@@BARSSTUDIO I think Sea Doo makes a really nice machine. They are also quite comfortable and usually, Sea Doo is the first major manufacturer to bring new technology to their products. Yes. The SMC hull is a little heavier and it absorbs the shock a bit more. Makes for a smoother ride. BUT, if you are into racing or riding like a rabid banshee, it does mean you don't "feel" the water as much. It handles just as good but the feedback for the rider is a little muted.
I would say so. It's a more powerful machine and it has many more features. But, of course, it all depends on what you are looking for too. A 2014 is probably paid for and Yamaha's do last. 😁
Great vid. I also have 2 2024 FX SVHO's and was surprised how much of a wet ride you get in rough water compared to my previous 2018 FX SVHO's. the ski is not as stable as the 2018, but the 2024 is def more powerful esp in performance mode. After some research I found out the reason for the wet ride is due to the ride plate being angled downward to slow the ski down. I am switching it out with a Riva ride plate, hopefully it will angle the nose up a bit. I appreciate your thoroughness on the screen. Have you experienced the same where you are riding?
Prior to getting this ski, I had a 21 and it was even wetter. They changed the ride plate from 21 to 22 to make it a bit drier and I have seen the difference. I'm not sure how it compares to a 2018 because I have not ridden one. One thing that does help is to trim up a lot.
A few follow up questions for ya lol 1. Did you notice a difference in feel from the old nano hull to the new fiberglass? 2. Have u reached out to the guy who made the chat plotter mounr for the 21 ski? If so, does he have a solution for the new cup holder mount layout? If not what do you have in mind for that setup? 3. (I have a 21 identical to your 21) a friend of mine just got a 23, to me it seemed to turn and maneuver great, but did have a heavier less able to throw it around feel. Also my 21 seems to jump out of the hole a tad quicker. May be due to the lighter hull material feel I not sure. 4. Why did you not go for the cruiser option? I've been thinking of not going the cruiser route on my next ski because the stadium seating isn't sp comfortable when trying to fish off the ski. Sorry for the book, just a few things that popped in my mind watching your video.
@@charlesprice7790 Yes, there is a difference. The fiberglass hull is a little heavier and thicker which translates to a smoother ride. Some riders who race like the NanoExcel better because they can feel the water better. I don't race so I like the smoother ride. I have talked to Loren recently and he does have a solution for the newer Yamaha machines. The newer FX machines are a little heavier. That may explain the holeshot. Now, the 24 model has a performance mode which basically enables launch control. I can see that making a difference. The improved handling is probably due to a different ride plate and improved placement of the sponsons. My '21 ski is actually a Cruiser. I ended up buying a regular seat for it because it allows me to stretch my legs out much better. I'm 6'8" and that is really important. The cruise seat does provide really nice back support though.
Awsome. My friend with the newer one keeps trying to talk me into trading up, but I finally have this one all set up. Lol wh9 knows maybe in the future. I sat on a new kawasaki and really wasn't impressed with where tye lower speakers were located. Could see them being a shin buster.
My trailer is a Comfab galvanized. It works well. There are a lot of trailers out there that could work. The main thing is getting one with the proper weight capacity. You should plan on a capacity of at least 1000 pounds of you have the same ski as mine. The ski is less than 900 lbs but you have to account for fuel and gear.
If you are tall like me, the regular FX seat is definitely better than the Cruiser seat in my opinion. It allows you to sit farther back and stretch your legs.
@@kevinreed2554 Yamaha went back to using SMC on the FX hulls in 2022. They stuck with NanoExcel for the VX models. Not sure if they will eventually move them back to SMC or not.
Seems like you and i are on the same path. I traded my 2020 for the 2024. Did you notice 3 major changes on the ride. Better acceleration (launch), better egding on turns, and the nose rides higher therefore ride is dryer. I would have purchased the limited but i need the seating of the fxsvho due to having long legs. I too noticed you switched from stadium seating to the standard seating on the fxsvho. I bet you find the leg space better than the stadium seating (you look like a tall gentleman).
Yes, there is a difference in the ride. Very noticeable. I agree! The regular seat makes a bit difference for me. I'm 6'8"! I know you are enjoying your new machine! Congrats!
How does the fxshvo give more leg room than the limited? Leg space is crucial for the jet ski I purchase and notice from the big 3 that many time the new speakers eat up some foot well space. I’m 6’2’ or so but have long legs. I need to get this part correct and the correct hull for the smoothest ride during a little chop. Thanks much for you input
@@CrochetNewsNetwork The difference is legroom is between the Regular FX and the Cruiser. The FX has a flatter seat so you can sit a bit further back and stretch your legs.
You and I are cut from the same cloth! I've asked you about PWC advice before and I'm happy to report I finally got my 2017 Yamaha EX Sport waverunner. The plan is to keep it for a while then upgrade to a VX then maybe one day a FX. Can I ask a pro such as yourself a couple basic questions? How soon after getting out of the saltwater should you flush it with SaltaWay? ( I have a trip to Charleston planned!) This next question has a ton of variables, but what would you say is your average speed in the Gulf/ocean? I'm assuming around 25-35 due to the waves. Thanks for your continued advice. Justin from NC
