RC Britains Kane Silage Trailer Part 1 - 3D Printed Motor Mounts and Tipping Mechanism

  • This week I start a new series converting a Britains Kane Silage Trailer into a radio controlled silage trailer. This will probably be a fairly short series as progress is being made very quickly compared to previous builds. That is mostly down to me using the 3D printer for the first time which means I'm able to manufacture parts faster and more accurately, as well as redesign very quickly if there is a mistake. In this video I mock up a prototype motor mount for the N20 motor with a screw drive and get it tipping the trailer however there are still some adjustments to be made.

    Hi Marcus, I've never taken one apart so I don't know for sure but I think what the siku models have is a motor with a potentiometer so two wires should be for the motor and two for the potentiometer i.e. no servo control board in the "servo". You might be able to test this if you measure the resistance between the wires and find two pairs. Then put 3 volts across two of the wires for a split second and if you have the right wires then the motor should move slightly. Don't hold the 3 volts on the motor as it probably has a hard stop and you'll damage it. Once you know which wires go where you can open up your servo throw away the useless pcb and wire the servo motor and servo potentiometer to the siku board. You should check that the potentiometer in the servo is the same as the one in the siku "servo" or you might have trouble getting it to move correctly. Also the servo motor you use might require more power than the original siku motor so you run the risk of damaging your control board.

    That’s brilliant, I’d buy that. Could you do I video about repairing old Britain models? I have an old Valmet Forestry with roof mount crane, the axle is skewed and the guard frame has a crack, how do I fix it?

    How do you put on an servo with tre cables to an siku control john deere 6920s since the john deere have servo with four cables?😀

    Hi good work!!! You are a genius of this tractor art. Maybe is possible to have the stl file of mechanism??

      rcracingboat rcracingboat Hi yes I'll upload the stl file for the mechanism to my website when I have is working properly, at the minute it doesn't close or raise properly and the motor isn't properly secured. What's in the video is like the first prototype.

    Do you have any recommendations for the free 3D modeling programs that will be compatible with Slic3r?

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adam Duim I haven't tried it myself so I don't know what the limitations are but I was told Autodesk 123D is a decent free cad software. I would guess it's probably like a stripped down version of autodesk inventor.

      Thank you.
      I downloaded and watched about an hr of tutorials. Having never used any kind of 3D software, I'm now able to generate any thing I need.

    hey where do you buy the parts to make the mechanism

      Hi I 3D printed the parts and bought the motor and other small pieces on ebay.

    I am almost ready to order the same printer. it would be AWESOME if you could post the file for the lifting arm mechanism to thingiverse

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RcTractor Wizard Well I'm thinking to have the final working stl files as a benefit for being a patron on patreon but I'll make the crucial dimensions available to everyone to make their own designs easily anyway. This still needs some more work and a few more prototypes to perfect I'd say as it hits the frame in places preventing it from lowering and raising fully. I have lots of different ideas for parts to convert tractors, parts for excavators like a quick hitch, ripping tooth, an adapter for rc tractors to stop the trailers getting caught in the lifting arms and limiting the turning circle.

    Would you sell the mechanical arm you used to raise the trailer with, I don't have a 3d Printer

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loughfield Well it's still very rough but when I get the design finished I might. The last test I did it seemed a bit weak so you'd don't want it yet.

    • @loughfield7752
      @loughfield7752 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      RC Tractor Guy ok thanks, did you ever try tipping the kane trailer you converted with a Siku factory RC tractor or just RC tractors you designed.

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loughfield I don't have any Siku Control models so I've only made them to work with mine. The easiest way to make the trailer for a Siku control model would be to just add a radio module to the trailer and make a controller to control it.

    is there a cheap tractor and one of the kane trailors for sale??

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +oisin ohagan I think Siku tractors are the cheapest you're going to get now and they aren't really cheap either. As for the kane trailers, I haven't seen an RC versions so you'd have to make it yourself. You can get a joskin tipping trailer for the Siku tractors.

    Would you be able to make a selfpropelled turf hoper

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Morris If you could find a scale model of one it shouldn't be too hard for you to convert as it should have more space to hide the electronics than the tractor models.

    In my opinion this is your best video because i like what do you do and i dont have 3d printer but i want it(and i have one question-its very useful? this 3d printer_)

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emīls Purviņš Yes it's very useful, this is my first time properly using it and I found it great to be able to quickly redesign parts when they didn't work. It took a bit of work to get it set up printing this good, a little trial and error mostly and it takes a long time to print things but it's still faster and more accurate than trying to do it by hand I think.

    • @RCTractorGuy
      @RCTractorGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      De ModelBouwers Do you mean add working hydraulics? I haven't seen hydraulics small enough for this scale of model anywhere, do you have a suggestion?

      De ModelBouwers Ah okay, I'd like to be able to add proper hydraulics. It would be so much smoother and have a lot more power.
