…what I remember about Easter… is my dad never mowed our lawn until after Easter so he could hide eggs for us kids…. He was the best dad ever ❤ *edit… not just because of this, because it is one of a million reasons why he was always my hero

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad passed in 2015, and when we were little, he would hide the foil-wrapped eggs in the long grass...mind you, not inside the plastic eggs.🤣 It was a challenge to find those little chocolate eggs. Eventually a few days later, he'd manage to chop up a few of the eggs we didn't find with the mower. Thanks for unlocking this memory!

My 4 brothers an I with all our families ended up at my Mom's. She had ham, mashed potatoes. Baked beans, candied yams, scalloped corn, buttered steamed cauliflower. hot rolls deviled eggs and because she was a grandma, I had one nephew who only would eat fried chicken or hamburgers grandma also made fried chicken. I so miss my Mom's cooking. She cooked like this every Sunday. It was always a 2 meat meal. It was fried chicken and either meatloaf, beef and pork roast( the left overs made the most outstanding BBQ), and all the sides. I do the huge Thanksgiving sides so my son can take leftovers home. He is like me. I love leftover Thanksgiving better than fresh. My mom was so use to a big family that when she was hungry for chili. Spaghetti ot BBQ she would call myself and my 4 sisters in law and tell them not to cook supper and bring a big pot to take their share of this home for supper that night. We lost my Dad unexpectedly. Then we lost my Mom to cancer. I lost my Dad when I was 18 and my mom when I was 28. I miss them so much. I'm 72 and it never gets easy. Have also lost 2 of my brothers and 3 of my sisters in law, plus 2 of my nephews. Sorry for rambling on so, but I watch you all the time and you remind me of my family and I just felt like talking to you. Love your family. God Bless

i don’t have kids, but i do have 3 dogs. you best believe i have an easter egg hunt for them every year! i put little dog treats in the eggs and hide them around the living room. 2 of my dogs are so good about gently opening the egg and getting the treat. they kind of pop open the egg with their teeth. the third dog just rips the egg apart to get to the treat! it’s so much fun to watch them search for the eggs. who says only kids get to have fun? lol

I am originally from Hungary and there are many traditions that are out of the American norm. One we celebrate
Easter for about three days. Saturday night, a special Diner, Sunday about the same as here, but on Monday we have a tradition called sprinkling when male relatives visit houses with
Female, recite them a poem and gently (or not so gently) sprinkle them with some water. In return the woman gives them a painted or chocolate egg. Sometimes money for younger boys. Also, treat them some cookies and drinks till the next relative arrives. And it goes on the whole day :)

Mom decided to make dressing so bad the dog would not eat it. She ran from the bowl. We had pie and made a thank you Jesus cake.or cup cakes. Just regular cake.that says thank you jesus.     I don’t really remember allot about Easter growing up! I don’t know why! But after all of girls grew up and had kids of our own, we’d go to my sweet Mama’s house for Easter lunch after church and we’d hide eggs for the kids and Mama would have all of us a little basket made. She would always put a hand made goody in ours…a pot holder, an embroidered dish towel or something special like that. I still have all of my precious things she made down through the years!!     A little info for you. The purpose of the card board egg container is;
It grabs any humidity/moisture that is in the refrigerator allowing your
eggs to stay fresher longer.. 😯😯😯. I saw that on TH-cam. Interesting huh?
So now, I just keep them in the original cardboard container.

Easter was a mix of who we are, Ham & Cheesy Potatoes & Lamb with Mint Jelly. A big tossed salad & some kinda Jello Salad usually my task so I made the Mandarin Orange with Pudding on top, delish! We would do an Easter Egg Hunt either in the house if snow was on the ground or outside if one of our early Springs, but Grandma/Mom used plastic eggs stuffed with candy & occasionally money. All the Grandkids loved the Egg Hunt & to be fair, she wrote eavh Grandkid's names on the eggs they searched for, divided equally & difficulty according to age. Such fun memories! ❤

I've experienced snow on Easter here in Ohio, also rain. Many times we had Easter egg hunts in the house instead of outside when I was growing up. Since being married to my husband, who is Russian Orthodox, Easter means breakfast with his family in Pennsylvania. Preparation begins on Friday with coloring the eggs by using wax to make designs and then dipping the egg in various colors of dye. Saturday has us making breads, nut rolls (kolache), and horseradish beets. We would pack this food into a basket which is decorated with ribbons and flowers and take it to church on Saturday evening for the priest to bless the food. A smoked ham and fresh ham (with garlic cloves inserted) are baked slowly during the night. Easter morning we go to church and have the entire family over for late breakfast consisting of smoked ham, fresh ham, kielbasa, horseradish beets, cottage cheese, and hard boiled eggs, bread, and nut rolls. Before the meal, my husband, the oldest in the family, walks the basket of food around the house three times. We all have a glass of wine during the meal which is passed out to each of us one at a time where we each will say a simple statement praising the Lord. After late breakfast, we wash the dishes and fill up bowls with various Easter candies slices of nut roll for everyone to munch on. And, of course, we always have a lot of left-over food to eat for supper.

