I met Erk one time in my senior year (1988) while walking through campus. I reached my hand out and said, "Hey coach Russell, how ya doin'?" He replied, "Hi, coach Erk Russell, how are you doing?" Here's a man who EVERYBODY knows, and yet he introduced himself by name. He then asked how my studies were going, what was I majoring in, etc. We probably talked all of one minute, but it was the coolest one minute of my college life! I met the legend. One thing that struck me.....I knew he was a "stocky" dude, but man he was taller than I thought!! LOL
