Well done episode on a rare 50's spots car. Seen a picture of the Wisp in my Pat Foster AMC book, with you that one should have been built. The Nash Healey is just gorgeous. Interesting story on the meeting with Mr. Mason, he had a great vision how cars should be designed . Like how they redone the manifolds to keep the hood low, and the telescoping steering wheel.. Pedals look offset like a YW. First pick the Kaiser Darrin (like the cool sliding doors like my postal Jeep), the second, the Muntz Jet.
Great choices... the wisp and palm beach were stellar designs I wish they would have built them in numbers, the palm beach still exists I want to get in a healey it looks easy to get into easier than thunderbird or corvette

A similar treat was when we spotted a maroon Allard near Lime Rock Raceway in CT....not unusual to encounter rare and special cars in that neighborhood, as it was probably attending an event there. Wow, that interior door handle mechanism is something! Terrific overview of the history behind this design. Based on the above, I’ll take the Nash Healy! Happy Halloween! 🎃
I'd take the Jag. It was a sports car in every element. The Corvette you pictured was a 55, and not a 53. Almost all the 53's were white, and the dead giveaway is as a one year only feature, the large "V" in the Corvette script indicated the car came with a V-8. Most 55 Vettes had the six.
Thank you so much for that correction I should’ve knew that all the Corvettes were white in 53 I was just looking for a picture fast lol Maybe will start a new segment on Mondays called miss information Monday.. lol The jag is a sweet choice =)
Not almost... actually ALL 53s were Polo white with red interiors and black tops. You're right though, the one he showed was a 55... that Corvette Copper color was a 55 only option. Good eye, catching that golden "V"... I saw the color and knew immediately, so I didn't even bother looking closer. Also, only about the first 7 or so 55 vettes got the straight 6s, then after those were used up they all got V8s. Oddly enough, neither engine was listed as an option that year, they were both considered "standard" equipment.
@@livewire2759 I'm not a Vette expert, but I've seen (2) 53's in other colors than Polo White. These are the folks that don't care about originality (or money). Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the 55's (265 equipped) didn't happen until later in the model year. I knew someone who had a V-8 in green and yellow - an odd color combo.
@@Radiowild Yeah, sorry if I come off like a "know-it-all"... I have an unhealthy obsession with vintage Corvettes... Anyway, all of the 53s were white from the factory, but sure, some people may have painted a few some other colors over the years. To my knowledge, all of the known remaining survivors have been restored to their original Polo White. However, there were some prototypes that were different colors as well, and the 54s which look almost identical to the 53s (the only difference is longer tail pipes) could be had in 4 different colors... red, white, blue and black... but they all had beige tops that year. The 55s were all supposed to have V8s to compete with the new (that year) Ford Thunderbirds that had Fords new overhead valve V8s. They only made a few 55 vettes with L6s at first to use up some remaining stock from the 54 model year... or at least that's what most historians claim. I think they would have held on to a few for warranty claims, but either way, the official number most historians agree on is 7 that had the Blue Flame Six engines in '55. Anyway, the Chevy V8 was actually scheduled to debut in 56, but they rushed it to have it ready for the 55s just so the Corvette wouldn't be outdone by the T-birds... even though T-birds outsold vettes by about 10 to 1 anyway. That's also why they had the big golden "V" emblems, to show off the fact that they had a new V8 just like Ford. The green and yellow 55s are my favorites. I think they look great, but I'm aware that I'm in the minority with that opinion!
Hi Jay!: Great episode on a BEAUTIFUL sports car, the Nash Healey! Too bad they dumped it before they could have got one of their V-8 engines in it!! WYR #1 Can't pick ONE going to pick them ALL!! #2 Going XK120 here. A CLASSIC sports car also!
I would have to go with the Nash-Healey and the Jaguar. Both came with manual transmissions. The Kaiser-Darrin's looks are maybe an acquired taste that I'll probably never acquire. And the 53 and 54 Vettes came with warmed-over Sixes and mandatory Powerglide. The Powerglide is the deal-breaker. I can't quite make out the early 70s pop song. I got the review of 54 but I totally agree with you about the power glide.. Kaiser Darren is definitely an acquired taste I found out those cars are really rare now even though they were built a fiberglass survival rate wasn’t good.. Great choices thank you for that song
@@What.its.like. I guess since the Chevy V8 wasn't ready for production until the 1955 model year, the GM division had to employ the Blue Flame Six, or hold up the Vette launch until '55. Borrowing the Olds, Caddy, or Buick V8 might have made the car more expensive than management intended.
