Crazy weve already had the jetta for a full week at this point and how much it has already changed. Still have many more plans and work to do but we are off to a great start!

With my old 87 jetta door handles always a winter issue. Illinois winter ice storms. I always keep extra pair in car. I got fast changing those out.

Wow what a difference
Mine was a 87 2 door jetta 5 spd. The 13 steel the 175 70 13 you have on there now are factory. Now I found a set of p wheel 14 off a gti can not remember if it was a a1 or a2. Ran 185 60 14 looked better handled little better did not throw off speedo and did not major change the ride of the car. Jealous miss my old a2 jetta for many years.

the 84 door moaldings dont have clips they are just glued on. its common to just remove them.
Ah gotcha I didn’t know that. My wife’s 91 has the clip on moldings so I just assumed it was the same

For the true 80s look the front VW badge has to be removed.
I never saw a VW with its front badge courtesy of the beastie boys back in the 80s and if you managed to get hold of one the wait for a new one was months from VW only for it to disappear again in minutes lol.

I'd sand down those rust spots on the bottom of the right hand side doors. Get some body paint and paint the doors from the trim down...
On the other hand from how this car was a week ago it's proving to have real potential.. Maybe forget how it was, make a blank canvas and make your dream mk2.
And go get the W8 and put it in the mk2 😁
