To get this out of the way, you definitely have to listen to this with headphones. There are so many sounds like wood creaking throughout the song that I had no clue took place without them.
In many of his songs there's background noises that are very subtle like that- The coin flipping, the roller coaster railing, the wood creaking- And in The Moss for example you can hear rain- In Birthday suit you can hear a countdown- awesome details, thx for pointing that out
clowncuts bro he’s been on tour in my state the tickets were actually pretty cheap they were like 17$ and he told us on some of his songs how he makes them like for pelicans we he used a pelican picking out an piece of coral then he improvised which random sounds he’s still on tour check if he’s in one of your sates he is a really cool person
When the beat "drops" (At 1:15) it changes the mood of the whole song from a dream state, to straight up being lost in a haunted carnival at midnight and running away from the abandoned clowns and freak show stars. It puts me in such a fantastical, imaginative state. What an amazing song. Makes me want to animate some kind of story to it.
I share the same intrest as you, but I'll first write a story first then try to animate. For this one this is the very beginning about how you enter the world of cosmo's songs ( what I like to call, "the cosmos") or something.
@@AN-ou6qu You're right, you can learn the basics of art in both forms, but it is recommendable to use traditional media first. I have the perfect idea for an animation to this song. Imagine the old cartoon style, hand drawn, black and white, dramatic, etc. It begins with long shots of a town being run by factories. Long shots of that. Cue the line of factory workers trudging in on beat, getting to their stations, working the machines, each being like the other. We see our protagonist, his neck craning around as he’s looking at the others around him. His mind starts to wander, and we see scenes mentioned in the song shown in stark color contrast and newer, bolder animation style. When the coin rolls, he’s caught chasing a loose screw from a machine. He gets in trouble and around 1:15 the hunt starts for him. Scenes of the big bads from lower angles show, signs banning creativity, workers being labored, and protag running and hiding. Towards 4:00 he reaches the edge of the town and starts to see what effect the Factories have on the people, animals, and plants. He reaches a hill and climbs it up. He’s looking out over the dreary and grey town. Around 5:00 he glances back at the forest that is colored ever so slightly. He runs in, as he’s running, he’s starting to change colors and style and jumping through different animation styles.
as a music/audiophile... i have never heard anything like this before. i feel like i'm experiencing music for the first time. it's so baffling yet pleasant.
I know, right? It's almost frustrating, I've been listening to this album on repeat because I've realized this is my genre, but whatever this genre is, there's nothing else out there like this to switch to. Google says its 'Folktronica, Indie, Electronica' but that doesn't really come close. The heavy orchestral inclusion seems like chamber/baroque/orchestral folk or pop, but it doesn't really fit there either. My brain keeps drawing the most random parallels in the search to pinpoint a connection...90's folk, joanna newsom, devendra banhart, Gogol Bordello, 'Treeful of Starling' album by hawksley workman, Peter and the Wolf, The Decemberists, Moonrise Kingdom soundtrack, Thomas the Tank Engine theme, Monsters and Men, that scene from Fantasia with the nutcracker suite and the goldfish. It's so bizarre how it feels, to the senses, like an obvious genre that definitely should exist and have more representation, but where the hell is it? Maybe we just stumbled across the "Wes Anderson" of music.
This song is three dimensional and mechanical. His voice is center and the background female is in the back right corner. The flutes/obies are off to the left. The mechanical shifting comes from in front of it all. One instrument is on the right. It's sound plays diagnally. It plays for the flute. The sound is very distant. And then it fades out.
Why do all of these songs have such a Halloween vibe? So far most of these songs remind me of Over the Garden Wall in the way that they both have an eerie sense of familiarity to it.