Good one Jay. I enjoyed the little song at the end. Top man your vids are the best mate. Short and sweet and to the point. The 120Jag at the end choice is the most ! Aren't they beautiful mate ? Cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿
For WYR, I will go with the Nash Healey, and the Jaguar. I really like the color of this car. And I will agree about that rear fender. Nice overall look. The only time I have ever seen this car was in an old movie, It Should Happen to You, with Judy Holliday, from 1954. Peter Lawford plays a rich guy driving this car around Times Square with Ms. Holliday. But I've never seen this car in real life.
Sweet choices =) these cars are sweet I know of one locally so definitely gonna come back and hit this again next year maybe we could even go for a ride and that one =)
Interesting episode. Lots of twists and turns in the history. That’s an outstanding example of a beautiful car. It looks like it just rolled off the factory floor. I think there was Nash-Healey in an episode or 2 of the 1950’s Superman series
@@markw208Yeah, I have a hate-hate relationship with spell check! It's always takes the correctly spelled word, and substitutes one that doesn't make any sense, in the phrase. ✌️😊👍

Great choices I totally agree but getting into a vette c1 sucks with top on not sure what’s harder getting in or out.. it’s not the worst car but it’s hard
During his time in TV series, "The Adventures Of Superman", His girlfriend was Toni Mannix, who was also the wife of M-G-M bigwig Eddie Mannix(who was also a mobster). Although Nash was the make of choice in the "Superman" series, Toni Mannix bought George a Nash-Healey. It appeared in some of the "Superman" shows driven by Clark Kent. Eventhough, I believe He and Toni had broken up, I and many suspect that Eddie Mannix set up the suicide. Eddie also plulled some strings to end George's career. It didn't seem likely that George would have committed suicide, "The Adventures of Superman" was setting up to resume the series and George was again be rolling in dough and get his fame back. See why Eddie Mannix wouldn't want George to succeed? As few as were made, it's funny why the Nash-Healeys keep popping up. One of my old customers had been a Nash-Rambler salesman and sold them. People would trade them in on new AMC's and he would sell them over again. As used cars, they were just used cars and lost value over the years. Maybe in the 70's people got interested in collectable cars and the prices started going up gradually.
WYR1: I'll take the Darrin, or go outside the box for a '55 Studebaker President Speedster. Or a '53 Packard Caribbean. WYR2: I like the Nash Healy looks better than either of the other offerings, but I'd go outside the box with the Studebaker again.
@@What.its.like. Not too many good ones. My grandpa wouldn't let my uncle park his car in the garage because my Grandpa owned a 1942 Packard, so the Healey was parked in the back alley. Over time, people were stealing parts off the Healey. After my grandpa died, my uncle took the Packard apart, piece by piece, and threw those pieces in the garbage. He eventually put the Healey in the garage and never restored it. When my Grandma died and they sold her house, my uncle moved to Hope, BC, and took the Healey with him. Eventually my uncle died and he had no will. My other uncle couldn't have been bothered contacting my Dad and setting up a way to deal with my other uncle's estate, so he let our Canadian Government do it. Well, the government sold off the Healey as scrap metal for next to nothing. That was the fate of the Healey and a 1942 Packard.
I’ve got to go with the Kaiser Darren, for the first question [ though the Nash-Healy would be close. And again I’d go with the Muntz Jet, but the Nash-Healy would be very close. 🚗🙂
Yeah you can’t go wrong with any of them the song is from 1971.. I had to make name that tune harder because people are using software I’m getting it right out of the gate this one and nobody’s gotten the Franklin one yet.. Which I still can’t believe because it’s a really popular 60s song that might be overplayed
Awesome choices and most definitely I made the last well when that episode came out I made those ones harder because people are using software no one got the Franklin one or Chrysler Town & Country either I’m going to have to write them down before I forget lol
@@What.its.like. I have a feeling my Dad might just recognize that riff. I'm coming up on 40 next year, so I know some oldies thanks to my Dad, but that's way out there for me.

It is! Trust me, the older you get, the faster they go! As for the Muntz, I was coming up behind in traffic. I kept trying to identify it as I approached. As soon as I was close enough I saw the Muntz name on the trunk lid and liked to sh*t!!! Ha! Darned near ran off the road looking at it. Talk about distracted driving!
Would I rather... I'm a Corvette guy and my last name is Kaiser... so... sorry Nash, you're third in line there! (BTW, that "53" Corvette you showed was a 55... all 53 vette's were white. That color, Corvette Copper, was only available in 55. In 56 and 57 it was called Aztec Copper.) For the 2nd choice, I'd take the Nash. Jaguars are overrated and the Muntz is just ugly... I don't care how rare it is, it's rare because nobody wanted one! And once again, the song sounds familiar but I can't even think of anything to guess... sounds like some late 60s hippy pop tune... The song you sang at the end was from Willy Wonka though... the scene where they get drunk and float. I have no idea what the song is called though.
