Fun Jan Mayen fact! Brendan the Navigator, who thought he found the gates of hell, was actually 1700km North of the actual gates of hell, located in Glasgow Scottland...
So, Jan Mayen is not it's own state. It's a split state with Northern Norway. When you get annexed, re-merges the split states, and it stops tracking that split state and merges all of Northern Norway's buildings and doesn't actually track where each one is. Then, when you release it, *that's* when the game decides what buildings and population are, and it decides based on physical size. Since Jan Mayen is a tiny rock in the ocean, and the rest of Northern Norway is fairly big, it assigns no buildings and a tiny population. Even though literally yesterday, it was one of the most prosperous economies in the world. Oh, yeah, and the devastation you saw later, even though there was not even a physical connection. OH YEAH, AND THE REALLY AWFUL FACT THAT YOU CAN JUST MARCH ONTO AN ISOLATED ISLAND LIKE THE WATER WASN'T EVEN THERE. The split state system is REALLY dumb and pretty bad and needs to be overhauled.
split state system allows for better performance. It's a self-incurred problem of wanting to have a lot of small provinces you can walk over, thus having to optimize buildings and pop systems somehow (putting them all into states rather than tying them directly to provinces). But then Vic 2 also did this for optimization reasons
@@KissatenYoba It causes so so many more problems than in Vic2. It would be so easy just to have small background provinces (the game already does this for colonization and fronts) and assign each building and a percentage of the population to those provinces, but still do the calculations at state-level. The when a state is split it actually makes sense rather than teleporting an entire nation's worth of buildings and people across the sea. And, again, the game should be tracking what is and isn't connected by land. Oh, and the game should be smart enough to apply devastation in a reasonable manner to split states.
@@KissatenYoba And this begs the question then of : why would they need so many provinces if they are used for LITERALLY NOTHING, because even the military system it's just ...... a single battle and the armies take like 6 provinces or something so what's the point of having so many ? It's like "we need a huge number of provinces for the game, but this many provinces destroy the game's performance so we're going to shift every calculation to state instead, but with a really broken system. Now that we have made a ton of concessions that made the game worse off to have our ten quadrillion provinces, we're going to do nothing with them 🙂"

It is day 110 since I asked you to do the challenge with Croatia in VIC 3 but in one of the videos, a good person named Andraip (Thanks for all the help) said it has a few flaws so it's time to correct them. So when you start playing as Croatia you have 15 years to get your independence, after that you cannot ally, get in a defensive pact, and you cannot be under any kind of protection and you must rival these powers as soon as possible: Austria, Russia, Serbia, Montenegro, Ottomans, and all nations from the Italian boot. You also must embargo all those nations and cannot enter their custom union nor can they enter yours. You cannot be in an alliance with any of the top 10 nations, including a defensive pact custom union, or protectorate, but you can trade with them. AI must be put on the default settings in case it isn't. If you ally let's say Portugal, and later on they get into the top 10, you must break the alliance. You also must stay monarchy all the time. Form the Danubian state with Croatia following these rules. (FYI incase I didn't make it more specific, you cannot join anybody's custom union you must always at all times have your own market).
