37 states have ski resorts. Almost 500 total. Over 35 in California and over 50 in New York State. Lake Tahoe / Squaw Valley (home of the 1960 Winter Olympics) could easily make this list. Not to take anything away from this top 10.
@@eatible6126 the voice sounds like the "world according to briggs" guy, who is a trumptard. According to him, all major cities are overrun with crime and homeless. ((roll eyes))
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We drive a few hours to Heavenly at Lake Tahoe. It's a stunning ski resort we a magnificent view of the massive lake and its surrounding mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The slopes are great too. Some years, we get so much snow that we can ski well into the month of May. A few years ago, a few of the ski resorts were still open on July 4th.
Michigan is known as the winter wonderland , we have hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails thousands of lakes to ice fish , ski resorts , ski jumps incredible sledding and not to mention the largest Christmas store in the world in Frankenmuth we have all the seasons and fun to be had year round
I’ve been skiing at Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Winter Park and Steamboat Springs in Colorado. Whitefish (Big Mountain) Montana. Park City and Vail and Aspen in the summer. Not in the USA but Whistler in British Columbia Canada is awesome. So many great destinations.
You can buy a vacation home in Vail, Colorado, if you have several million dollars you're not using. It's a cross between a ski town and Beverly Hills. There are art galleries, jewelry stores, and a small airport for private jets. A one-day lift ticket cost $199 when I was last there in 2018. We bought ours months in advance at a big discount, cooked our own meals rather than eating in restaurants, and the one-week vacation still cost nearly $2000 per person.
There are famous ski resorts in California such as Mammoth Mountain, Lake Tahoe and Big Bear. In West Virginia: Snowshoe Mountain, Canaan Valley and Timberline. There are ski resorts in New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia. This video was listing the top 10 but there are many more.
I'm not even sure I agree with the "top 10". The combined ski resorts around Lake Tahoe plus the casino scene in Stateline deserve to make the list IMHO (compared to anything in Michigan or Tennessee surely--they seem to just be wanting to spread out the geography). I even think Vermont and New Hampshire wouldn't make the list except for their proximity to the huge population centers of the East coast giving them a popularity they might not otherwise have. The simple fact is that no mountain ski terrain east of the Mississippi compares to what's in the west.
California has some of the best skiing in the world. I live about an hour from a bunch of resorts. Not sure why they are not on this list. Last couple of years have been stellar for snow fall in the mountains.
Having grown up in New England but currently living in the west, no east coast resort is even remotely close to the gems in Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.
I used to ski quite a bit when I was younger. I have been to Aspen, Park City and Breckenridge. I actually had a choice, go to work in Breckenridge or get laid-off, I chose Breckenridge. The town of Breckenridge is pretty cool, and the ski area is nice, but the locals go to A-basin to ski. Some things I miss are Rasta Pasta, the Breck Brewery and Downstairs at Eric's. Aspen has phenomenal powder, and double black diamond runs thru the trees, but everything is expensive. Surprised they didn't mention any of the resorts in California, like Heavenly Valley.
Little known and less important fact offered here: Boise was mispronounced as BOY-zee; the correct way is BOY-see. Although these are the 10 best, I don't know that they're necessarily in order. The mtns. in MT--Gros Ventre = GROW vahnt, rather than the expected Gross Venture. I visited Taos a few years ago during a vacation out West, and it turned out to be quite an interesting place, in that there's a citywide building motif there. All of the city is made to look and feel like adobe. I went there to sample a cuisine called Southwestern, which is hot Mexican. It was really spicy, but so good. Stowe, Vermont is the town where the actual family from The Sound of Music settled after WW2. When he got to Boyne Mtn. MI, he said it's in the Southern Peninsula, which is the first time I've ever heard it called anything but the Lower Peninsula. At 11:22 is something called snow sculpture, which is a competition activity held all across the country in snowy states, including where I live in northern IL, where people come from all over to participate, some even from overseas. Depending upon your age, you may either know from personal memory, or more likely, from history, that in 2002, Salt Lake City, not far from Park City, hosted the Winter Olympics. At 12:36 is a snippet of someone dogsledding, which I had the opportunity to do twice, the first time in MN, near the Canadian border, and #2 in Ontario, Canada, where we followed our guide for 3 days on his trapline, and stayed 2 nights at his trapper cabin on the shore of a frozen lake. You're definitely not wrong about CA, since right above LA in the mtns., there's a hill called Mt. Baldy, with a ski setup. Thus, it's entirely possible to swim in the ocean in the AM, then drive up into the mtns. in the aft. for some skiing the rest of the day.