To me, this song is about living beings, and humans. The title, 'linger longer', I feel refers to our want for many species to remain as they are, and ultimately, ourselves too. I think the lyrics start off with the early earth, where there is not much to support living things and mainly a lot of sun. However, life comes wobbling out of the ocean. I feel the 'winter' here represents when life was unable to form, at least on land. The 'summer' would be the golden age of speciation,, or something haha. The next verse is quite straight forward, describing multiple ways beings evolved and then stating life has a passion for living- it's gonna go on whether you like it or not, adapting to the circumstances, whatever they may be. The third verse would be where it turns its focus to humans, who just so happened to evolve minds. The big philosophical questions are to most but a distant thought, but you can sit on them and think about them till its all you think off (think about it now linger longer could also refer to that, pressing you to linger a little longer on these questions). 'What is a drop in the ocean' is one of those questions, the one about us ultimately not meaning much in the grand scheme of things. I'm rather unsure of the next line, but it may be us studying past species, which are few (due to specific fossilisation requirements) and long behind. The next line could then be us humans realising that in the end all these past species are just us, it's course not decided by itself, but by the heavenly motion. In the last verse, ringing the bell is either a religious practice or just searching for meaning in general. The sound is made crystaline, like how holy sites are often prettied up for their god. It rings out for 'the cause of all notions', the creator of all belief, that is, 'God'. It should be noted here that humans are the ones ringing the bell, their cluttered minds have led them to search for beliefs and such. I interpret the mentioning of 'April' and 'Autumn' to be where we are now. If winter is the dark age where creatures couldn't even survive on land and summer the golden age of all life, then spring and autumn are the awkward unsure place we find ourselves in. While we as a species are thriving like never before, we have taken down other creatures in achieving that. Leaving everything unbroken is the rule we so often set for ourselves, but break when it comes to that regard, willingly or not. leastthatswhatithink
This song hits me like a fading nostalgia, almost a sense of mourning paired with a softly perplexing air of jovial contentment. I can feel my mind and emotions bending into each other like my eyesight when reality begins to meld into something more whimsical.
The first part (until 1:16) reminds me on Philip Glass, especially his opera 'akhnaten'. I listened to your whole album now and i love how every song got it's own little universe -a bit childish and playful. Like these tiny books, that parents read to their children, when going to bed :) -.
This is such a beautiful song - whimsical and pure fantasy. I can’t stop listening to it. It’s delightful, beautiful, even with a touch of melancholy. It feels like it’s from another time. Only a creative musical genius could create something so unique.
The sunlight seeps scarcely through the canopy overhead, lighting your path through the overgrown forest. Crows watch you walk by from their perches but you don’t dare return their glares. You can sense the souls in the trees, the moss, every inch of life in this labyrinth of thicket seems to have a soul. It’s almost like you can see the bushes looking back as you climb through them.
I remember listening to Cosmo back in 2017, when his audience was fairly smal. Here I am in 2022 listening to this masterpeice album yet again, so delighted that he is finally getting the recognision he desirves!
Did anyone else listening with headphones hear that scratching that happened occasionally in the first half? It actually FELT like something was scratching my brain.
I remember when I found your songs a couple years ago they moved me in a way no song had, it just felt so different from anything I’d ever heard I wished I could have stayed staring at the night sky listening to all of your songs forever.
This reminds me of when I was ten, I got lost in the woods at night and my flashlight died. I had no clue what to do so I sat in an open spot and gazed at the full moon for an hour, with the cold sharp airbrushing against me, I didn't cry. I sat and felt scared yet comforted at the same time. As I sat there I thought if I would get home. My mind completely wandered off, Until I got brought back to reality.

i still remember when i listened to this two years or so ago and i can still so extremely remember and reimagine every thought and idea i had when hearing this. im drawing with this song in the background right now and honestly im having a great time. to me, this song is perfect.
Listening to this piece takes me back to the satisfying feeling i had when I first enjoyed Pink Floyd- the beautiful complex emotions and calming beautiful vocals. So many elements coming together. Love it!!!
When the flute starts at 0:49 and at the end it so much reminds me of being a kid in elementary school and watching la vita é bella or listening to its soundtrack while dping spring cleaning. I love this so much (and yea they made us watch movies that were totally not ment for us)
I know a lot of people are saying that this gives like a haunted circus vibe, but imagine this: There’s a gran ball. Everything is shades of browns, red, golds, and burgundys. All the guest are dressed up in Victorian era clothes, all shades of browns and maroons. Gears are intricately sewn into all of their suits and dresses. Everyone is wearing masks. They dance like clockwork to the beat while the band plays the mechanical melody. A steam punk masquerade.