@@Justin-hz8bh Hey Justin. Congrats on the purchase. I usually try to flush it as soon as I take it out of salt water. If I don't have Salt-Away right away, I'll use fresh water and hit it with Salt-Away later. You are correct on our speeds when riding the ocean. It's all dictated by the water conditions. 25 to 35 is usually in the range. Thanks for checking out my channel.
Good to see you posting again! This is for sure the FX I would go with. The stadium seating on the other FX models are pretty awkward looking . What was your reasoning for choosing this over the cruiser or limited?
I chose the regular FX because I am a pretty tall guy. The Cruiser seat offers great back support but the regular FX seat allows me to sit farther back and stretch my legs. I really did not see myself with a Limited because I just wouldn't use the extra toys that it comes with. Plus, how can you pass up the bad ass black on black color?
Thinking of buying my 1st wave runner and I'm looking at 2023 gt1800r svho. I hope i would be happy with that and not over spend at same time, i want something to have fun with, has some power and i can whip around
Frank, can you do a video tutorial about the navigation system on the 2024 FX models? I bought a 2024 FX SVHO (haven’t taken delivery yet) and I would really like to know the capabilities and options specific to the navigation screen in the connext system but there are no other videos online that explain use of the navigation or ability of the navigation in the FX models. Thank you and looking forward to it!
Congratulations Frank on the new JetSki sorry I’m late to the show. I have a question if you don’t mind, after using infotainment center with Garmin GPS do you prefer this over the boondocks ram mount set up? Reason I ask recently purchased the Garmin UHD 273 SV for my 2024 FXHO. I particularly did not care for how the Garmin entertainment center would not allow you to flip back-and-forth while underway. I decided on the boondocks cupholder ram out. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
Big Frank! In February I bought the exact same machine. Im in Cape Cod so I haven’t had the opportunity to get on the water with it yet. I’m curious why you didn’t opt for the Cruiser model again and went with the “Standard” FX SVHO? Also, how does the GPS Navigation Connext system compare to your previous plotter? Is it reliable enough for long trips such as Florida to Bimini? Great videos and keep them coming! Thank you.
Hey there. Congrats on your new purchase!! I chose the regular over the Cruiser because of the seat. It's a lot easier to stretch my legs on this one. The GPS works great! It definitely is suitable for major trips. The one on my other ski had some features that I like such as depth and the ability to load routes using your phone but this one will definitely do the job.
After reading the endless comments to this video, I see you may have purchased the FX SVHO for the additional leg room it provides. If there was another answer, I’m all ears but I wanted to add this comment so you don’t have to repeat yourself. I would definitely still like to hear your comments on the navigation system if you wouldn’t mind. Also, I bought the Riva Ride plate for my machine and have not installed it yet. I got it for the change in attitude of the ski leading to a drier ride and better handling. In your opinion, is this an upgrade worth doing or is the factory plate good enough? Have you considered installing a Shoreline fogging kit for easy access to lubricating the internal components of the engine?
@@Joelp201 you are correct on my reason for purchasing the FX SVHO over the Cruiser. I'm 6'8" and legroom is important! As far as the GPS is concerned, it works well. The mapping is good and it is accurate. 👍🏾
Thanks. The cupholders on the '24 model are different so the mount that I got from Loren will remain on the '21. Plus the new one has built in GPS so I don't really have to mount one on it anyway
@@CrochetNewsNetwork Yamaha has a new 1.9 litre engine for 2024. So far it is only offered in the naturally aspirated version. The expectation is that they eventually will also offer a supercharged version. I did a video on it a few months ago.
Great review Frank, you most likely got the last year of the 1.8L SVHO. I hear Yamaha to be making changes next year with the supercharged skis with the new 1.9L engine. I know they released the 1.9L in the HO models this year. Would you ever get the 1.9L in the future, beings that the 1.8L has been around for some time and are dialed in? Thanks. Enjoy the new ski.
Thanks. I think you are correct in that Yamaha will eventually use the 1.9 for the SVHO as well. It's actually pretty exciting to see what kind of power they will get out of it. I definitely would eventually go to one. Just don't know when that will be since I just got this one.
Thanks for subscribing. I think you can always say that a NA machine will be more reliable. It does not mean the supercharged machine is not reliable though. A supercharged machine has more components and it does push out more HP per liter than a NA machine does. By definition, it will require more maintenance. I would not have chosen a supercharged machine if I thought I would have problems with it. I have not regretted it at all .
I think a Kawi is a great ski. I chose Yamaha because the FX is a bit larger and more stable and I'm a pretty big guy. My personal opinion is that it also edges out the Kawi as far as reliability as well. That being said, I would definitely not try to talk anyone out of getting a Kawi if that is what they want
You should have waited and got the 2025 FX SVHO with the 1.9 liter. I hear through some contacts it will push the 300hp mark. better take off and smoother engine than the 1.8. I'm looking to purchase the 2024 Yamaha FX HO cruiser with the 1.9. Top speed on it is right at 64 mph only 3 mph slower than the SVHO. Hopefully the 1.9 will be as reliable as the 1.8. 🙏⛵⚓

