Learning that van Eyck was an early adopter of visual aid technology freed me from the 'shame' of using photo references and other shortcut techniques in my illustrations. Creating pleasing images is never easy and I'm forever grateful to van Eyck for posthumously granting artists and illustrators permission to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Thanks, Jan.

Any reason why this woman can't be Countess Jacquline of Bavaria/Hainaut/low countries/ she married a noble Frank of Borselle in 1434, rumours she married him in secret a year or 2 before without the knowlege of Philip the Good and Philip put him in prison then released him.
Jacquline's father died of a mysterious dog bite and her uncle was poisoned in the Hague.
The woman in the portrait is wearing gold bands and the man silver. suggesting she is more important, as would be in this case. Gold and silver tinctures refer to heraldry/guilds/military ect.
Frank of Borselle was a member of 2 chivalric orders the golden fleece and knights of St Anthony, Jacquline was a member of the Order of St Anthony like her forebears.
Jacquline died in 1436 and Frank outlived her for some considerable time and never remarried. She did have a stillborn plantagenet child with Duke Humpfrey of Gloucester.
Could this painting be a legal record of her handing all her lands to Philip the Good ? Philip said he would only allow the marriage to Frank if she did this.
