I love your sketchbook tours because it gives me permission to play. It’s not about being good as it is about playful expression. Then you can. Get it all out and move on to other projects.

I have such a hard time doing this in my sketchbooks. I’ve discovered keeping a ton of printer paper on hand that I can be free on helps me. If I like the results, I can tape or glue it into a sketchbook. If not, I throw it away.
Looking through your sketchbooks really inspire me to just get on with creating something and not be too hesitant 😊

Once I got over trying to make all the drawings my sketchbook finished pieces, I’ve accomplished more and had a lot more fun with materials. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sandi, I have hoarded sketchbooks and pretty little journal books for my entire life (58 years) until discovering you and your wonderful channel! December 2022 I finally took your advice and began using one of the many I have "saved"! Today, I sold two watercolor paintings from my sketchbooks......I sell paintings often but these were just my practice sketchbook ones! Thank you for all the inspiration and for the fire you lit under me to use those books! BTW I shop at the same Jerry's!!!! Thanks for being YOU!!!!

I have been working in my sketchbooks the past few months motivated by your freedom and play. My husband will sometimes catch me and give a sort of judgmental frown and I feel a cold chill BUT I immediately think of you, Sandy, and hold my ground internally. Thank you so much for supporting this kind of art work. It's a very immediate, tactile, and intimate way of working that leaves me feeling more alive (even in the face of criticism). I can't wait for the publication of your sketchbooks! It will be such a thrill to linger over the images, move the pages nearer and further away for perspective, and look at the lines and brushwork! I have just recently recovered from Covid, and I had the opportunity to rewatch many of my favorite Sandi videos! Sandi, I love your sketchbook tours because every page says, "Fun, Play, Exploration, Learning, and Knowledge Gained!" I feel so intimidated and discouraged seeing other artist's "curated" pages, which make a sketchbook look like a contender for a museum collection rather than a place to stretch oneself.
I sincerely hope that what I’m about to say is received as a compliment, because it is intended to be a most observant and intentional compliment: I personally do not enjoy your art but I do very much enjoy and respect not only your technique but what I can glean to be the reason that your style is the way that it is. You’re so focused on just having fun and experimenting and that makes everything so exciting and aesthetic! I can tell that part for you really is an expression of the inner child, more so than I think I have seen from anybody. The vibes of your artwork is absolutely fantastic. And even though I don’t personally like your style I admire the fact that you commit to it so much that it is a noticeably childlike and defined style. Your art is a pure act of commitment and expression. I’m so excited to dive deeper into your channel! Thank you for being you and thank you for giving me and the rest of the world your opinions and experiences on all of the different brands and mediums that we can use to express ourselves with!
Lane I totally get that - there’s definitely art I don’t care for but can respect it and learn from it! Art is so subjective but there’s things to appreciate in all of it!

i love all your sketches, very beautiful and it reminds me of my childhood where you painted lots of geese with the lake, and those trees behind it , it just remind me of a place in wisconsin that i get to visit every summer! Im also going to college to learn different techniques in studio arts and this video motivate me to play with many materials and start a sketchbook journey, god bless you and all of you creative souls!😊✨🌞
Thank you Sandi, you taught me to use my sketchbooks as reference for paintings. I know sounds obvious but I wasn’t doing that before. Always love your birds, that’s what you were painting when I first found you. Also liked the idea of doing quick pieces of landscapes while being a passenger in the car. Great ideas. 🙋🏼♀️🌻🇨🇦
Sandi, I love the dear picture where the deer are transparent on top of each other. I've seen it before when artists put deer and other animals with it. I love yours too!!

I am studying them 🧐👩🎨 And some of your indoor scenes with people, the style, reminds me of Maira Kalman's work as well. So much fun!

It's great that you have the sketchbooks as a place to practice your naive art in a safe, without judgement zone. It really does not matter what anyone else thinks and that's the key to enjoying your creative life. Keep having fun with your supplies.

Most of it is color preference. Most artists are drawn naturally to certain colors. It’s how you develop your own style. I talk about that in my landscape class that makes coming out soon

I love how you draw. Everything. I follow you on Instagram and I always first love something and then realise it’s yours. Not because I don’t recognise your work (because I do) but somehow I always first connect to the painting and then (in a split second) see that it’s your work.

Even in your sketchiest sketch, the observer can see your steady hand and gifted eye. It reminds me of some very minimal line drawings by Georgia Okeefe in the museum at Santa Fe.

Love my sketchbooks and how freeing they are since they're just for me. Oh and, the landscape to the finished piece...incredible. Hard to understand how you get from the sketch to that marvel but years of work and your artistic talent, sounds about right. Really looking forward to the class! Thanks Sandi

Very inspiring especially how you use them to create larger paintings. LOVED the painting you showed!
Also, as regards the blank pages i have been using a layer of clear gesso to keep bleed through from happening. I still prefer working direct on the paper but it protects well the other side of the page.

I'm a new subscriber, just found your channel this or last week, and I'm already benefiting from it: I've had a really long pause in my arts practice since 'I'm not any good' and 'I'm just wasting materials with my scribbles' - but thanks to you, I've now pulled out my art journal / sketchbook and I'm ready to play again without pressure or expectations, already did my first loose landscape studies. I have a question about your sheets of paper between your sketchbook-pages: You said, that they should be acidfree. But is your tracing- or wax-paper acidfree? Can you leave this wax-paper-sheets in your sketchbook for longer time? or do you take your wax-paper-sheets out, when you put your sketchbooks in your shelf?
I’m not sure if those are acid free that’s why I use glassine

Emma because she’s a mix of artist and illustrator and works with mediums that I do. They have both fed me artistically though
