Thank you, Michael Mann, "Heat" is an absolute masterpiece, THE perfect film. Very great storytelling, suspense from the first to the last second. You are a genius!
My fave scene is when Neil threatens Van Zant after the attempted set up. You just know it's going to go down. Yeah, the coffee shop is legendary and Al screaming about asses is hilarious.
I was eleven when I first saw it, in the cinema with my dad. I'd already seen and fallen hopelessly in love with Last of the Mohicans; used to daydream about being Daniel Day-Lewis's character, saving various female classmates from the bad Indians. Heat was the one that really lasted with me though. I think they're both fabulous films but when people ask my favourite film of all-time it's always Heat.
Learn something new every time I watch Heat, but I never realized (until the director said it in this video) that Hannah picked up on something while having coffee with Neil. Something so innocent at the time ended up being so important. Masterpiece.
Michael Mann has a special touch in his films specially in H E A T. Had the great privilege to meet him at this event, even though I missed going in to see it on the big screen again because the Theater had a full house.
Every actor, regardless if it's Oscar winning actors like in HEAT or some rotten tomato bomb, brings a unique perspective to their portrayal of their character. It isn't so much about Michael Mann or Pacino and De Niro, but a symbiosis of script, directing and acting chops. This script has been incubating for a long time before Al or Bobby even knew of it. The success of this move and any movies in general are on the actors and what they bring to the table.
When I was in high school I worked at a Radio Shack down the street from my house. It was on the brink of closing because it was hard to find and barely anyone came in. The assistant manager and I would turn Heat on all the TVs and then hook up all the surround speakers we could and crank it up for the shootout. It was awesome. You felt like you were in the middle of the actual shootout. That and the “she got a great ass” line were so much better hooked to a dozen surround sound speakers lol
Mann’s usage of sound was so revolutionary. You never saw the gore but you heard the enhanced heightened sound of like a knife twisting into a stomach. Shit like that really left an impression on me. The sound itself was more visceral and gruesome. This man flips contradictions on their heads.
Greatest casting, directing , and producing ever. My LIST and of course this is on top. 1. Heat 2. The Bourne Supremacy (all of em) 2. The Fugitive 2. The Kingdom 2. Lone Survivor 2. US Marshals and more
@@maciek8159 Miami Vice movie has grown on me over time. Jamie Foxx was the weak link for me though.Otherwise the story style pacing is typical of the original TV show which is great for fans.
I love Miami vice. Never tire of watching it. Incredible movie. People who say the film is nothing like the TV show don't know what they're talking about because there are lines that are lifted right out of the TV show and a lot of the screenplay is based on the episode smugglers blues.
Apparently Voight asked Michael why he wanted him for that part when he could have gotten anybody for it, he said “if I chose someone else then you and I wouldn’t be able to work together”. Such a professional.
I saw this movie at the cinema and i was blown away!! They showed an another side of both sides. I saw RESPECT against one another proffesions. I bankrobber who,for ones, didnt kill for fun, only "if you stand in my way i have to stop you" " you do what you do best, try to stop someone like me" "if you get in my way i wont hasited for a second" The movie showes humain sides . I love it! HEAT FOREVER!!
He took a low-budget, made-for-TV pilot like L.A. Takedown and made it into the sprawling epic of Heat. Wonder if he's ever considered giving The Jericho Mile (also a made-for-TV movie) the same upgrade. I bet it would be awesome.
Eddie Bunker is also Mr Blue in Reservoir Dogs he's appeared in numerous other films and Steve Buscemi directed a good film called Animal Factory that was based on one of Bunker's novels.
HEAT is one of the greatest film of all time. if there ever was a remake of this film i would love to see Bale and DiCaprio as Pacino and DeNiro's characters
Michael Mann is currently writing a prequal/sequel to Heat. Whether that becomes a film or not remains to be seen. Will be interesting to see who he casts though....?
only sound design error was when chris got pissed at his wife and stormed out of his house and slammed the door. it was a glass door and the noise of the door slamming didnt seem like what you would hear from a glass door

if it has machine guns in it, I'll go see it. the one question I'd have asked is how, using blanks, did you nail that M-16 sound? is that done indoors? a sound stage?
I love it when the over intellectualised overthinkers who get so far removed from enjoying a film simply as it is ask the creator about their work, and just get told "No!". No bro, it's nothing to do with "North by Northwest".
There wasn't anything wrong with Mann's answer, but there wasn't anything wrong with the question either. Filmmakers take influence from all sorts of previous works; no harm in asking about it.
He doesn’t want anything to do with the film The keep he directed yet hundreds of thousands of fans of the film loved everything of the film and there’s so so much of the film was cut
Love when a true artist dismisses the pretentious questions of these goofballs. He earned the praise he gets from this film. Hardwork and a definitive vision trumps all these wavering poetic musing BS. The question about Hitchcock is unbelievably cringe.
It was an underrated master work gravely ignored by the Academy Awards.
it should have won many awards
Mann didn't suck up to any production studio telling him what to do or change.
I bet that didn't help it along
But the movie has only gained more and more appreciation over the years. That is more important than any award in my opinion.
He is the true crime film director. After thief this man is a legend. His vision and feeling for this genre has made them classics.
Thief was amazing
A masterpiece by Michael Mann.

The best crime drama ever made. Period.

I can always watch this film, one of my favourites. That pivotal point at the end where McCauley considers taking out Waingro always stands out

Michael Mannfavourite producer Heat is best movie ever captured in Holywood film history 💎
One of the best examples of integrating a powerhouse ensemble. Jon Voight skillfully delivered his small part, really enjoyed his performance.
