    the conductivity works in both directions, temperature-wise. You probably wont have an ice cube but you might have a match or a lighter; heating the bowl will also heat the handle pretty fast on a silver spoon...

    Imagine yourself at a bus stop in the winter. There is a stone bench, and a wooden bench. Which is warmer to sit on? Suppose you had a newspaper to place on the seat of the stone bench? They're both the same temperature of course, but wood and stone conduct head with different efficiencies. Likewise the "specific heat" of each metal is different.

    I used the ice cube test on a tray which I know is silver plated and the cube melted in seconds maybe since the silver layer is a thick one. So these tests are not always foolproof. Take it to a silversmith for an acid test.

    Untrustworthy sellers are gonna list a silver spoon as "silver topped" or "solid silver topped on base metal" or "halfted"? These sellers are trying to trick you into buying a solid silver spoon by listing it as partially silver? I doubt that very much. I am thinking they are stupid, just as that assumption is. No one is ever going to trick someone into buying a solid silver spoon as anything less. It defies logic.

    "Solid Sterling" is an oxymoron or conflation of terms, as Sterling Silver is an alloy that is typically 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metal..most often Copper. Sterling by definition is not "solid silver" but is a solid alloy. By contrast, silver PLATING is not solid (referring to the entire object) put possibly is pure silver plate on top of another metal.

    • @DrJakesVeryBritishReviews
      @DrJakesVeryBritishReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    • @MolonLabe1000
      @MolonLabe1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Smartwatch & Gadget Unboxings by Dr Jake it's as near to it as can be reasonably claimed. I have seen .9999 pure, that seems to be. the standard in Canada. Fun fact: 24k gold is .999+ pure.

    • @razvandragos5215
      @razvandragos5215 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Although i see your point and clarification of terms, i'll have to comment and respectfully say that solid sterling silver is a correct term in certain cases. As you may know there are exceptions to every rule in the book. In jewelry, gold mostly, but sterling silver as well, they do not always make solid metal jewelry. As you might know, a lot of gold and silver necklaces are hollow on the inside, and literally are as heavy as a piece of paper. I will contradict you by simply taking two sterling silver necklaces into consideration. One hollow necklace, no heavier than a piece of paper, and the other solid, weighing 90 grams. What would you call the hollow chain, nothing more but a hollow chain, right? Now what would you call the other chain (necklace) that has a heavy weight? Solid, am i right? So therefore solid sterling silver is a correct term..

    Watching ice melt is about as interesting as watching paint dry. Go ahead and skip this video as it offers no conclusive proof as to whether or not a spoon is sterling silver. This is a completely bogus test. Why? Because a cube at 20 degrees and a cube at 30 degrees will both be frozen ice cubes and look identical but they are not at the same starting temperature. The cube at the coldest original frozen temperature will melt slower, regardless of which spoon it is sitting in.