Haha The song at the end is from Pawtucket Pat Family Guy episode where they make fun of Willy Wonka Thank you so much for the correction on the Corvette yeah that’s a 55 I was just looking for a picture of a 53 totally flew over my head I knew all of the Corvettes made in 1953 were all white... DUH moment lol. Great choices =)
@@What.its.like. LOL I was going to mention that episode of Family Guy but figured my comment was already long enough! I didn't even realize you used those lyrics instead! Anyway, it's understandable, the mix-up with the vettes... it's hard to find pics of '53s since they only made 300 of them... and I think only around 250 still exist today.
53 vette, the jag would be nice but British cars are finicky and I think their will be a lot more parts and advice to help with the vette. I would like to put a Hellcat engine in the vette. LOL.
Hot design slash layout. The N. Healey is the winner of the first batch of three sport cars, but got to say the Jag beats out the Nash in the second lot, sorry. Jaguars were the king of cool in that era, hands down.
Would have put a cado engine in there w the 2fo barrels never saw one in real life had a metropolitan for a minute or two junkyard queen 😅. parked in driveway overnight paid 75$ sold in morning 400$
At the end it’s a parity of Willie Walker put on by family guy called Pawtucket Pat but there was a tune before that that one was name that tune that was at the end it was just something random..
WYR: Nash Healey, the others are slugs by comparison. Kaiser Darren is heavy and underpowered, and the tiny sliding door is ridiculous looking, as is that thing where a radiator opening should be. The Corvette is better looking, but also underpowered, compared to the NH.
The 49 ambassador had that instrument cluster in a pod on the column so no gauges on dash of the Ambassador. great video

Nice presentation. But, those are bumper guards. Over-riders are typically a separate piece that connects the bumper guards.
Good one Jay. I enjoyed the little song at the end. Top man your vids are the best mate. Short and sweet and to the point. The 120Jag at the end choice is the most ! Aren't they beautiful mate ? Cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Haha yeah something completely random =) great choices glad you dig this episode
A very cool looking car. NH for me. Across the board.
Sweet choices =)
For WYR, I will go with the Nash Healey, and the Jaguar.
I really like the color of this car. And I will agree about that rear fender. Nice overall look.
The only time I have ever seen this car was in an old movie, It Should Happen to You, with Judy Holliday, from 1954. Peter Lawford plays a rich guy driving this car around Times Square with Ms. Holliday.
But I've never seen this car in real life.
Sweet choices =) these cars are sweet I know of one locally so definitely gonna come back and hit this again next year maybe we could even go for a ride and that one =)
Saw a coupe on the showroom floor of the Rambler Dealer in Morgantown, WV, late sixties. 😊
What I would give to have lived back then it would’ve Have been awesome to see these back then totally different world
truly a great video.
Glad you dig this one
1949 Chrysler town and country coming today
Kaiser Darrin all the way! Keep the cool stuff
Interesting episode. Lots of twists and turns in the history. That’s an outstanding example of a beautiful car. It looks like it just rolled off the factory floor. I think there was Nash-Healey in an episode or 2 of the 1950’s Superman series
That car was awesome, owner was an awesome guy as well =)
Nash had too big of an engine for Harley, used a Healey instead.
@@ramblerdave1339 , 😂 Good catch. So much for automatic spell check. I didn’t notice the “Harley” mistake 🤭
@@markw208Yeah, I have a hate-hate relationship with spell check! It's always takes the correctly spelled word, and substitutes one that doesn't make any sense, in the phrase. ✌️😊👍
Jaguar 120 all day long 👏❤️👏❤️👏
Nash a great 2nd place 👍
I'm a Chevy Guy !!! But the 53 to 55 Corvette is a Fancy Truck 😢😔😱
Anyone that got to drive one .... Understands 🤷..
Great Episode ☺️✌️🍻 Happy Motoring
Great choices I totally agree but getting into a vette c1 sucks with top on not sure what’s harder getting in or out.. it’s not the worst car but it’s hard
Nice, Clark Kent's sports car. (1950s TV show)
American Motors engineer made a pamphlet on how to install their new 327 Rambler v8 into Nash Healey
Great information
Great information thank you so much for taking the time to share all that insight =)
WYR1: I'll take the Darrin, or go outside the box for a '55 Studebaker President Speedster. Or a '53 Packard Caribbean.
