or ethical restraint on anyone.
I actually think Virginia is in some kind of negative relationship with the guy who's present when she calls in. He seems to be putting her up to this and hovering over her when she calls, and I almost feel like letting her call might be enabling some kind of abuse.
"What's the definition of genocide then?"
"It's not my responsibility to educate you, but..." - provides an accurate definition of genocide.

Critical thinking has to go out of the window for anyone to remain a theist.
