- 1987-Jim and Tammy Faye Baker Scandal which involved Jessica Hahn and "hush money". Falwell talks about growing up with servants, an agnostic and alchoholic father. He discusses the Moral Majority, the religious right, George Bush, Ronald Reagan, segregation, The Assemblies of God, Old Time Gospel Hour and his Thomas Road Baptist Church.
Jerry Falwell was an American Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and conservative activist.[2] He was the founding pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, a megachurch in Lynchburg, Virginia. He founded Lynchburg Christian Academy (now Liberty Christian Academy) in 1967 and Liberty University in 1971 and co-founded the Moral Majority in 1979. He died at age 73 on May 15, 2007.

I think he was wrong for telling such personal matters about Jim's affair and sexuality as well as reading Tammy's request. Farwell was so wrong in coming out publicly the way he did.

Why would a minister, such as Mr. Falwell, feel the need to disclose conversations meant to be confidential? Not only did he give the date when he meet Jim Bakker he had to mention Tammy Bakker was being treated for addiction.

I was there at PTL during all of this...before and after. My grandparents would go often and take me with them and boy did I pay attention. So this whole story intrigues me to this day. I saw some horrible things tho.....like gospel legend Vestal Goodman being spoken to and handled horribly after the takeover. So those were Jerry's people. She was denied access into the studio taping. It was wild. Thanks for posting.

Since this interview we all pretty much know what happened. Heritage USA was closed and fell into ruins. Ole Jerry here has since pasted away along with Tammy Faye. Ole Jimmy boi went to prison for 5 yes. But within the last few years part of the old Heritage USA has been purchased and revitalized by another religious organization ( steer clear of that one too). But ironically the big winner in all this has been Jimmy boi. He's been back with a new wifey and ministry still conning ppl out their money with his doomsday propaganda. With some folks (not all) they haven't. For example, Jim Bakker has gone back to his criminal ways; he got into trouble with his phoney baloney "cure" for COVID19. Then there's Junior Falwell with the pool boy and his fitness trainer. And don't get me started with that new millennium rev. Ike (i.e. Creflo Dollar), Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen... YET: folks are still stupid enough to give these troublemaking charlatans their money so they can live high off the 🐖?! In my personal opinion, since there's others refuse now to kow tow to such sanctimonious 🐗💩 the best thing is to REVOKE the tax exempt status the IRS treat them like for profit entities.

I trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personel Saviour while watching The Old Time Gospel Hour and DR Jerry Falwell back in 1981.
Just like many did the same watching the Bakker's and PTL. No matter who delivers the Gospel Message it can fall on good and bad soil. However, the Word of God will never return void.

Falwell asked for Jim and Tammy to put all of their needs on a piece of paper so the board of PTL could work out a deal, as soon as they wrote it down, he ran to the cameras.
Another wrong by Falwell! We had our Assistant Pastor step down at our church for adultery. He came forward to address the church. The senior pastor did not tell the church his sin; it wasn't his sin to tell. It was not Falwell's place to tell all about Jim's sins.
As the late Christopher Hitchens said of Falwell, "Give him an enema and you could bury him in a matchbox."

Tammy Faye Baker tells a different story about Jerry Falwell and Pat Robinson. She states that Jerry came to them and took advantage of Jim doing his time of despair and try to take over their ministry. What many do not know is that the 700 club was Jim Bakers idea Jim was the original host of the 700 club. Pat Robison at the time was struggling in the ratings and Jim and Tammy came on board and the rating went up and Pat threw them out and took their ideas and made it his own.
The late Tammy Faye and the late Jerry Falwell have been judged bt our heavenly Father. The other relious persons will be judged by Him too all in due time.

Actually, Falwell and Oral Roberts both wanted the satellite network and both bid on it. But the ministry's court-appointed trustee stopped both deals. It ended up being sold to Morris Cerullo of The Inspiration Network (INSP) in 1989 during the bankrupt sale. I also think Falwell had his eye on the Satellite from the beginning.

Jerry Falwell had no intention of turning PTL over to the Assemblies of God denomination, who would have gladly taken it. The former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God he mentioned was Rev. Thomas Zimmerman.

Here we are in 2023. Just surfing youtube and caught this old video from the past. Lessons learned from all these fallen so-called "leaders". I'm including the recent Ravi Zacharias too. They seem to get so caught up in the ministry with success and power that they lose sight of right and wrong, boundaries, and rules. They are no different from the draw of temptation and sin. May these examples be a guide to all pastors and church leaders to avoid this behavior and just do the right thing under God.
Best interview I have seen with this nutcase. The interviewer wasted no time trying to figure what he is about. I wish this lady was on CNN, she could show them how it,s done.
GOD CUT THIS MINISTRY DOWN!!! Absolutely "every interview" (after its fall) by every person deeply involved shows this to be true (Jim, Tammy, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell). It became too much for everyone. It required an agenda & focus that "was not truly about Jesus Christ" while using that name. Jim Baker said it began simply trying to serve God but as excitement grew, it became "How to be more exciting. And more and more." GOD ALLOWED OR CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN!

