I could figure out a different way to make tnt cannon using observers. Using two observers you can make both detect each other by making both faces be on each other and the other part of the observer showing on both. This will make the thing make a pulse stop the pulse and make a pulse again very quickly. With a bit of experimenting I could figure out how to hook that up to the piston and make it automatic.

Well I think if there is another player on that world you can ask them to place slabs on the sides of the bed that is under the portal or just destroy it / obstract the bed completely
Try using a sticky piston to move that block and do these tasks: 1: Place a diamond block on the same position as the slab then break the diamond blocks. 2: Break blocks through it and fill the hole. 3: Relog. 4. Jump on the slab. 5: Fire some TNT next to it to obtain it.

Here's a cool fact about Minecraft if you actually use deathstrider and so speed and frost Walker you rarely you can create bath salts and obsidian in the nether

idk if this works in java but in bedrock you can make a lil redstone clock with 2 observers faceing into each other