This is a list of top 10 Ski Resorts for someone who is not a skier. Some of these are up there on a skier's list as well, but I would never put Cranmore as the number one. I'm sure it's changed a lot since I was there in the early 80's but still there are so many better options. Can't imagine any of the eastern resorts could be in the top 5 as the snow is not as good as out West. Taos is a good one for this list, as is Jackson Hole, Park City, and Sun Valley. But notably missing Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain in California. For anyone that is a skier and has their pick of where to go it wouldn't be Boyne Mt, Cranmore, or the Smoky Mountains. NH has many better ski areas than Cranmore. Stowe, VT is legit though and deserves to be on this list. A better thought out list would be at th-cam.com/video/NcouO-8E8bE/w-d-xo.html
This report is a big pile of crap. The Tennessee, Michigan, Vermont and New Hampshire ski areas are not destination shi trips. Most skiers haven't heard of these. They didn't mention Lake Placid or Squaw Valley (both Olympic sites), Steamboat Springs in Colorado, Killington in Vermont, Big Sky in Montana.
We're lucky to have good skiing in most parts of the country. Sun Valley is the oldest, original destination ski resort. Idaho is remote anyway. Here in my Idaho city, we are 30 minutes from skiing at our local ski mountain. All the states surrounding us have excellent winter playgrounds, too.
You can fit a lot of variety in 48 states that have a combined area almost as large as and more geographically diverse than all of Europe. Broccoli on pizza will depend on how you like roasted broccoli. Give it a try.
More of a summer thing when it isn’t dangerously cold, but with Taos Ski Valley, you can go on a day hike from the Valley up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in the state, 13,166 feet.
3:40 There is a documentary on youtube titled "The Engineering Genius Of The Largest Ski Lift Ever - Peak To Peak - Engineering Documentary" that shows what goes into building a gondola that crosses a giant valley up at whistler.
The fact that none of California or Nevada's winter resorts made this list is a shame, they are better than any of the resorts mentioned here. Sierra cement is the best to ski or snowboard on. Everywhere else is too powdery and shallow.
Utah resident yo! Sundance Film Festival is held for the aspiring and experiences filmmakers to show their films before it hits theaters. There's also alcoholic drinks and good hospitality in Park City, Utah. They also have an Alpine Slide too.
While many of these resorts are top of the list, I can very definitely tell that the creator of this video is being paid to advertise specific resorts. There are glorious resorts that would throw every single one of the resorts on this list, out of the running. Only 1 of the top skiing experiences is even listed.
These places are pretty, and the views would be great, but, personally, I'd prefer to enjoy them strictly from a nice warm setting. Someplace cozy. Don't really like getting cold, wet or sun or windburned anymore. Although a lot of fun, I suppose, skiing can be a bit too thrilling, especially on overcrowded slopes. It can be kind of rough on your knees, lower legs and wrists, too, especially if someone runs into you. 😉 But, as the video points out, there are plenty of other things to do.
And as usual, not a single mention of anything from Pennsylvania. The Pocono Mountains can give you a lot of these things, and most likely for cheaper than the "name" resorts.
Why would you think America doesn’t have winter resorts? We have a lot of winter weather! We are a huge rich country, so of course they’re going to be resorts.
Why's it "mad" to think California has ski resorts? There are 3 north-south oriented mountain ranges in North America: The Appalachians, the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada/Cascades which are California's mountains and they have the highest peak in the "lower 48" US states, Mt. Whitney. Also, past winter Olympics have been held in California at Squaw Valley.
@@shawnanderson6313probably because most non Americans think California is a warm state based on Southern California which is likely what most are familiar with.
@@sukie584 The guy has been watching videos on the US for last 6 years and he even say in the video that he surprised California isn’t in the list of winter resort. So no he doesn’t think it is cold because he is aware.
Colorado is at the epicenter of the Continental Divide of the United States and of course it’s perfect for skiing, but I was surprised to learn of a few others like in New Mexico, Michigan, and Dollywood.
This vlog is misleading. And the 1 to 10 ranking is way off. The United States has many, many more world class ski areas not mentioned in this video. Thie guy presents himself as the authority for ski areas and resorts, and it is quite clear that he doesn't know what he is talking about. Sorry.
I’ve been to most of these and this list is ridiculous. Cranmore won’t make top 10 in New Hampshire, never mind the country. Breckenridge and Jackson Hole are criminally underrated, and the clips of Aspen and Breckenridge included footage from Vail. Vail should be in the top 3 but it’s not even mentioned despite using footage from there? Also I was just as surprised as you when they mentioned Michigan! Nice reaction video but the source video was made by a moron 😂

I've skied on all 3 ski resorts in Arizona. (Snow Bowl, Sunrise and Mount Lemon) Yes, we have snow on the mountains in the desert!
People usually don't believe or think of that.... Next door in Utah.
Storm chasing at Snow Bowl is amazing. Great desert snow just super inconsistent.
Lake Tahoe in Northern Cali .. Two hrs from my house has many ski resorts . My Nephew currently works on the slopes at one .
Heavenly has the best view of the lake
