I love Brighton Beach and visit every time I am in New York. For my next vacation I am going to stay there and buy my food from the Tashkent Supermarket! I'm sorry that some businesses had to close due to COVID, but maybe they'll come back.
I grew up in Coney island/Brighton beach. Luna park was actually in Coney island but not far from Brighton. Lots of great movies shot down there. Brighton beach Memoirs in particular. I still remember watching them film some scenes. Along with The Lords of Flatbush with Henry Winkler pre Fonzie and Sylvester Stallone pre Rocky. Both Tv show and movie being inspired by the characters they played in Lords of Flatbush. Also Requiem for a Dream, The Warriors, and many other movies I'm forgetting the names of at the moment. It still sucks not seeing Mrs Stahls knishes at the end of Brighton across from where the train makes that turn towards Sheepshead bay. Best knishes I've ever had. And I'd bet anything some guys out here remember the old whore house on Brighton 5th street that was there for years. $12.50 all in. A teenagers paradise...though thinking about it now also makes me sad for the Latin women there who spoke no English and very likely were trafficked there. You don't think about those things when you're 16/17 going there on a rainy day but looking back puts things into perspective. It was fun and games at the time but really messed up and awful when it comes down to it!
In the USA, people are safe from violence because there are laws and a justice system that punish criminals. The Constitution also protects people's basic rights and freedoms. Ukraine is grateful for America's support of Ukraine against Russian aggression and terrorism
Brighton beach has some good history