WYR2: I like the Nash Healy looks better than either of the other offerings, but I'd go outside the box with the Studebaker again.
In the first scenario I would go with the Kaiser Darrin. Then Nash Healey in second scenario.
Sweet =) choices
There is book telling 'How to install AMC 327 into Nash Healy'
My uncle owned an Austin Healey.
Sweet any cool stories
🚗🙂
Groovy choices =)
WYR: All of them, but the Corvette would get the most use.
NTT: Kind of sounded like a 50s song, but I could be wrong.
@@What.its.like. At least I was in the right century.
The Nash Heally both times.
Sweet choices =)
on question 1# i would take the Nash Healey.
Sweet choices =)
I'll take the Nash-Healy anyday, but can I phone a friend for the song title? 😂
Healey all the way!!!
Muntz Jet, because it's so weird.
Awesome choice they are different
The Jet!
Awesome =)
WYR 1. Nash wins over Kaiser, but only by a hair 2. The Muntz is very tempting as I've only seen one in person, but gotta go with Jag all day!
Great choices =) Muntz Jet is the most rare.. I think less then 100 were built that’s off the top of my head
@@What.its.like. I saw a Muntz being trailered in traffic about 20 years ago. I couldn't believe it! I've never seen another and I don't think even Gilmore has one! They do have a Darrin! Great vid as always Jayman!
I have a friend who knows where there’s a muntz Jet might do it next year this year is almost over which is nuts..
Haha I get that way every time I see a Packard driving, They are like poetry in motion lol
Stutz Bearcat was an early American sports car.
Awesome thank you for that correction I forgot to say post war car
You are doing a great job. Thank you for keeping it alive and taking it to a younger audience.
WYR 1: Toss up between Nash and Kaiser WYR 2: Jag, hands down.
Sweet choices it’s really hard to beat that Jag
I’m so dizzy Tommy Roe,Kaiser Darin& Muntz Jet
Great guess not that song or band The song is from 1971
Would I rather...
I'm a Corvette guy and my last name is Kaiser... so... sorry Nash, you're third in line there! (BTW, that "53" Corvette you showed was a 55... all 53 vette's were white. That color, Corvette Copper, was only available in 55. In 56 and 57 it was called Aztec Copper.)
For the 2nd choice, I'd take the Nash.
Haha The song at the end is from Pawtucket Pat Family Guy episode where they make fun of Willy Wonka
Thank you so much for the correction on the Corvette yeah that’s a 55 I was just looking for a picture of a 53 totally flew over my head I knew all of the Corvettes made in 1953 were all white...
LOL.
Haha a rocket ship
53 Kaiser Darren, 53;Nash Healy
Great choices =)
!953 corvette especailly in the orange
Haha yeah that was a 55 but great choice
nash and nash
Sweet =)
Hot design slash layout. The N. Healey is the winner of the first batch of three sport cars, but got to say the Jag beats out the Nash in the second lot, sorry. Jaguars were the king of cool in that era, hands down.
Great choices that Jaguar was the fastest car in the day it would be really hard to top it..
Would have put a cado engine in there w the 2fo barrels never saw one in real life had a metropolitan for a minute or two junkyard queen 😅. parked in driveway overnight paid 75$ sold in morning 400$
That’s awesome I’ve been looking for a metro I think they are cool cars
@@What.its.like. thanx for your reply
WYR: 1) the Nash Healey - best driver of the 3, 2) the Jag - why even ask.
Great choices =)
Kaiser Darrin.
XK-120
Cool choices =)
53 'Vette
53 Jag
Song, dunno...
Sweet choices
Song is from 1971
Gunther's Beer?
At the end it’s a parity of Willie Walker put on by family guy called Pawtucket Pat but there was a tune before that that one was name that tune that was at the end it was just something random..
1953 kaiser darwin
=) sweet those are different
I'd rather have Nash Healey
Sweet =)
Maybe next year we can go for a ride in one I know a guy =)
WYR: Nash Healey, the others are slugs by comparison. Kaiser Darren is heavy and underpowered, and the tiny sliding door is ridiculous looking, as is that thing where a radiator opening should be. The Corvette is better looking, but also underpowered, compared to the NH.
nash healey beat gm & ford to the punch
Totally agree with a way better product
Nash Healey / Muntz Jet
Great choices =)
I didn't know Hudson and Muntz both had Jets. I do remember 'Benny and the Jets'.
Haha and Jet, by Paul McCartney and wings.. jet liner Steve Miller, yeah it’s crazy they both used the Jet name hudson even had a jetliner
its time to learn whos who in us auto history... forget what the know it alls told you
Definitely corvette people tend to forget the healey was first