This song has helped me and still is helping me go through a particular moment in my life where I need to be reminded that we are all part of a cycle of life and change and all we can do about it is to listen to the melody of nature and let ourselves wander and wonder.
I love the whole Sheldrake fam, they're an absolutely brilliant bunch! I also love Edward Gorey & reading his books while listening to Cosmo elevates both artists to a whole new universe! They both share a slightly skewed Victorian/Edwardian kind of style. A bit macabre, eerie & even dark, but it's all tongue-in-cheek with a wide streak of humour running throughout. I'm absolutely certain that E.G. would've found Cosmo Sheldrake's music interesting, if not enthralling! I'd love to see someone do an animated pen and ink homage to Gorey set to any of C.S.'s tunes! (The Solar Waltz would be especially great!) Hey, there's a music video idea for you, Cosmo, lol! 😉 For those unfamiliar with Gorey, I strongly suggest that you check out his books like, "The Iron Tonic", "The Willowdale Handcar", "The Water Flowers", "The Object Lesson", "The Hapless Child" & "The West Wing", just to name a few of my personal favourites.👍😸

No head banging
Just people ballroom dancing with each other
My kind of party
My mind completely wandered off, Until I got brought back to reality.
i listen to an extremely wide range of different music, old and new, acoustic, electric and digital, but this ought to be one of the sweetest things in a long time - i will look out for more now - thank you so much for sharing!
love and greetings from germany
This somehow made me relaxed and i got a pleasant feeling in my brain, idk how to describe it
I love this song very much, i can see why is was one of my favorites :)
I also went into the perfect mix between asleep and awake while imagining a silly little scenario and closing my eyes
I think Cosmo's music is enchanting or something
Thank you so much for your work, I'll always be a big fan
Your songs are super nice, they helps me bring things back together when i feel like i'm apart.
Cosmo Sheldrake, listening to this piece feels like being danced with, by someone I love.
Thank you for allowing me to experience that through your work.
Cheers 🩵✌️
I really, really like this song.
That switch to carnivalesque music always gives me chills
If you don’t sleep for 24 hours the fish will look like they are moving
idk lol I’m ok lol thank you for asking
I can say
That's true
u good fam?
I think you just tricked my brain into seeing it to 0.o
Me kinda seeing the fish lowkey shake
I imagine this as a gathering of all animals, Alive, extinct, and yet to exist, coming together to dance and discuss the meanings of life
I write to this all the time. Love it.
I listen to this album when I'm really stressed and I have been known to fall asleep to it because it's so relaxing... It's one of my favorite albums ever 💖
All of your music is gorgeous, I could listen to it forever! They have a sense of being written by some sort of woodland fae, it's beautiful ^^
This music is so three dimensional and interesting and genius I honestly don’t think there’s enough out there like it these days. Absolutely fantastic.
This song fuels my classical vibes and I LOVE IT!
i still remember when i listened to this two years or so ago and i can still so extremely remember and reimagine every thought and idea i had when hearing this. im drawing with this song in the background right now and honestly im having a great time. to me, this song is perfect.
Listening to this piece takes me back to the satisfying feeling i had when I first enjoyed Pink Floyd- the beautiful complex emotions and calming beautiful vocals. So many elements coming together. Love it!!!
Recently discovered Cosmo Sheldrake and I'm trying not to binge listen. It's like trying to eat one macadamia nut.
I LOVE YOU AND YOUR VOICE AND YOUR MUSIC AND YOUR BEING AND EXISTANCE
;-;
Whoa
I love cosmo sheldrake so much aaaa these songs make me feel like im floating
When the flute starts at 0:49 and at the end it so much reminds me of being a kid in elementary school and watching la vita é bella or listening to its soundtrack while dping spring cleaning. I love this so much (and yea they made us watch movies that were totally not ment for us)
I know a lot of people are saying that this gives like a haunted circus vibe, but imagine this:
There’s a gran ball.