AWESOME video sir. You JP water world and Kevin Shaw are my go to experts. Man you are maybe changing my mind from a Kawasaki Ultra 310 LX to your ski. I do to a couple of dealers next week to purchase. And by the way I am THRILLED for you on the new ski. I have a few questions. I’m older than you but 6’2" 245lbs and need comfort and it seems your Yammy has that. 1) I love the ergonomics of controls with one exception and wonder if it’s a small nuisance. The screen control on right side under throttle seems a little awkward if you are cruising at 50 mph and want to toggle to several screens. Navigate, fuel , time, speed, etc. It appears to me you have to reach over across your body to access . Would it be more useful if it were located where the music controls so I can throttle with right hand and screen control with left hand as I (for me) would assume I need to be controlling the screen more than music/?/ 2) where is that river named Kissimi? 3) I see that you drive distances with trailing. What trailer , wheels etc do I need as I want to ski places you ski and I live below central Georgia. 4) is lake Lanier a pretty decent place for me to try out new ski?? Thanks so much you are awesome.
Thanks! I see what you mean about using the controls but I really have not found myself trying to use them when underway at higher speeds. The only time I have was to silence the low fuel alarm and since it is just a quick push of a button, it has not been an issue. The Kissimmee River is in central Florida. It is a great ride. I have an upcoming video on the ride we did. Look out for it. There are a lot of good trailers that are suitable for long distance towing. I would just make sure that it is capable of handling the particular ski that you buy and I would also stay away from trailers with smaller wheels. They have to spin a lot faster at highway speeds. Lake Lanier is a great lake. It is a pretty good size and lots of places to discover. It can get a bit crowded on summer weekends because it is popular but I love it. Good luck with whatever you purchase.
@@mrbmp09 Technically, most PWC's do not use pure fiberglass these days. Sea Doo uses plastic, Kawasaki used a fiberglass reinforced plastic and some Yamahas are Nano-Excell etc. The point was that Yamaha has gone away from the Nano Excel hulls for the FX and gone back to a fiberglass composite.

