If the puzzle has a mini computer inside, yes, it would be pretty easy to program. But by the looks of it, the creator is a total electricity fanatic. It's probably "programmed" through basic circuitry alone, which is not easy at all.
There is probably a microcontroller in there, which is the equivalent of a mini computer. Still, the ignorance of how long creative work takes, goes to show how detached streamers are from real work. I'm not saying that the box was worth the $1000, but acting like it is easy to make was disrespectful.
It's just simply confirmation patterns, not hard to do with just nand gates. However an atmega388 is cheaper than the minimal nand gates that you would need so I wouldn't "programmed" by basic circuitry
I don't think it's unreasonable for this to cost $1000. Assuming the developer values their own time at ~$75/hr, takes 10 hours to assemble it, spends some on materials, and then also reimburses themselves for the development/prototyping costs they had with the first one, that's pretty understandable.