One of my favourites from your new album! Keep up the amazing work!!
Your songs are just so great I lack the words to properly express my love for them so I'll sit here silently and enjoy this album
I hate it when I find the most underrated songs that people do not know so I can't even sing with them.
This song appearing on TH-cam and then me non-stop listening to Cosmo's music for the rest of the day. This stuff is amazing!!!
I just listened to this, The Moss, and The Fly at the same time
It's beautiful, I do recommend
This song has helped me and still is helping me go through a particular moment in my life where I need to be reminded that we are all part of a cycle of life and change and all we can do about it is to listen to the melody of nature and let ourselves wander and wonder.
this makes me feel like I'm
1) in a movie, exploring new (mechanical) things
2) watching an orchestra
Absolutely love it!!! Your music always inspires me! I cant wait to see what comes next!!
I love when music can feel like another world
Love the song, love the album! Your concert... oh gosh it was so amazing. I would do everything in the world to see you live again
Hits me like a melancholy cocktail shot through with beams of light. Beatuiful and thoughtful.
The time up until 1:15 sounded like the horse riding scenes in those movies. They are either fantasy, or western.
This song restores my sanity
This song amazed me when I was just going on walks in Washington I looked at the sign that tells you the name of an area and it said "Linger Longer" as its name!! Honestly awesome sheldrake.
I feel like this song could play over a montage of the end of the world
Great music. Sounds like a waltz. Very fresh and new. I love it. It reminds me of the first time i listened to a Devotchka song.
So youtube did something AMAZING by recommending this artist for me! I just was curious and decided to give it a listen, and now I'm obsessed so h ECK YEAH
Now i know how Cosmo make a Birthday Suit with a different instrument. And i like his vibes. Feels like I came back to the 90s.
Everything this man does is perfect
Thank u a lot for everything!!!!!! For sharing ur gift with us!!!!!! Thank u .....u made me love everything around me....u made me love my life again!!!! Thank u
The drums, the bass, the vocals, all key elements of this song
I love how all these comments are just so nice and like yes. Also I love how the song resonates with the insides. It just makes you feel good inside. It moves you on the inside and lets your guard down and just be calm and just be.
I like this music so much i wish it could...linger longer...
I can never get enough of Cosmo Sheldrake. This music is so amazing.
This album is one of a kind hands down. It's amazing and helps the mind flow and grow into a dreamy state of creativity that's just so unique and memorizing and hypnotic .
You are absolutely incredible and never forget that
This song gives me thinking about your shatter memories as you boat down a river on a starry night vibes.
This album is something I've been waiting for not even knowing I needed it.
I WASNT EXPECTING A SONG TO FINALLY MAKE ME FEEL SOMETHING AND THIS WAS THE ONE! THANK YOU
perfect song to listen to when it storms or when it rains!
I am lingering, underneath the moss and under the roots of trees. I will stay, now and forever. For I will always Linger Longer.

So, like, I never really go outside and explore, but like-
You put this whole playlist of "The Much Much How How and I"
I'm going to explore every forest-
Uh, for me to do that though, I need the song to come with me-

YES!
HAHA-
Cosmo , your music takes me to a place of happiness in my imagination. So happy I cry sometimes because I have to come back to reality.
YAS NEW SONG
Such lovely sounds! Thank you from Canada
Your music is something that I can listen to anytime, most of the time I cant listen to music unless drawing but when listening to your music I could be doing literally anything while listening and not be uncomfortable and feel like I must be drawing like how most music makes me feel
This song is so invocative of imagery with its well done music and lyrics I managed to write a whole short story based of the lyrics and song.
What... What even is this music? I can't describe it; all I know is that I LOVE it, and I suddenly am looking forward to studying poetry.
2:47 makes my brain feel tingly
you have no idea how many times this song (along with others of his) has/have pulled me back from panic attacks