@@richardjackson1745 SeaDoo makes a nice machine and they are known to be very comfortable. For me, I chose the Yamaha because of better reliability and efficiency. Of course, how you ride makes a difference too. I am happy enough with the SVHO and I am not looking to try to squeeze out another 5 mph of top speed. While the new 325 is no faster than the SVHO as a stock machine, if you are one of those guys that plans on tuning and modding your ski to make it go as fast as possible, it seems that Sea Doo has done some of the work for you with the new engine design.
So did you trade in your old ski ? I'll be picking up my 2024 SVHO Limited this weekend.
I still have the old ski for now. I probably need to sell it because I can only ride one at a time! 🤣
A few follow up questions for ya lol
Great questions
What kind of TRAILER are you using to haul it?? I just bought one an need a good trailer like yours!
Looking to buy the FX SVHO. Curious which seat you prefer being taller, the cruiser or sport seat.
If you are tall like me, the regular FX seat is definitely better than the Cruiser seat in my opinion. It allows you to sit farther back and stretch your legs.
Have they changed the nano hull
My 2021 hull has started to deteriorate .
@@kevinreed2554 Yamaha went back to using SMC on the FX hulls in 2022. They stuck with NanoExcel for the VX models. Not sure if they will eventually move them back to SMC or not.

Hoping Yamaha steps up and covers it , still under warranty

what mount were you using with the x360 camera?
I'm actually using a GoPro Max camera with a RAM mount and 10 inch extension.
Finally got to take out for a ride! Yay! Both large AND fast. Is there any feature/function you would add/change? Have fun and be safe!
So far, it seems to have everything I want. Who knows, I may come up with something that I want to add. 😂

Great video. You could do one showing how to use the GPS more.
Someone else had mentioned that as well. I'm thinking about doing one on the GPS.
Thinking of buying my 1st wave runner and I'm looking at 2023 gt1800r svho. I hope i would be happy with that and not over spend at same time, i want something to have fun with, has some power and i can whip around
@@Locococo000-j2d The SVHO definitely has power. I don't think you would be disappointed with that one.
That's a pretty good idea. Once I learn it a little more myself, I'll see if I can do that.
Is this the same as a FX Cruiser SVHO?
@@305dadecounty305 Yes. The only difference is the seat.

Congrats, are you going to put Loren's set up back on there?
Thanks. The cupholders on the '24 model are different so the mount that I got from Loren will remain on the '21. Plus the new one has built in GPS so I don't really have to mount one on it anyway
Beautiful ski, have you had a chance to ride a ski with the new 1.9?
Not yet but I have a friend that has one and I am hoping to ride it soon.
What is a 1.9? I have the ability to purchase a new 2024 ski in a couple of weeks.
@@CrochetNewsNetwork Yamaha has a new 1.9 litre engine for 2024. So far it is only offered in the naturally aspirated version. The expectation is that they eventually will also offer a supercharged version. I did a video on it a few months ago.
Frank, love the new ski. I have a ‘22 FX Cruiser limited, love it. Quick question, any plans for a Bahamas trip?
I would like to do it again sometime in the next 2 to 3 years. I know it won't be this year but maybe 2025 or 2026
Great review Frank, you most likely got the last year of the 1.8L SVHO.
What range do you get on a full tank on average riding
@@joshraleigh101 if I'm riding at average speed, I can get around 90 miles. If I'm sending it, the number drops.
New sub here i am thinking on buying a new ski between this and the natural aspirated engine which one it's more reliable captain... great content 👍
Thanks Captain 👍
Love the ski
Thanks!!
This ski or Kawasaki 310 ultra? Which is better quality and more reliable better built? Thank you
I think a Kawi is a great ski.
I thought about that but the 1.8 is a great engine and I am quite familiar with it. Plus, I gotta admit . . . Sometimes I get impatient! 🤣

Are you going to add the garmin from your old jetski? Im sure thats way better then the factory one?
I'm actually pretty happy with the built in factory GPS. It doesn't have depth like my Garmin does but I think it will work well.
Would it be more useful if it were located where the music controls so I can throttle with right hand and screen control with left hand as I (for me) would assume I need to be controlling the screen more than music/?/
2) where is that river named Kissimi?

Calling the yamahas hull "fiberglass" is quite a stretch.
More like chopped glass fibers, resin and clay filler.
