Paprika is a life point movie to me. As in a time in your life that you haven't seen it and a time in your life after youve seen it. Its one of the greatest pieces of media ever created in my opinion.
Lucid dreams in this story would make a nice parallel with real world states where we have little to no control, yet sometimes we grasp enough of it to change our reality as we need it to be. Such as with people struggling with bad habits, drugs, depression, etc.
It would be an interesting evolution of the concept. Sort of like a game introducing new mechanics for a follow up, or a more special case they haven't seen yet in universe
Your line in there about how much energy it uses to hold dreams back and try to kill them off is extremely relatable as a trans person. Spent most of my life doing that and I didn’t realise how much mental energy it was taking until I stopped.
You are going to LOVE Millenium Actress with all the themes you raise here. I watch Tokyo Godfathers every new years, it is the single brightest ray of chaotic hope in media, and I find it a beautiful way to start each year.

Dude, your midlife crisis essays are so helpful for the one I’m going through now, age 37, kids and high income (thus no one is immune). It’s been so painful but your thoughts make me feel less alone.
I can't imagine someone that could actually stand being in other people's dreams like the main character. There's just too much personal horror that everyone carries. Desires that would make someone seem like a monster but that are perfectly normal and are kept in check by that they are never made into action. You would need special training to even start attempting and even then it seems that something like an impartial AI might be better.
Even if it wasn't something like dangerous desires, even just the nonsensical horror of dreams would have to wear on someone living them so often. Seeing a man be almost mauled by a group sharing this face is pretty horrific

@@ProfessorViral Oh, I have been writing Star Trek fanfiction about Captain Pike and Vina living on Talos IV. They need illusions to live a normal life. Kinda like living in a dream. However, Captain Pike is trying to balance that out with his desire to have some sense of reality and improve reality for the dying Talosians.
Its oddly fitting to like the progress made to help patiends that cant communicate, to communicate, by researchers progress , which in the hands of a madman that tortures apes, would be really bad. Not to mention capitalism, after all a lot can only have acess by being willing labrats, even with the actual ethical researchers. Dunny my uncle was with some tested technology in als and a pump there. Its still good. Just we need to worry about capitalism and acess too. That diversity of valid dreamsa (as long as ther isnt harm) speech is beautiful, the spice must flow, balanced. yay thats gonna be a good chrismas essay, genuinly.
If I hadn't covered it a lot before, it would have been really interesting to dive more into the misuse of the DC Mini as a topic, both the positive misuse with Paprika, but also how the same action with different intent is negative, with the chairman. I particularly love your video "Existing only to exist" - it really resonated with me and I've watched it many times. Another one of my favorites is "How to fight God" ( even though I'm not an atheist). I'm not doing well in life. This might be the lowest point I've ever been in. I would love to end it, but I guess I'm not brave enough, not yet at least. I wanted to bring up something different. Have you heard of the anime "Golden Kamuy"? It's a great show that I think you would enjoy covering. The 4th season recently ended a few months back, and I believe there's one more season left. It's very underrated, and I don't understand why more people don't talk about it. Though, to be fair, I have seen some TH-camrs mention it, but not in the same way you cover anime.
