    • @steveaguinaga3821
      @steveaguinaga3821 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion.... Greg Judy has the best and only way that should be practiced. Maximizing soil health and productivity of grasses for foraging. Catching rain water directly into soil like a sponge with least runoff. While feeding and attracting wildlife. Requiring virtual no tractor work.. Tho i love tractors

      @hairymanonetwo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidhickenbottom6574 Greg Judy.....never talks about management of manured pasture lands ! A cow will not eat grass contaminated with manure ! Up to 2 years they will not touch that same area to eat the grass ! Imagine if you had manure beside your plate at dinner time ! He centers his videos only around " carbon" ( I call it organic farming ). He will never talk about the incorporation of fertilizer and with enough rain ( water ) a person can double the production of grass. That includes hay. Which he despises With rotational grazing and use of fertilizers.....hay making. Ive rotational grazed milk cows for over 40 years. Greg Judy is not misleading....just not being honest with himself !

    Many dairy farmers are using digesters to turn manure into RNG Renewable Natural Gas. It's transported by pipelines throughout the nation and thousands of truckers use it for fuel. UPS bought 170 million gallons last year. Municipalities are paying to dump sewage sludge in the digesters. This could be a revenue source for the farm or converted to electricity by numerous generators that run on natural gas and sold back to the electric company. Clean Energy Fuels is the largest seller of RNG in the USA with 504 stations located around the country. Their website has much information on the subject including videos.

    Very good! It's a reason why I always look forward to nice days in the winter time to find a nice, clean place out in the pasture, plus cows get good exercise too instead of being cooped up close to the shelters. Even if some places get more trash over the winter, going over with a light drag/harrow helps a lot to get it stirred up and spread thinner around the pastures better; that might be a cheaper/efficient alternative then having to use a spreader. Where there's a lot, hauling out manure with a spreader is the best way.

    You stated that each cow generates about 12 tons of poop per year. Let’s assume a steer does about the same.
    One steer yields about 1/4 ton of meat. So that means for every pound of beef we eat, we have to deal with nearly 50 pounds of steer poop.
    Now you understand why Burger King’s “Impossible Burger” is so interesting: it generates no poop!

    There are a few large dairy farms near me in Ontario, Canada and they have opted for the biogas digesters for their manure. The fertilizer is still spread on the fields after digesting but all the methane is collected before it escapes into our noses. They both are running large natural gas generators and selling the electricity back to the grid. Surprisingly their electricity cheque is comparable to their milk cheques each month. I know the one in Lindsay is producing enough electricity to power 450-500 homes! It seems like a really good use of shit! Oh and also there is a screw that takes the fibres out of the poop slurry and it is dried for bedding as well. It looks like a very very good use of resources to me. Oh and also the barn in Lindsay has heated floods from the excess generator heat and their house is heated from it too and with warm floors the cows have had less hoof rot issues then they did before.
    Check out Greenenergyfutures.ca if you want to see the one in Lindsay

    Then too, there's the eco-compomposter, a constantly turning tube that composts manure rapidly, but not necessarily odourlessly. Can handle MUCH more manure, and even carcasses than a natural pile in a shorter amount of time, just because of the constant air exposure by the rotation and falling from one side of the tube to the other...I believe its known as "Bio-digester" I'm not affiliated with it, simply impressed.😎

    I love spreading manure! We have a small feedlot and have started spreading dry manure from the pens on our winter wheat fields during the fallow summer, then stir it in with tillage before planting. Yields have improved so much, all from spreading animal waste on it!

    Hi again MIKE
    Another of your many titles!
    POOPER SCOOPER!
    Good info great vid Mike. Folks off a ranch or farm can really use the composting info for the soil in their gardens also! They too can have delicious organic food for way less cost...
    Erin's veggies are a beautiful example of her usage. Large or small the soil quality makes a big difference.
    Thx as always for sharing Mike. Looking forward to those first calves!!!

    And Mini Mikie Bloomberg said, "I could teach anybody to be a farmer. You dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn." Being a farmer sounds a lot more complicated to me. Thanks for the informative video!

    I see what you did there, poop talk!! I saw on a TV show about a dairy farm that collected it's poo, and from there dumped it in to large collection under ground, with this the methane was collected, and that was how they heated their home, and a couple other buildings. It wastes went from there to a pond like with a liner under it making it water proof, and the stuff would evaporate. I saw this, I believe, on Dirty jobs long ago. Like to see your what you thoughts our on something like that. Now some where along the way, I started to watch for your videos, So I felt it would be easier just to subscribe, and hit the little bell.

    The manure is a great fertilizer once it as aged and then spread it in your fields. Composting time and mixing the dirt and grass.