However, I do agree with him that the Bakker's should have made their relationships with God and their children a priority instead of trying to keep their leadership positions at PTL. I don't know what to say after some of these comments on Falwell. He sent me a large bible I can read I really enjoyed this bible. My mouth fell open when I heard him telling things about PTL.
Falwell was a price of work and just as greedy and slimy as the Bakkers. His son equally so which has proved our publicly. These people who line their pockets of the faith of people who watch them on TV is disgusting. No question the Bakkers needed to fall. No question either that Falwell took great joy in sticking it to someone who had held greater success than he had.
This is excellent. Mr. Falwell is honest, true to his values, at peace with his decisions, and still shows kindness in caring, yet holds firm to his conviction, driven by his desire to hold fast to the Word of Truth.
My family and I we're involved with the ministry! What Jerry did was right! People around the world, let alone the PTL community needed to know the truth! Jerry had issues but there we're other issues with depts such as the choir! Half came because of PTL and others because God sent us down! Jam m didn't learn anything in jail and is doing the same thing now with another ministry

It would have been nice if you had the chance to interview Tammy Faye and had her side of the story. Mr.Falwell, died before Tammy Faye and she found forgiveness in heart before she died. To me still find it strange that Mr.Falwell and Tammy Faye died in the same year with in few months part. I hope one day you can interview people who run TBN and Daystar, because I would like to get their side of the story. Please know that I do not watch or support TBN or Daystar. But, I do still believe in Jesus and in God, but I would never allow my self to become wealthy on God's word.

I never liked Jerry Falwell. I felt that he was self righteous.
I respect Falwell as I would any other pastor. However, he and many others were like self righteous sharks to devour another. The Bible talks of trying to restore a brother. David sinned and was forgiven. Peter denied Christ, was forgiven. Had Judas not hung himself he could have been forgiven. Jim Baker was never given that chance. As ugly as the 80s were in the church (Swaggart, Baker, Roberts), what Jerry did was just as ugly. Sad. To the outside world they had to think, how can the church love me, a sinner, if they can't even love and forgive each other.

100 Memorable Moments in history would include Falwell's descent down the waterpark slide. It symbolized how everything went downwards (downhill) from there.
End-result: The 'Prosperity Gospel' was a dismal failure.
This is more of a shoot interview on PTL as well as a burial of the Jim and Tammy. Falwell got himself over in this interview.
How sad to hear someone who calls themselves a pastor who's job is to SAVE PEOPLE afraid to speak truth about being born again. Jesus NEVER told anyone to go PRIVATELY and ask Him for forgiveness of sins. When He spoke to Nicodemus in John 2 about BEING BORN AGAIN. He didn't tell him to do it privately. I fully agree with RD Brown, this so-called "Reverend" Falwell did much worse than Jim ever did (after seeing The Eyes of Tammy Faye, AWESOME) it seems to me Jim was in 100% involved with all the crooked illegal dealings within the PTL ministry yet, Tammy seemed all about saving souls, loving God and loving all people (God bless her sweet spirit)... When the interviewer asks him why did he take on the PTL ministry after Jim's arrest, I'll say that's obvious, the real reason he did it was because he was jealous of Jim & Tammy's international success and was so eager to bring them down and gain full control of the PTL for himself!!!

Jim and Tammy were original leaders in satellite Christain TV. I watched it. Tammy was so awesome and loved the Lord. Heritage was a vision and the evil one bought it down. I wish someone could continue it as it's still beautiful. They had large crowds of people who loved them. 🙏🙏they were betrayed. Very sad!

I don't know which one is telling the truth, but according to Tammy's book, Jerry Falwell made a list of offers that he was willing to give Jim and Tammy. Jerry sent the messenger with the list to Jim and Tammy and asked them to write what they would accept on their own stationary. Jim wrote at the bottom that he and Tammy made no demands of Heritage USA. While I am sure there was enough guilt from all parties to go around, I think Jerry Falwell wanted the satellite system, with was state of the art at that time. I think he was willing to bankrupt Heritage USA to get it. There were also reports that he moved some of the higher priced furniture to his college, Liberty University, to be used there.

In Genesis 1:26, God's intention was, "Let Us make man in Our image and in Our likeness". To do this, after He had formed the man from the dust of the earth, God blew part of Himself, (the Holy Spirit) , into the man's nostrils, Gen 2:7. The Holy Spirit within, gave the man a spiritual affinity with God and he could EXPERIENCE God's presence and UNDERSTAND God's thoughts. Then God put the man in the garden of Eden and told him he could eat fruit from any tree in the garden, but MUST NOT eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or he would DIE. There was a serpent in the tree and he persuaded the woman with Adam, to eat the forbidden fruit. When nothing happened, she gave some to her husband. When he ate, something terrible happened to them. The presence of the Holy Spirit left them and they realized they were naked. Without the Holy Spirit, (the original sin) the pair had no affinity with God, and they were forced to leave God's presence. Before they left the garden, God took 2 animals and made garments of skin to cover their nakedness. To obtain the skins, 2 animals had to be sacrificed and Rev 13:8(b) says Jesus was the "Lamb slain from the creation of the world". It is the blood of the Lamb that washes us clean. In Eternity, time stops. Jesus was crucified once for ALL PEOPLE. Every time anyone sins, to Jesus, it is as if he is being whipped, blasphemed, spat upon, each time we sin, it is as if the nails, stones, and other sharp objects embedded in the 9 cords of the whip scrape the skin and flesh of his body all over again. The Bible says He was despised and rejected. Just as we see in some of these remarks. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief because of what sin does to us in this lifetime, but even more so, because some people choose to disregard what he has done for us, and deliberately condemn themselves to an eternity without the God who loves them so much, that He took their sins in his body and accepted their punishment and death so they could go free!
