Too many girls and women have been slaves to men since the beginning of time! It’s not all about the color of skin but the hearts of men toward those that they are able to control if they choose to…and too many feel entitled to do so. Many times it goes unnoticed is the big problem and that’s a huge and unfair problem for females. This really needs to be addressed as well.

Morality changes with time, and religious morality should not be the rule of law because we are constantly expanding as humans. Religious morality restricts our freedom to grow and improve as humans, and as Americans. And what religion is correct? Each sect thinks it is the only correct belief. Excellent discussion!

I agree with Churchill's assessment that "Americans can be relied upon to do the right thing...after they have exhausted all other possible alternatives." The wheels turn slowly and we, as a culture are ill prepared for this reality. But Democracy will prevail. It has to.

Michael, thanks for having Heather Cox Richardson speak with your followers. I have been following you, Mr. Steele, for a number of years. I have been trying to understand your choice to be a Republican. As your geo/ethnic-contemporary (born in D.C, African heritage, highly educated), I am still baffled with your allegiance to the GOP (pre-MAGA). It seems to me that the idealization of Abraham Lincoln and his position on Democracy has yet to be materialized in real life via the GOP. Not that the Democratic Party is flawless, but as I recall, for all of my voting life, the policies that I would have alighned myself with came from the Dems, not the GOP. It seems like "Lincoln Republicans" are quixotic in their efforts to make a party ideology something that has long left the station. I know that this comment will probably fall on deaf ears, so indulge me the moment of response.

Yes, Michael, this is a crux. Thank you.
For the fun; I was raised on Lincoln Circle, in Belmont, mass. from 1955. My father and grandfather ran a famous law firm, and hid the details from me. I was casually friends with Joseph Welch, who would drive my father home, from work, cause he distrusted the bus and subway, from Boston.
My father, had no time, to dally, and had his 3 rd heart attack ,at age 56. Mere perseverance, will not suffice, where dark money is seen on the surface. We grew up challenging the John Burch Society, simply, because of the narrative. My sister, took to B.U. Law school. As the last child, my father did cultivate my musician-ship, poetic art, and skills as a anti-class warrior, both physical and spiritual. He was as well the quietest anti-racist -, lover of jazz music, I have ever found.

Protect your public schools and libraries. Make sure American History is being taught and check which text books are being used as Texas is a major source of biased information. And make sure American Civics or Government is being taught. That members of Congress don’t know what the 3 branches of Government are is outrageous.

South Carolina never taught any history past the revolutionary war when I was in the public schools from 1964 -1978. I guess there weren’t any books written about the Confederate war that the South Carolina Government wanted us to know about. They didn’t lie, but they didn’t tell what happened either.

Right now there are more who believe they are superior to somebody, compared to the number who believe everyone is important. After years of dictatorship the superior people will come to wish they had the same rights they took away from others.

Thank you so much for having this conversation! It's interesting for me to see Heather Cox Richardson's work from a variety of perspectives -- what you emphasize is a bit different, but you're helping with framing we could use to work together in order to save our democracy.

Yes, Mr. Steele, make media about Americans who are benefiting from Biden’s presidency. Please. Soon. Please.

When the Berlin Wall fell (literally the next day), I turned to my mother-in-law (who would be in her 90s if she were still alive) and asked, “Now that the right doesn’t have communists to fear monger with, how will they fund raise and scare up votes?” She didn’t miss a beat, “gay people.”

Lincoln was and is a political and historical touchstone! Truly a giant, not just literally, but figuratively; and for all time.

Infuriating that there was no accountability for the crimes of the Confederate South''s Civil War.😠

Lincoln's genius is something, through a ton more pain & death, have mostly learned from - via the well known saying "first they came for the communists, but i was not a communist so...." -- let us hope we can make good use of that in this movement today. Genius Ms. Richardson, bless your heart! 🧠❤️♥️

Prof Richardson’s insights, and the depth of her knowledge is stunning. Thank you Michael. Great conversation.
Sorry, but Reagan was a big problem, his policies tore the economic center out of the middle class. Part of how we got here. He was also hugged up w evangelical racists.
