I had been putting off seeing this show because, y'know, money. BUT. When I found out this man was leaving in May? Boy, you know I scrounged up enough to hit a train to NYC to see one of his last performances because I was NOT missing this absolute ICON. I am sooooo glad I did. Incredible man, incredible talent.
I would also like to add, I made this comment before watching the whole video and did not put together the "Believe in Yourself" title...I'm officially in tears!!! Love The Wiz!
I saw Hadestown in April. I loved André so much! He brought so much life to Hermes and I can’t imagine anyone else playing him! I cried when I found out he was leaving Hadestown!
André really is a special talent!! He will definitely be missed, but I know Hadestown is in fabulous shape with everyone playing the role now and whoever will take over full time!!
I saw it in April too. Andre was such a star and absolutely amazing. It’s sad to see him go and it’s gonna be hard to picture anybody else capturing his same personality. But, whoever replaces him will surely be amazing as well.
I saw the show in February of ‘20 just before the shutdown. Cannot get over it. What an experience. A stunning night in the theatre. Andre de Shields is truly a legend.

It was hard to hold back the tears. What a beautiful sendoff to the legendary André De Shields.
