He has been the leafs best player in the playoffs for the last two years and arguably the best player night in and night out this year. I would wait until the end of the season to strike a deal, as you don't have a crystal ball to see what happens to the rest of the roster.
I think that’s a steep comparison. -Matthew Boldy signed for $7m over 8yrs. Although Knies has tremendous upside, but he has only one full year under his belt as a projection. Right now, $5.5m over 8yrs max. We are 12 games into the season. I don’t think he’s keeping a 40 goal pace up. Doubtful even 30+. The offer would obviously go up if he shows some performance consistency this year…and does break out.
Marner won’t go to the net and is scared of heavy hockey, and Knies at some point with surpass him. He plays the game the right way. Consistent strong play. Marner tends to disappear in the playoffs.
Unless we see Knies continue at this pace for most of the season, Boldy would be the absolute ceiling for Knies' deal. Boldy had 68 points in 89 games before signing 7 x 7 Knies has 45 points in 97 games currently... Boldy definitely a step above Knies in terms of production. I'd say 6.5 x 8 is fair.
The Canucks last year threw around the name Greenway from Buffalo, with the issues that Dakota Joshua is dealing with i would double down on doing something anything to get Greenway to Vancouver
I was telling Leafs fans they should sign him to 8x6m before the season started and they valled me nuts. Its worth overpaying to end up with a bargain once the player hits his prime. Maybe Knies bet on himself but it would have been hard to turn down that money.
Now, thankfully Dubas isn't here so it won't be 8 years times 10.5 mil. I would lock him up at 6 years times 5.25 mil AAV. I think that would be a fair deal for both sides.
He’s not worth more than $50 million, it’s somewhere between 5 and 6 a year at most. Respectfully Boldy has a way better resume than knies to this point of his career, while also playing with way more offensively talented players
Massive value until playoffs. Knies looks like a guy who can be a playoff performer. Look at his stature and skill set for a big man. Pay him now

I agree. Sign Knies to a 8 x $7 million, get it done.

Brodie? I noticed he's gone from this years roster... though really quietly. Is he retired?
Deserves term? He's been good for 2 months

Pls sign knies 5 x 5 mil asap

6 mil would be fair

Anywhere else in any other NHL city he's probably a $4-5M/year player. Toronto tax makes him a minimum $7M/year
Stop whining if your every player is greedy. There should be some proud and extra to play in Toronto.
15/8
If you have to say bye bye to Marner to keep Knies, do it
Yeah say bye bye to one of the leafs best players defensively and offensively, sounds like a good plan lol
You don't have to. You could easily sign both
I can see 4 years/10m
Give him marners money
Backing up the Brinks truck has brought 0 championships. Guys like Toews & Kane won championships first and then got paid.
Button is delusional. Compared to similar contracts in the NHL this leafs core has failed at every level. 11 Mil for RFA years on Marner was a joke.
The failures have been in the playoffs.
In terms of regular season production Marner has been elite.
8x12
Eff marner, sign Tavares and knies
Who the hell cares OMG!! Toronto media STFU!
8 x 8

gotta go like hyman 5-7M for 8
8mill / 8 year
Remember when people dogged dubas for drafting down to get Knies, now look at Knies
Was that really Dubas or was that the scouting
14 million/year. Best player on the team.