I remember Easter as a child being a huge family dinner with ham, mashed potatoes & ham gravy, candied yams, corn, waldorf salad and so much more. As the years passed and older family member passed away, the meal stayed the same but it was not as fancy. Now that my parents are gone and its just our daughters, son in laws and grandsons, its a very laid back day with an egg hunt, followed by an easter store (an idea I came up with instead of more baskets for the kids) and a simple meal. I miss those days of the holiday traditions but I love the new way we celebrate too.

Easter sunday was like every other Sunday. We were in church everytime the doors were open, all year. We didn't have bunnies, or easter egg hunts, or easter baskets because it wasn't about that. We did have amazing choir contatas and special songs about Jesus' resurrection from the dead. And of course the church would be full because some people only attended on Easter. And the preacher would surely preach a great message about Jesus being raised from the dead, and salvation. Love the mac and cheese recipe, I'm going to have to try that one! :)

Mom always baked a ham with pineapple rings, cherries and cloves. We Usually had home mashed potatoes , peas , either winter squash or carrots, and Mom made the most delicious carrot pineapple jello salad. For dessert sometime she would make the apple Coolwhip lemon lime jello with chopped walnuts. Sometimes she would make lemon meringue pie and a chocolate cream pie.
During the week she would make scalloped potatoes with the leftover ham, Delicious!

My mom always made hot cross buns, and ham with sides for Easter. When my niece and nephew were too old for Easter Egg Hunts, I created "Easter Clue Hunts" which were clues or riddles to solve, which led them from place to place inside the house and the last clue led them to the "treasure," which was prizes of some sort. They loved them and the whole family joined in to help them solve the clues. It was great fun creating the clues and to watch them try to figure out what it meant.

We have ham, potato salad, mac and cheese, devilled eggs, a pasta salad, home made yeast rolls and homemade rye bread, broccoli salad, hash brown casserole, green beans, and several desserts. My favorite way to make green bean casserole. I get the big can of the French fried onions, I add some to the mixture. Then top it with the rest, yummmmm. You get those onions all throughout it. My adult daughter absolutely loves green bean casserole. Like I have made it throughout the year because she loves it so much. I need to try this recipe. But my oldest son can’t have it, we make it gluten and dairy free for him. He’s a chef and he made the onions homemade this last Thanksgiving. Love your videos ❤

I’m the go-to for the deviled eggs in my house! My dad taught me how he made them. Everyone always wants the recipe and all I have to give them is ingredients because dad (& now me) used the pinch/dash method. I’m like add until it looks good. The ingredients are hard boiled eggs. And all I do is mash the yolks, add mayonnaise and a dash of mustard, salt, and pepper. I add paprika to them after they’re in the halved eggs. I am also the red beet (pickled) egg go-to also. Those are extremely simple as well. All I do is put hard boiled eggs in a glass jar with a can of red beets and equal amounts of sugar and vinegar. These recipes are from the Pennsylvania Dutch side of my family.

@kskollections2142 For your pickled eggs, how long do you let them sit and where do you keep them as they pickle before you eat them? My greatgrandma did them this way, along with a sliced raw sweet or Bermuda onion, in beet juice + vinegar and sugar. It's THE topic during family gatherings, usually over coffee and desserts, and it's always a good-natured argument among the older women. They try to explain why their length of time in the fridge, or on the counter, or in a cool cupboard above or below the opposite side of the kitchen from the stove, or in the cold sellar or in a dark East-facing corner of their uninsulated basement, yields pickled eggs "JUST like Grandma's"! Hers were a beautiful solid lilac purple all the way to the yolk and even the yolk was tinged pinkish purple around the edge inside. (She used to shoo me away from pouring a cup of juice out of the giant Ball jar the purple gems lived in, to drink like Kool-Aid.) Very vivid memories from 1969-1973. Thank you in advance!

@@shannon3n8 I usually let them set for 24 hours in the refrigerator before I eat any, mainly because I like them cold and very colorful. Every time I make either of these I think of my dad. Every time he made these he would tell stories about making them with his grandma. Funny your family fights about red beet eggs, mine fights over great-grandma’s potato salad. She was very secretive with the recipe. It has been passed down to only one person per generation and unfortunately my brother was the one to be privileged in my generation. I’m trying to convince him to pass it to my youngest son who loves to cook, but we’ll see. Definitely can’t let it go. Memories.. great yet sad.

I gently agitate the eggs until they are all cooled on the outside and then they sit in the ice bath for 10 minutes. Your yolks will remain bright yellow all the way around that way. No sign of that slightly

And for dinner is a cod salad (I'm allergic to cod so for me it's tuna) with boiled pottatoes, sweet potatoes, and other such stem tubers, dressed in olive oil, vinager and salt.
