From what I can tell this dojo is continuing the legacy of strong Shito-Ryu karate that Hayashi Sensei would be proud of.

Years ago, I studied Hayashi-Ha Shito-Ryu in Chicago under Sensei Ken Fugare. A knee injury took me out months before my black belt test. My knee got better, but by then Sensei was no longer practicing, a few of my classmates said he had health problems, but I've never been able to find out what actually happened to him, or if he's even still alive. We we're kids when Sensei was training us, and he was something of a father figure to me. If anyone knows what happened to him, I'd love to finally know.

I don't know very much about Karate, I stumbled on this video, it seems to me Karate isn't just kicking and punching, but has everything, grappling, throws joint manipulation.

Where is this dojo located? I am a memebr of the International Hayashi-Ha Shito Ryu Gederation located in northern CA. I am just trying to find the affliated dojos around the world in hopes to compile a comprehensive list.

Shito ryu is a great style, at Hayashi-ha school it's even more efficient, stay strong.

Isn't shito ryu a mixture of 2 okinawan styles (shorin and goju ryu)...it appears to have the speed and finesse of shorin with the power of goju

Kenwa Mabuni the founder of Shito-ryu studied Shuri-te under the legendary Anko Itosu (teacher of Gichin Funakoshi, Toyama Kanken, Choki Motobu, Chomo Hanashiro, Chosin Chibana, Choyu Motobu and many others). Later on he would also study with Naha-te master Kanryo Higaonna (teacher of Chojun Miyagi and several others who also studied under Itosu). The named "Shito" is derived from the first Kanji of each of his teachers names.

Hayashi-ha is a much better Shito ryu style. It also includes weapons. Hayashi-ha himself was a great master. I did Shito ryu from Shitokai organization and it’s a bit feminized style of Shito ryu.

I find the traditional arts really fascinating but I can't help but find the katas hilarious to watch. Just learn to fight instead of dancing.

The katas will help in many ways, the bases are used all the time, biomechanics is the key to efficiency, but in addition to the kata, kihon and bunkai are needed.
